Soft Oxides
My diploma project explores the process of oxidation as a means to obtain unexpected colours and patterns. By using simple household ingredients (lemon, ammonia, vinegar, salt and coffee), mixed with three different metals (copper, brass and aluminum), I was able to obtain a wide range of surprising effects, tones and patterns. The oxidized metal pieces were later scanned, digitalized and printed to a variety of soft substrates such as textiles, leather and paper. Having been inspired by the experiments I conducted and the spontaneity of my research, this process will allow me to develop further and more varied applications for the effects I have created.
