As part of its mission to showcase contemporary creativity, the
Cabinet cantonal des estampes presents its recently acquired holdings
of editions by the ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne. ECAL’s
publishing activities begin in 1995. Their aim is to involve students
in practical projects and preserve a record of the artists who teach or
are active at the institution.
The initial phase, lasting
until 1999, is concerned mainly with multiples; from 2007 a new project
shifts the focus to lithography and screen printing. The corpus of
some 70 prints produced since that time bears witness to the diversity
of contemporary artistic approaches. John M Armleder, Pierre Charpin,
Constance Guisset, Fabrice Gygi, Alex Hanimann, David Hominal, Helen
Marten, Karim Noureldin, Mai-Thu Perret and Olivier Saudan reveal their
preoccupation with the art of the print and the graphic resources
available within the multiplied image.
