Congratulations to Lena Heinrich ECAL alumna of MAS Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship, for winning the John Ruskin Prize themed Patience in Looking, Truth in Making.

Within her diploma project Taxonomy of a straw bundle in MAS Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship, Lena Heinrich explores possible material options, the work entailed an in depth review of different straw fibres, their value chains and setting within global environmental and social dynamics. By working on experimentation with rye straw and testing techniques within the limits of working with a ‘straw bundle’, she demonstrates the material’s potential in contemporary design, fitting the theme of the 8th John Ruskin Prize Patience in Looking, Truth in Making.

The John Ruskin Prize exhibition, taking place from January 29 to February 21, 2026, at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London, presents selected works from nearly 4,000 submissions from across the globe. The prize reflects the diversity of contemporary artistic approaches and welcomes works in a wide variety of forms, ranging from traditional techniques to digital and time-based media.
