Due to the relatively difficult housing situation in Lausanne and its surroundings, it can take several months to find a studio/apartment or a room. Students are therefore advised to make their arrangements well in advance, and if possible as soon as they are admitted.
The price of renting a studio/apartment or a room usually starts at CHF 600/month. In addition, most agencies and landlords require a deposit of 3 months' rent. A rent of CHF 600/month will cost CHF 2'400 for the first month. However, there are insurance companies such as swisscaution www.swisscaution.com that will take care of the security deposit in exchange for an annual fee.
The ECAL has neither a boarding school nor a campus but can, if possible, help students find accommodation. As this search is relatively difficult in the region, students are advised to make arrangements well in advance. The school cannot guarantee housing for foreign students.

ECAL/Ecole cantonale d'art de Lausanne is located in Renens, to the west of Lausanne. Lausanne is well connected to neighbouring towns thanks to an efficient public transport network.
We encourage our staff members and students to use public transport and to choose sustainable methods of travel. The university is easily accessible thanks to a well-developed public transport network. More information is available on the SBB and TL websites, and the ECAL Campus app.
The university also has a two-storey bicycle rack located at the front of the building. The ECAL car park is reserved for staff and visitors. It has two charging stations for electric cars. Students who have no other choice but to drive to ECAL should use street parking around the university or a car park in Renens.

Travel time: ~ 30 minutes
Park in the Hôtel-de-Ville car park. In the vicinity of the ECAL building, there are also a limited number of parking spaces in the blue zone (1.5 hours) or white zone (3 hours).
The ECAL is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Lifts are available to access all floors.
