Fondé par le galeriste Rinaldo Bianda, le VideoArt Festival Locarno constitue un événement pionnier en Europe dans la présentation et la théorisation de l’art vidéo.
Founded by the art dealer Rinaldo Bianda, the VideoArt Festival Locarno (1980-2001) was a pioneer platform for the presentation of the video art in Europe. Its series of colloquium and round tables organised by theorist and museum director René Berger made it a central platform for the theoretical exploration of the impact of video and, more broadly, of technology, on perception, as well as of the emergence of ‘technoculture’ and the reorganisation of knowledge. Concluding the research project supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and based at ECAL, this colloquium seeks to revisit the VideoArt Festival and critically address its history and its role in championing and shaping video and new media art in Europe, through discussions and presentations with its protagonists as well as by experts in the field.
