ECAL's Cinema department welcomes filmmaker Jessica Hausner for a lecture moderated by Paolo Moretti, head of the Bachelor & Master Cinéma program.


Jessica Hausner is an Austrian director, screenwriter and producer. She studied film at the Vienna Film Academy, where she made her first short films: Flora (1996), which won a prize at the Locarno Film Festival, and Inter-View (1999). Her first feature film, Lovely Rita (2000), won her international acclaim after being nominated in the Un Certain Regard selection at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2009, his film Lourdes was selected for the Venice Film Festival and won an acting prize thanks to the performance of Sylvie Testud. In 2014, she returned to Cannes with Amour fou in the Un certain regard selection, then rejoined the Festival's Official Selection with Little Joe in 2019 (Best Actress Prize awarded to the film's lead actress, Emily Beecham), and Club Zero in 2023. Co-founder of production company Coop99, she has produced internationally successful films such as Maren Ade's Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated Toni Erdmann (2016), and Valeska Grisebach's Western (2017), selected at the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2024, Jessica Hausner was named president of the jury at the 77th Locarno Film Festival.
