Yuji Wang – 1.0.0.1 Days

by Yuji Wang

1.0.0.1 Days is a CG animation that revolves around the realm of data manipulation, delving into the inexorable rise of artificial intelligence in the era of big data. The video aims to speculate on the consequences of humanity’s increasing reliance on and trust in artificial intelligence, pondering the possibility of data manipulation and subsequent transformation into mere marionettes of information and electronic captives. From reality to virtual reality, is it possible to establish data as a new form of religion? As the narrative unfolds, a cyborg butterfly draws nearer to the humans confined to a glasshouse, with its tenderness, its curiosity, its ambition…

Automated Photography - Fall 2022 - MAP2

with Marco De Mutiis

The course focuses on the relationship between photography and play, and rethinks the role of the photographer as player. Students learned about notions of gamification of the image as well as image play as a form of artistic intervention, questioning systems of value creation and image economies. During the semester, students looked at contemporary and more historical artworks, as well as vernacular positions, engaging with the way artists and photographers submit or subvert rules, conform to or rebel against image systems, and ultimately ‘win’ or ‘lose’ the game. The course also introduced practical tools, learning the foundations of creative programming and how to (mis)use software and automated imaging systems.

Materialized Photography - Fall 2022 - MAP2

with Felicity Hammond

In this module, students explored the potential for the photographic image to simultaneously be a backdrop, object, and prop. Students maked images both for the purpose of being reimaged and for their sculptural possibilities, ending in a work that investigates the potential for an endless cycle of images and objects. Crucially, students considered the staging of the work, and the conceptual and physical site for which it is intended.

VR Workshop

with Milo Keller, Robin Bervini

Virtual Reality introduction workshop tutored by Milo Keller with the technical assistance of Florian Amoser and Robin Bervini. During this 5 days introduction, students learned to use Unreal Engine 4 to prototype and test their scenes in real-time. Working in pairs, each of them started to develop a level of a global VR experience that will be presented at the Biennale dell'immagine 2021 in Chiasso.
