Museum für Gestaltung Zürich

From December 9, 2022 to March 26, 2023, Bachelor Industrial Design students will take part in the exhibition Willy Guhl - Thinking with Your Hands at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich, which invites the pulbic to rediscover the creations of the famous Swiss designer.

A true icon of Swiss design, Willy Guhl and his teaching methods have left their mark on generations of designers. The exhibition Willy Guhl - Thinking with your hands offers a rediscovery of his global creation through a practice-oriented approach.

Students in Willy Guhl's class regularly designed toys to be sold at the school's bazaar. Puzzles, figurines or games of skill were made in the school's wood workshops.

The future designers thus followed a process that went from concept to design, including the realization and packaging of the product. This approach is also fundamental to Bachelor Industrial Design program at ECAL.

In collaboration with the museum and under the direction of the designer Adrien Rovero, the students in their second semester developed wooden games that encourage to think with the hands and to physically experience Guhl's aesthetic thinking.
