ECAL Lecture - Christian Marclay
08.03.2023, 18:00
IKEA Auditorium, ECAL

Invited by ECAL Bachelor Photography, the Californian visual artist Christian Marclay will lead a conference on Wednesday March 8, 2023, moderated by Nathalie Herschdorfer, Director of Photo Elysée.

Born in 1955 in California, Christian Marclay spent his youth in Switzerland and studied in Geneva at the Ecole supérieure d'art visuel, then moved to Boston where he continued his training at the Massachusetts College of Art.

A visual artist, but also a composer and musician, Marclay creates polymorphous works that navigate between acoustic performances, videos, audiovisual installations, photographs and collages.

In 2009, he received the Meret Oppenheim Award for lifetime achievement. In 2011, he won the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the Venice Biennale with The Clock, a twenty-four hour video work in which the artist juxtaposes thousands of excerpts of clock shots taken from the cinema and reports on the passage of time.

He has exhibited at the Kunsthaus Aarau, the MAMCO in Geneva, the Paula Cooper Gallery and the Whitney Museum in New York, and more recently at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Moderation by Nathalie Herschdorfer, Director of Photo Elysée.
