ECAL X GOOGLE – A Message From Tomorrow

ECAL X GOOGLE – A Message From Tomorrow,21–25.04.2026,Spazio Orso 16, Milan As part of the Milan Design Week 2026, ECAL and Google present the exhibition A Message From Tomorrow, featuring the projects of Master Product Design students. The Industrial Design team at Google (Google ID) initiated a collaboration with ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne to develop a concept for a mobile-focused product inspired by a daily ritual. ECAL s Master Product Design students were invited to envision innovative hardware engaging with contemporary habits. Through compelling storytelling, these conceptual projects consider the human dimension of mobile technology: how it shapes everyday gestures and how our relationships with devices might evolve in the future. This collaboration reflects ECAL s forward-looking approach to design, combining experimentation, critical thinking, and a strong receptivity to emerging technologies.

Masterclass ECAL – Joe Dante Event
Masterclass ECAL – Joe Dante

Masterclass ECAL – Joe Dante,14.04.2026, 18:00,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL In collaboration with the Cinémathèque suisse, the ECAL Cinema Department organises a masterclass by director Joe Dante, a leading figure in 1980 s fantasy cinema. Joe Dante, born in 1946, is a major American filmmaker trained at Roger Corman s New World Pictures. He made a name for himself with Piranha (1978), a film that blends satire, fantasy, and a tribute to B-movies. He achieved international success with Gremlins (1984), produced by Steven Spielberg, which has become a classic of fantasy cinema. His extensive filmography includes The Howling (1981), Explorers (1985), Innerspace (1987), and Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003), revealing a childlike imagination that remains critical of American society. With his blend of cinematic references and affection for outsiders, Joe Dante is a director capable of entertaining while questioning the world. From March 21 to April 29, the Cinémathèque suisse is presenting a retrospective dedicated to Joe Dante at the Capitole cinema in Lausanne. The director will be in attendance on April 15 for a special evening featuring a screening of Gremlins. ECAl at Watches and Wonders 2026 Event
ECAl at Watches and Wonders 2026

ECAl at Watches and Wonders 2026,14–20.04.2026,Palexpo, Geneva At the exhibition Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, ECAL presents two original installations that invite visitors to explore the concept of time. Created by 18 students from the Master in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship under the guidance of the Lausanne-based studio Panter&Tourron — designers and teachers at ECAL — these projects offer visitors a range of experiences exploring the concept of Time. Presented as both functional and narrative installations, these creations are designed to accompany and punctuate the visitor s experience of the fair. Among the developed proposals, two installations have been selected for their ability to combine conceptual creativity, formal quality and interaction with the public. They will be presented from April 14 to 20, 2026 at Palexpo, Geneva. The Dial by & Located at the main entrance to the exhibition, The Dial serves as a welcoming and social space, designed to act both as a landmark and a place to pause. Organised around a central pillar, the installation comprises twelve modules — eight seats and four consoles — suggesting the structure of a clock dial. Through a play on proportions, details and mirrored surfaces, the ensemble transposes the codes of horology onto the scale of the space. The Dial offers an experience that is both functional and contemplative, designed to accommodate various activities: waiting, working, observing. Engraved quotations punctuate the surfaces and celebrate the passing of time, whilst blending into the rhythm of the fair. Balade Mécanique by Chiara Corno & Balade Mécanique is a mural that offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the art of paper cutting, an emblematic practice of Switzerland s visual heritage recalling Alpine traditions. In seven sequences, the installation invites visitors to venture into a setting that celebrates nature and watchmaking. Evoking the passage of time, the narrative begins with watch movement components that metamorphose into organic forms: aquatic creatures, insects, and then water lilies resting on the surface of the water.

ECAL Light House Project
ECAL Light House

ECAL Light House During a week of collaborative work, first-year students in the Visual Communication department at ECAL were given the ambitious task of creating a complete audiovisual experience, designing a light and sound architecture based solely on five original musical compositions. Using a central totem-like screen installation and projections on the surrounding walls, enhanced with lasers, they created a visual environment, broadcast in real time, which was presented as a performance to the public at the end of the week. The aim was to construct a universe capable of fully utilizing the space and the various stage elements, inviting the audience to move around and experience the live performance in its entirety. Five cross-functional creative groups, each with a different sound base, were supervised by Jean-Vincent Simonet and Léonard Guyot to produce images and test them throughout the week on the device, which was developed, set up and operated by a sixth group under the supervision of Florian Pittet, Matthieu Minguet and Achille Masson.

100 Beste Plakate 2025: Two Posters from ECAL selected Congratulations to the ECAL Communication Team, whose posters were selected in the 100 Beste Plakate 2025 competition. The “ECAL Diplomas Exhibition 2025” and the “ECAL Open Day 2025” posters, both designed by Benoît Brun, ECAL graduate and graphic designer for its Communication Team, are part of the 62 posters from Switzerland selected in the 100 Beste Plakate 2025 competition. While the colors and stripes of the “ECAL Diplomas Exhibition 2025” poster echo the architecture of ECAL building, the design of the “ECAL Open Day 2025” poster alludes to a reinterpretation of a well-known proveb, suggesting that “All roads lead to ECAL”. This contest, which singles out 100 posters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland every year, aims to promote the poster as a powerful visual medium and to ensure its continuous reinvention and evolution. The selected works are presented in a travelling exhibition and a yearbook. The visual identity for this 25th edition of the competition, including the book, has been designed by Ira Ivanova and Lou Hillereau from Yukiko Studio. The opening of the inaugural exhibition, as well as the book launch, will take place on June 11, 2026 at the Kulturforum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. ECAL at Art Genève Event
ECAL at Art Genève

ECAL at Art Genève,29.01–01.02.2026,Palexpo, Geneva On the occasion of Art Genève s 2026 edition, 2016 takes the form of an installation conceived by students of the ECAL Master in Visual Arts during a workshop led by artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. Created during a workshop led by artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, the 2016 installation unfolds like a mirrored space, both retrospective and projective, developed from traces and narratives from the ECAL Master Fine Arts. Conceived as the horizontal plane of a liberated time – an ellipse, a documentary fiction, a collective landscape – 2016 questions the relationships between time, images and things, leaving everyone free to define what belongs to an era. Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster lives and works in Paris. A figure on the international art scene, she has participated in the Venice Biennale, dOCUMENTA, and created TH.2058 at Tate Modern. Originally from Ajaccio, Thierry de Peretti is an actor, stage director, and filmmaker. Trained at the Cours Florent, he began his career in theater, directing authors such as Koltès and Fassbinder, and received the Prix Révélation du Syndicat National de la Critique in 2001. In cinema, he is known for notable roles in Those Who Love Me Can Take the Train by Patrice Chéreau and Yves Saint Laurent by Bertrand Bonello, before turning to directing. His career as a filmmaker includes several acclaimed works: Les Apaches (Directors Fortnight 2013), Une vie violente (Critics Week 2017), Enquête sur un scandale d État (San Sebastian Film Festival 2021), and À son image (Directors Fortnight 2024). Often set in Corsica, his films depict the island s social, political, and intimate tensions with a mix of realism and poetic sensibility, confirming his position as an engaged and committed filmmaker. Thierry de Peretti has a distinctive approach to casting and acting, combining professional and non-professional actors to create a collective energy that serves the story. His direction emphasizes authenticity: performers draw on their personal connection to the story and the filmed location, enriching the narrative with a genuine emotional truth. The discussion will be moderated by , Head of ECAL Cinema Department.DATES & SCHEDULE01.12.2025 1:30 pm Free entryVENUELeenaards Auditorium, ECAL

This experience was made possible thanks to its operators, John Reuter and Harriet Browse, who introduced the students to the use of this unique device and the Polaroid Foundation team. Douglas Mandry provided the project s artistic direction and supported the students in their experiments carried out directly with and on the films. The final result was presented as a collective exhibition on ECAL s premises, revealing a particularly rich diversity of approaches and visions.

RE.CHUV+ECAL

RE.CHUV+ECAL,11.11.2025–15.01.2026,ESPACE CHUV Lausanne VU.CH, art in hospitals, is hosting an exhibition based on the RE.CHUV+ECAL project, led by ECAL for CHUV, which proposes a concrete approach to circular design. RE.CHUV+ECAL presents a sustainable design approach based on the reuse of construction materials to create hospital furniture. RE.CHUV+ECAL proposes a concrete approach to circular design, revaluing construction offcuts and waste as resources rich in history, form, and potential use. Under the direction of Lausanne-based designer Anthony Guex, students from ECAL s Bachelor Industrial Design program inventoried and reassessed materials recovered from the renovation of CHUV s outpatient radiology department, then designed furniture and accessories adapted to the specific constraints of the hospital environment. The aesthetic of the pieces engages in a dialogue with traces of the construction site — patinas, marks, and material contrasts — while the design solutions emphasize modularity and simple assemblies. A joint selection by Aubert Architectes, CHUV, and ECAL led to their small-series production in ECAL s workshops. Since the inauguration in November 2025, these objects have reflected a successful collaboration and a form of design that is creative, functional, and responsible.ADDRESSESPACE CHUV – Hall principal Rue du Bugnon 46 LausanneDATESNovember 11 to January 15, 2026 Free entryHEAD OF PROGRAMMESTUDENTS ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·   ·   ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · PARTNERVU.CH

Spira Memoriae is an immersive olfactory experience in virtual reality that invites users to journey through a fragmented sensory world. Original fragrances, created in collaboration with perfumer Tennessee Macdougall, extend the reflection through the language of odours. Beacons of an abstract landscape, they reveal rare materials, sometimes extinct, but still present in our collective memory. Born in 1984 and living between New York and Buenos Aires, Jazmín López is a filmmaker and visual artist who resists labels. Through a formal approach combining objects, places and temporality, she examines the history of political struggles. Recognized on the international stage, she has exhibited at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, the Fondation Pernod Ricard, the San Jose Museum of Art and Art Basel. ECAL × NNORMAL Project
ECAL × NNORMAL

ECAL × NNORMAL In September 2024, the start of the academic year at ECAL / University of Art and Design Lausanne, was highlighted by the beginning of our collaboration with trail equipment manufacturer Nnormal. At the same time, not far from our university, Kilian Jornet, the founder of the brand, gave our teams a taste for exploits by linking 82 peaks in the Alps over 4,000 meters high, shattering all records in the process. In trail running, as in photography, you need passion, discipline and endurance. Our Bachelor Photography students at ECAL are not all great sportsmen and women, but they are driven by the desire to achieve visual exploits. Trained in technical mastery, conceptual development and risk-taking, they spent three years in a field of exploration that allows them to seek out limits and chart their path. It s essential for them to get off the beaten track and find a visual language that sets them apart from the vast quantity of images that overwhelm us. ECAL has a long tradition of collaborating with top-level brands and professionals who, in addition to their own activities, wish to pass on their skills and experience to a passionate young generation looking for guidance in unfamiliar territory. Among them is Régis Tosetti, artistic director of Nnormal, who has a strong link with ECAL, where he trained for a degree in Visual Communication in 2005. Régis kicked off this collaboration with head coach Nicolas Poillot, also an art director. Nicolas forged his raw and elegant style by taking fashion towards the documentary. A guest lecturer at ECAL for several years, he has guided students tirelessly, with pragmatism and rigor, through the mapping of the brand and its visual expression. In a polluted, noisy world, saturated with superimposed stimuli, it is difficult to concentrate, to focus on a clear objective, a goal to look forward to. The opportunity offered by the collaboration between ECAL and Nnormal has encouraged a young generation of photographers to turn to the mountains. Nature is a terrain of escape, communion and adventure for an essential imagination made up of bodies and landscape. The main subject is the mediating element between these two components, the shoes that allow us to go further in this union. But there s much more than shoes in the work of Nicolas and his students: there are values of ecology, dry and wet atmospheres, solar and nocturnal lights, technical and organic textures, muscles and tense faces that achieve deliverance through their exploits. And finally, in trail running as in photography, despite sood technical and mental preparation and systematic study of the forecasts, there are unforeseen circumstances that force us to come up with improvised solutions that reveal new forms of beauty.

EXPOSITION DU PRIX PLATEFORME 10 X ECAL: Gary Sandoz – Reminix,27.09–21.12.2025,Plateforme 10 – Les arcades From 27 September to 21 December 2025, Reminix, the exhibition by Gary Sandoz, winner of the Plateforme 10 × ECAL Prize, can be discovered under the arcades of Plateforme 10. By delegating our life experiences to digital media processed by algorithms, memory is no longer purely human. Reminix explores the emotional dimension and future of our fragmented memories through a device that scans and analyzes photographic slides, acting as an ephemeral backup of a past life. In a spatial contemplation, the 3D materialized image, accompanied by generative narration, reconstructs an alternative past with each activation. This interactive experience reactivates memory in the absence of its author s testimony and creates a bridge between the viewer and the narrative potential released by the image. It questions the fragility, preservation, trust and generation of our memories by machines. The Plateforme 10 Prize is awarded annually to a graduate of ECAL s Bachelor in Media & Interaction Design who has distinguished themselves through a prospective and poetic use of new technologies. EXHIBITION OF THE PRIX IMAGES VEVEY X ECAL: LEA SBLANDANO,24.09.2025–15.02.2026,L Appartement – Espace Images Vevey From 24 September to 21 December 2025, as part of L Appartement – Espace Images Vevey, Lea Sblandano, winner of the Prix Images Vevey x ECAL 2024, presents Neijuan, her Bachelor Photography project. The Images Vevey × ECAL Prize was created in 2021 to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions. Each year, it offers a graduate from ECAL s Bachelor or Master Photography programme a first solo exhibition opportunity. The awarded project is presented as a monographic exhibition by Images Vevey, either during its biennale or in its permanent space. Winner of the Images Vevey × ECAL Prize 2024, presents Neijuan, a project developed during her Bachelor in Photography at ECAL. “Neijuan,” a Mandarin slang word meaning “involution,” refers to a withdrawal into oneself, a symptom of an increasingly fast and competitive society. Through a documentary and collaborative approach, the artist follows a group of people she met online in forums, video games and chat platforms, where new identities emerge outside the norms of the physical world. The exhibition unfolds across three spaces: The Corridor, a threshold between the real and the virtual, combining portraits and urban landscapes. The Living Room, where the Neijuan book mock-up revisits key images of her research, oscillating between avatars, Asian megacities and reflections on the sexualisation of bodies. The Cinema, an immersive installation of nine screens showing videos, webcams and avatars, centred on Kei, a virtual roommate living in Japan. This work blurs the boundaries between real and virtual, questioning connected solitude, fragmented identities and the transformation of intimate spaces.DATES & SCHEDULE24.09–21.12.2025 > Extended until February 15, 2026 2 pm–6 pm Wednesday to Sunday Free entryVENUEL Appartement – Espace Images Vevey Gare CFF de Vevey Hall principal (2e étage)OPENINGWednesday, September 24, 2025, 6 pmWEBSITEimages.chGUIDED TOUROctober 9, November 6, December 4, 2025

ECAL × OFFECCT AT Designer's Saturday

ECAL × OFFECCT AT Designer s Saturday,12–14.09.2025,Oslo ECAL is taking part in Designer s Saturday in Oslo with the project Sound & Vision, created in collaboration with Swedish brand Offecct. As the modern workspace and living environment trend towards open-plan designs, the need for versatile acoustic solutions have regained momentum. Offecct has teamed up with students part of Master Product Design from ECAL, led by course tutor Camille Blin, to reinterpret the acoustic room divider, an essential tool in structuring both our spaces and our ideas. Acoustics have been a steady part of Offecct s portfolio since the early 2000s, and it is time for this category to question its own versatility and its influence on the well-being of our workplaces. These projects do more than divide space: they reinterpret familiar gestures, reveal the poetry of modest materials, and offer sensitive responses to the needs of the contemporary office. Together, they form a landscape of objects that are both technical and adaptable, where every separation becomes an opportunity for expression, comfort, and reinvention of the workplace.VENUEAmbassaden Henrik Ibsens gate 48, via Løkkeveien/Hansteens gtDATES & SCHEDULEFrom 12 to 14 September 2025HEAD OF PROGRAMMEWEBSITEdesignerssaturday.noSTUDENTS, , , , , , , ASSISTANTOPENINGOffecct x ECAL: Research in Design , Head of Master Product Design Saturday at 10:30am Flokk, Drammensveien 145PARTNERSFLOKK DESIGN Marianne Sælid, Vice President, Design Managment Oscar Shu Hao Kwong, Designer, Design Managment Special Thanks To: Christian Lodgaard OFFECCT Magdalena Borowiec, Brand Manager Øystein Austad, Design Manager offecct.flokk.com

By Lamps Made up of paper shades set on steel wire structure, this family of lamps comes in three models: a small, practical table lamp to place beside your bed or on a shelf; a generous floor lamp to light up living room or bedroom; and a pendant lamp for the dining table or to brighten up your living room. By The process the studentsUnder the guidance of Swiss designer David Glättli, students from the Bachelor in Industrial Design at ECAL were invited by micasa to critically reassess the domestic environment and question how everyday objects shape the way we live together. Rather than simply designing new furniture, the brief challenged students to rethink the meaning and presence of objects in the home: how they function, how they communicate character, and how they can introduce lightness, surprise, and emotional value into daily routines. The objective was not “more products,” but more thoughtful ones — pieces that combine clarity of use with charisma and a touch of humor. The resulting collection, HOMEWORKS, brings together 38 objects that reinterpret familiar typologies and domestic rituals. Mirrors double as clocks, planters and wastebaskets adopt unexpected silhouettes, and modular rugs redefine spatial organization. Some proposals subtly reference Swiss cultural codes; others merge functions or question established conventions to create new, intuitive behaviors. More than simple furniture and accessories, these pieces are conceived as everyday companions — expressive presences that animate shared spaces. Functional yet distinctive, they aim to surprise, engage, and inject optimism into the home. The project reflects ECAL s pedagogical approach: connecting experimentation with real-world constraints, and encouraging students to develop original, market-ready proposals that balance innovation, practicality, and aesthetic rigor. Since its creation in 2018, the Prix Dior has supported the unique perspectives of young artists from leading art and photography schools around the world. Following a rigorous selection process, the ten winners are invited to produce a new work based on the theme ‘Face-to-Face . The winners works, including those by Sara De Brito Faustino and Aline Savioz, are presented in a group exhibition at LUMA Arles as part of the Rencontres de la Photographie until 5 October 2025. This exceptional visibility allows these young talents to engage with an international audience of contemporary photography enthusiasts. Exhibition From 5 July to 5 October 2025 La Lampisterie, Luma Arles prix-dior.luma.orgAlien Love Call by Aline Savioz Created in 2024, Alien Love Call draws inspiration from romantic ideals and the collective imagination shaped by 1950s cinema, 1970s design and popular culture codes, particularly those of science fiction. This project is set in a fictional and fantastical universe, where fulfilment and lightness intertwine. Composed of six images staged and shot in medium format film, the series brings to life a retro-futuristic fiction, telling a love story between two aliens. It explores nostalgia for the future, that paradoxical feeling of attachment to a time we have never known, when we projected an idealised future. Alien Love Call evokes this unique melancholy and creates a visual refuge where romance blossoms in a setting from another time, both familiar and unreal. Through the images, we follow the protagonists in the moments leading up to their meeting, until their rendezvous at the Jazz Club, animated by a caricatured trumpet player in a cinematic atmosphere. @saviozalA Home With No Roof by Sara De Brito Faustino The place where I grew up was a mixture of strangeness and familiarity. It should have been a refuge, but it was the scene of painful moments. Uncomfortable and dysfunctional, it bears the traces of traumas that I can hardly remember, except for deep scars. The only remnants are in the decor of my current flat. This project stems from that, using 1:15 scale models of my house to explore this history in a new light. By reconstructing the space in miniature, I am able to confront it with distance. These scenes become a dialogue with my traumas. The confrontation takes place through reduced objects, body sculptures and plays on scale. My flat becomes a hybrid place, somewhere between shelter and threat. The images convey the identity of a young girl in the making, growing up in imbalance. By deconstructing and reconstructing, bodies become objects, and vice versa. I am both subject and object in this space, confronting what has shaped me. Photography becomes catharsis, bringing me closer to a blurred past. A Home With No Roof questions what it means to face one s history: a silent dialogue to reconcile the intimate. The series is a face-to-face encounter with my traumas, allowing me to become a healthy adult. @colddaily
