Congratulations to Avril Lehmann and Yael Vallotton, Bachelor Cinema graduates, whose film Le Miracle received the H.R. Giger “Narcisse” Award for Best Swiss Short Film at the 2026 NIFFF.
The Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) features a program primarily dedicated to the fantasy film genre, complemented by two other themes: digital creation and Asian cinema. This multidisciplinary approach to the fantasy tradition enables the festival to develop an innovative discourse around cinematographies of the imaginary.
The NIFFF presents a selection of more than 150 films divided into various programs and four competitions, including the competition for Best Swiss Fantastic Short. The laureates are selected by the Société Suisse des Auteurs and Suissimage. They receive the “Narcisse” Prize, which trophy was designed by Swiss sculptor and designer H.R. Giger.
Le Miracle, written and directed by Avril Lehmann
and Yael Vallotton
, depicts the struggle for power and intimacy between a mother, Angelica, and her adult son, Mattia. After her tyrannical son interrupts her bath, Angelica is finally able to let go. She begins to masturbate in front of a poster of soccer player Valenti, her son’s idol. Suddenly, Valenti’s gaze fixes on her… a surreal face-to-face encounter between oppression and desire.
