Congratulations to Eliot Möwes, an ECAL Bachelor Fine Arts graduate, on winning the 2026 Alice Bailly Grant.
The Alice Bailly Foundation, established upon the artist's death in accordance with her wishes, awards an annual grant to support young visual artists living in French-speaking Switzerland. First awarded in 1951, the Alice Bailly Grant is bestowed upon artists working in the fields of painting, drawing, sculpture, or printmaking. Receipt of the grant is accompanied by an exhibition at the Musée Jenisch Vevey, held every two years, to showcase the work of the previous year's and the current year's laureates.
Eliot Möwes , who completed his Bachelor Fine Arts at ECAL in 2021, is the recipient of the 2026 Alice Bailly Grant. Using stencils, rollers, and techniques derived from spray painting, the artist creates works on canvas, wood, and directly on walls. His compositions, built around gradients and subtle chromatic nuances, bring forth blurred figures, objects, and geometric patterns, as if suspended between appearance and disappearance. By deliberately challenging the limits of visual perception, Eliot Möwes' works offer an interpretation of reality that oscillates between figuration and abstraction.
He has previously exhibited at the independent art space HIT (2024), the Mighela Shama (2024) and Kissed Then Burned (2026) galleries in Geneva, as well as in the exhibition KOBRA HERITAGE 1997–2017 at CIRCUIT, Center for Contemporary Art in Lausanne (2024).
The work of Eliot Möwes, alongside that of the 2025 Alice Bailly Grant laureate, Lou Cohen, will be presented at the Pavillon de l'estampe of the Musée Jenisch Vevey, in dialogue with woodcuts by Alice Bailly. The exhibition opening will take place on September 4 at 6:30pm, and the exhibition will run through September 27, 2026.
