From December 7 to 15, 2023, discover the 100 most beautiful posters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2022 at ECAL. The exhibition presents the posters awarded in the 2023 competition. Opening Wednesday December 6 at 6pm.
The 100 Best Posters Germany Austria Switzerland competition is organized annually by 100 Beste Plakate e. V. and aims to publicize special achievements in poster design from the three countries in the form of a yearbook and several exhibitions. Posters of all genres and printing techniques that were designed, printed and published in the respective year can be submitted. The competition for the 100 best posters, which has so far been held 22 times on an international scale, is considered an important institution of contemporary poster design. Numerous graphic designers, students of graphic design at art academies and universities of applied sciences, agencies, offices, clients and printers take part every year. 663 entrants with a total of 2,298 posters (1,074 individual posters, 335 series) took part in the current competition. The jury then made a preliminary selection. At the final jury meeting held in late February 2023 in the Medienhaus of Berlin University of the Arts, 383 posters (277 individual posters and 106 series) by 239 entrants were considered.
By country, the 100 award-winning posters and poster series are divided into 48 × Germany, 43 × Switzerland and 9 × Austria. They are 87 commissioned works, 2 artist commissions and 11 student project commissions. Without restrictions on content or form in accordance with the competition announcement, the selection represents a broad stylistic palette of poster design in the German-speaking world and shows the work of professional designers and students on an equal footing.
The results are presented on an exhibition tour as well as in the yearbook and are available for viewing free of charge in the searchable and filterable comprehensive online archive (since volume 01).
In year 22, winning posters will once again be presented as augmented reality. With the support of the Artivive app, available for iOS and Android, in cooperation with the makers from A-Vienna, visitors to the exhibitions can call up the stored version as moving posters for a number of winning images as well as the illustrations in the book:
