Diploma project by Emma Bedos

How can we continue to exist in the places we have left, through the memories of those who remain? In this project, I wanted to grasp the feeling of distance and the way technology tries to compensate for it. I asked my relatives on my home island to capture images of shared memories. Transcribed in photogrammetry to materialise them, the combination of communication and memory work creates a new shared environment. The result highlights the omnipresence of the void. The installation materialises this remote contact, as the negative of itself, via cuts in fluttering and elusive silk. The imagination completes the memory and projects fantasised images of a distant ideal, where presence/absence resonates and lingers.

MEDIA & INTERACTION DESIGN

Grand Palais Éphémère - Palais Augmenté

Collaboration with Robin Bervini, Milo Keller, Kylan Luginbühl, Pauline Saglio

Co-produced by Fisheye and the Réunion des Musées Nationaux - Grand Palais, the Palais Augmenté festival takes place inside the Grand Palais Éphémère. Exceptionally, in partnership with ECAL, augmented reality projects will be accessible from this point, on the façade of the Grand Palais Éphémère on 19 and 20 June 2021. At the invitation of the Palais Augmenté Festival, a selection of students from the Bachelor Media & Interaction Design and the Master Photography at ECAL have offered a series of augmented reality projects for the new Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris. By enhancing the perception of the place in real time thanks to the superimposition of visual concepts with eclectic references, the Grand Palais Éphémère is staged in a variety of imaginary futuristic, surrealist and above all playful worlds: futuristic. It becomes a photographic subject with multiple expressions and invites the public to engage via Instagram in an experience that questions the relationship between real and virtual images. 19 and 20 June 2021 Grand Palais Éphémère  Avenue Pierre Loti, 75007 Paris, France www.grandpalais.fr/fr/le-grand-palais-ephemere https://palaisaugmente.fr/ www.fabbula.com

Workshop with Milo Keller, Robin Bervini

Virtual Reality introduction workshop tutored by Milo Keller with the technical assistance of Florian Amoser and Robin Bervini. During this 5 days introduction, students learned to use Unreal Engine 4 to prototype and test their scenes in real-time. Working in pairs, each of them started to develop a level of a global VR experience that will be presented at the Biennale dell'immagine 2021 in Chiasso.

An increasing number of images are produced autonomously by machines for machines with a gradual exclusion of any human intervention. "Automated Photography" is a research project developed by the Master Photography at ECAL that addresses this situation by examining image production and distribution technologies, such as machine learning, drones CGI, augmented reality and photogrammetry.
