Congratulations to Charlyne Genoud, a graduate of ECAL's Cinema Bachelor, whose diploma film Respirer une fois sur trois received the Best Swiss Newcomer Award at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival.

Charlyne Genoud 's diploma film, Respirer une fois sur trois (2026), was featured at the Locarno Film Festival as part of the "Concorso Nazionale", the competition of the "Pardi di Domani" section that is dedicated to Swiss productions. This section serves as a territory for expressive experimentation and innovative forms of poetry, showcasing short and medium-length films as world or international premieres and mapping out the possible pathways the cinema of the future might take.

In this documentary film, the director follows her mother's advice: excercise in order ward off the curse of osteoporosis that hangs over the women in her family. She therefore joins a strength-training class attended by older women who love to sing and share coffee together. From one burst of laughter to the next, they transform this ordinary place into a refuge that nurtures both body and mind. In their company, the filmmaker explores her relationship to her mother's fragility and attempts to rethink her own perception of old age.

Charlyne Genoud was assisted in the direction of this film by Camille Anker , also a ECAL Cinema Bachelor graduate, while students of the Cinema Bachelor, Louise Bercher and Jean Coutau , respectively handeled the sound editing and music.
