In a rapidly changing world, industrial design is facing new challenges. For the Milano Design Week, ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne presents UPS – Under Pressure Solutions, an experimental research project aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the furniture industry through the use of shape memory materials.

From March 1 to 24, 2023, the Galerie l'elac presents ECAL×On: the interdisciplinary work of students from ECAL Masters Product Design, Photography and Type Design. Through a transversal approach of innovation, the exhibition invites to explore a futuristic universe of the running shoe. Opening and panel discussion on February 28 at 6pm.

An increasing number of images are produced autonomously by machines for machines with a gradual exclusion of any human intervention. "Automated Photography" is a research project developed by the Master Photography at ECAL that addresses this situation by examining image production and distribution technologies, such as machine learning, drones CGI, augmented reality and photogrammetry.

After the Milan Design Week and before the KIKK Festival in Namur (BE), the Gallery l'elac hosts the exhibition "Fantastic Smartphones" - a series of interactive installations developed by students in Bachelor Media & Interaction Design at ECAL, investigating in a critical and offbeat way our relationship with smartphones and the way they influence our daily behavior.

After the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, ECAL is hosting the exhibition "It's Not Complicated" by the renowned Zurich graphic design agency Norm. Based on their latest book "Dimension of Two", Dimitri Bruni, Manuel Krebs and Ludovic Varone present for their first museum exhibition an examination of the most fundamental elements and principles of graphic design and assure that "It's Not Complicated". It's up to you to judge on the spot!

Awarded with the 2019 Swiss Design Grand Prix, journalist and stylist Connie Hüsser has always been fascinated by young talents and design. She loves the handmade, the colourful and the unexpected. She carefully brings these objects together in a presentation made with unrestrained fantasy. After the 2018 Interior Biennial in Kortrijk (BE) and Design Miami / Basel 2019, Connie Hüsser presents at the Gallery l'elac an evolving selection of projects created by international and contemporary designers.

Curated by Andrea Caputo and Anniina Koivu, the "U-Joints" exhibition features the first chapter of an ongoing research initiated on the occasion of the Milan Design Week 2018. A large selection of nails, screws, rivets, bolts and nuts is shown alongside products created by international designers and a new taxonomy of basic fasteners, graphically developed by Graphic Thought Facility.

«Un paysage de la modernité», premier titre de la collection «Les Cahiers de l’Ouest» (Editions Infolio), propose une étude réalisée par Bruno Marchand, professeur à l’Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), qui montre combien l’Ouest lausannois porte la marque du Mouvement moderne, notamment dans ses ensembles bâtis et son architecture du logement. Dans le cadre de cet ouvrage (réalisé graphiquement par l’Atelier Poisson), les étudiants de 2e année en Bachelor Photographie de l’ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, sous la direction de Matthieu Gafsou, ont offert leurs regards photographiques sur cette thématique.

Du 1 er au 29 mai 2015 à la Galerie l’elac à Renens, l’ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne présente «Antoine Boudin – Arundo e Estrambord». Proposée dans le cadre des Designer’s Days au Palais de Tokyo à Paris en 2014, cette exposition du designer français, diplômé en 2008 du Bachelor Design Industriel de l’ECAL, aborde la thématique du mouvement avec la présence d’un bateau réalisé en cannes de Provence et dévoile les nouveaux matériaux, ainsi que les objets issus de cette recherche.

From 1st May to 5th June 2014 at the l’elac Gallery in Renens, ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne presents “Pierre Charpin – la part du dessin”. The French designer exhibits some hundred drawings on various media (paper, tarpaulin...). The exhibition is complemented by a 160-page monograph published by JRP | Ringier and a special serigraphy made for the occasion.

From 13 December to 15 February 2014, ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne presents the “ECAL Photography” exhibition in the Gallery l'elac at Renens. The exhibition offers a selection of works produced by 58 young talents during their Photography Bachelor curriculum at ECAL. All these images were chosen by exhibition curator Nathalie Herschdorfer, who has developed several internationally acclaimed projects around emerging photography, as well as by Milo Keller, head of the Photography programme at ECAL, and Alexis Georgacopoulos, ECAL director. The scenography of the exhibition is created especially by Swiss designer Adrien Rovero.
