Published between 1943 and 1967, “Der Kreis” was one of the first gay magazines in Switzerland, whose network grew internationally. As an editorial platform it developed a position and a visual language for the gay community. A contemporary look at the magazine raises questions about the origins of queer culture and its relationship with notions of visibility, i.e. being recognisable while remaining hidden.
