Italy. A childhood home. The sweetness of a grandmother. The strength of a relationship between a brother and a sister. Valentina is younger, a teenager, and she will remain so forever. She is dead. And she does not understand that one can grow old, fall in love, move away from childhood to make one's own life like Dino who comes back to introduce the woman he loves. The resolutely poetic point of view of the script met the very beautiful incarnation of its young actress who knew how to magnify it, to go beyond it. Curiously, the character of the ghost, Valentina, is the most alive of the film. She lives an eternal present, a demanding adolescence that each shot manages to render with sensitivity. And because she loves her brother, because she understands that he must live far from her memory, Valentina decides to leave, to die again, in all discretion.

As part of Paris Photo 2025, the students’ work was showcased at the Moncler boutique on the Champs-Élysées.

Dorian Pangallo – Sublime Démocratie

by Dorian Pangallo

In an era where crises follow one another and justify a state of permanent exception, Sublime Democracy is a critical multimedia campaign portraying democracies stripped of their foundations, yet upheld by persistent symbols sustaining the illusion. Designed as a contemporary fable, the work draws on precise presidential speeches and polished visuals, integrating AI as the engine of a critical process where falsehood becomes language. By playing with the codes of power, it questions our habituation to fear, authority, and dominant narratives.

As students embark on their final year of study at ECAL, with their interests and methods taking shape, this final project offers an opportunity to challenge their own rules, established practices and influences, to refuse to settle for the status quo and to take risks.
