Smell&Tell

Sophia Götz – Smell&Tell

Olfactory stimulation for people with dementia

Using the power of smell – one of the senses most strongly associated with emotion and memory – Smell&Tell creates meaningful interactions and provides stimuli for communication and playful engagement.

People with dementia can maintain their quality of life and promote well-being by participating in activities and social interactions that stimulate the brain and help maintain daily functions.

The outcome of this research project is an olfactory game consisting of a series of ten selected odours and different ways to trigger (verbal/nonverbal) conversations.

The design of the interaction between the caregiver and the affected person is not only intended to be enjoyable, but also to strengthen their relationship and provide a sense of meaning and identity.
