Head of workshop: Klaudia Reynicke
"The aim of the second-year BA fiction workshop 2024-2025 was to write and direct short films on a very limited budget and to a very tight deadline. As head of this workshop, I chose to push these constraints to make it a real learning tool for the students. We took our inspiration from the principles of Dogma 95, while imposing a theme: ‘birth’. The idea was to get the students to concentrate fully on the essence of filmmaking, to tell stories in the most raw and sincere way possible, without relying on devices often considered indispensable. This approach allowed them to explore storytelling and directing in a new way. Most of them played along. I ended up relaxing some of the rules of Dogme 95, which may seem contradictory. But this strict framework, which wasn't very sexy for many at first, served as a starting point, giving them a basis and constraints for experimenting, testing and researching. Then the projects took over. Everyone found their own urgency, their own rules. So we left Dogme 95 behind and concentrated on the films themselves. Films that are unique, sincere, sometimes raw, often powerful and as rich as they are profound, in all their splendour."
