ECAL × OFFECCT AT 3 days of design,18–20.06.2025,Copenhagen ECAL is taking part in the 2025 edition of 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen with the project Sound & Vision, created in collaboration with Swedish brand Offecct. As the modern workspace and living environment trend towards open-plan designs, the need for versatile acoustic solutions have regained momentum. Offecct has teamed up with students part of Master Product Design from ECAL, led by course tutor Camille Blin, to reinterpret the acoustic room divider, an essential tool in structuring both our spaces and our ideas. Acoustics have been a steady part of Offecct s portfolio since the early 2000s, and it is time for this category to question its own versatility and its influence on the well-being of our workplaces. These projects do more than divide space: they reinterpret familiar gestures, reveal the poetry of modest materials, and offer sensitive responses to the needs of the contemporary office. Together, they form a landscape of objects that are both technical and adaptable, where every separation becomes an opportunity for expression, comfort, and reinvention of the workplace.VENUEPapirøen 21 1436 CopenhagenDATES & SCHEDULEFrom 18 to 20 June 2025HEAD OF PROGRAMMEWEBSITE3daysofdesign.dkSTUDENTS, , , , , , , ASSISTANTOPENING18 June at 4pmPARTNERSFLOKK DESIGN Marianne Sælid, Vice President, Design Managment Oscar Shu Hao Kwong, Designer, Design Managment Special Thanks To: Christian Lodgaard OFFECCT Magdalena Borowiec, Brand Manager Øystein Austad, Design Manager offecct.flokk.com

Realtime Narratives 2025 Project
Realtime Narratives 2025

Realtime Narratives 2025 During the Realtime Narratives course, second-year students had to create a real-time narrative experience using Unreal Engine software. The aim of the project was to raise students awareness of the use of 3D realtime engines and the various links with other software specific to each stage of development. Overload This project explores how the environment and pressures of modern office life seep into the subconscious of an ordinary person. During a dream in a dark and stormy forest, the player is confronted with a landscape imbued with palpable tension, where oversized office objects illustrate the weight and omnipresence of the professional world. These strange visions represent the transformation of the banal into oppressive figures within mental space. The dreamlike journey leads to a cavern housing a human-sized office, marking a tipping point where the chaos outside calms down before the character s abrupt awakening. By Our Badgers Climb Starting a journey isn t simple. Sometimes you need a little push from someone you trust — or maybe it s a stranger who helps you chase your goals. In this minigame, that idea comes to life. You play as a young badger. A badger that feels bored and restless while visiting his grandparents. When his grandfather suggests he set out on an adventure, the little badger is unsure and hesitant. But with the encouragement and support of those he meets along the way, he begins to create memories he ll treasure forever. This story is about perseverance, believing in what you can achieve, and remembering you re never alone — there s always someone out there who can help you find your way. Plunged into the heart of a robot family, the player can explore the house and interact with its members. But to evolve and discover the world, they must leave their family cocoon. Each time out, the player is faced with a challenge symbolizing a stage in life. Once they ve overcome the challenge, they can choose to return home. However, time does not flow in the same way inside and outside. Each time he returns, the house has changed, marked by the effects of time, just like his family. By

WHERE DID THE BATS GO?

WHERE DID THE BATS GO?,16.05.2025,Cinéma Bellevaux Pipistrelles, Serotines, and Bachelor Fine Arts students gather at Cinéma Bellevaux for an evening of performances, screenings, and sounds emerging from the invisible. In recent spring weeks, first year Bachelor Fine Arts students and cryptic bats, be they bicolored vesper bats, serotines, pipistrelles, or noctules (though undeniably communicating across two main frequency ranges: some between 40,000–50,000 Hz and others between 50,000–60,000 Hz), have been fabulously trying to establish audible contact, to hear one another, to understand each other, without ever attempting to possess. After several missed encounters, this hybrid collective invites all species to an open evening centered around the political and metaphorical question that has haunted them. Hibernation and/or escape, apathy and/or cigarette smoke, lack of interest and/or lack of water: multiple hypotheses will be raised, presented through performances, concerts, and screenings. We hope to see you and perhaps hear, together, a response emerging from torpor, or in response to it.DATES & SCHEDULEFriday May 16, 2025 7pm – Doors open 8pm – Performances Free entryVENUECinéma Bellevaux Rte Aloys-Fauquez 4 CH-1018 LausanneWEBSITEcinemabellevaux.ch

Designed in CH Made in JP Project
Designed in CH Made in JP

Designed in CH Made in JP Designed in CH, Made in JP is a collaborative project between ECAL Master Product Design, Karimoku New Standard, and Presence Switzerland. From 13 April to 13 October 2025, representatives from countries across the globe will gather to showcase innovation, culture, and sustainability at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. For Switzerland s pavilion, MA Product Design students at ECAL were tasked with designing a stackable wooden chair to be produced in Japan by Karimoku New Standard, intended to furnish the lightweight, bubble-inspired architecture by Manuel Herz. Under the guidance of Augustin Scott de Martinville, the class developed ten chair designs, each offering a distinct perspective. Some draw inspiration from the pavilion s scenography, while others explore cultural iconography or celebrate the symbiosis between two nations—each unique in heritage yet united by shared values of craftsmanship and innovation. Of the ten designs, one was selected to be produced for the pavilion: HUG, designed by Jacob Kouthoofd Martensson and Min Xiyao, is a circular chair that stacks inversely—a feature that not only informs its name but also visually embodies the essence of collaboration. This versatile design accommodates a range of uses, from conferences to general pavilion seating. The final chair will be unveiled both in Osaka in the Swiss Pavilion at the World Expo 2025, and during Milan Design Week 2025, with the full project exhibited at the House of Switzerland. Fiction film workshop with Klaudia Reynicke

Fiction film workshop with Klaudia Reynicke The 2024 fiction film workshop for 2nd year students was lead by swiss and peruvian director Klaudia Reynicke. Head of workshop: "The aim of the second-year BA fiction workshop 2024-2025 was to write and direct short films on a very limited budget and to a very tight deadline. As head of this workshop, I chose to push these constraints to make it a real learning tool for the students. We took our inspiration from the principles of Dogma 95, while imposing a theme: ‘birth . The idea was to get the students to concentrate fully on the essence of filmmaking, to tell stories in the most raw and sincere way possible, without relying on devices often considered indispensable. This approach allowed them to explore storytelling and directing in a new way. Most of them played along. I ended up relaxing some of the rules of Dogme 95, which may seem contradictory. But this strict framework, which wasn t very sexy for many at first, served as a starting point, giving them a basis and constraints for experimenting, testing and researching. Then the projects took over. Everyone found their own urgency, their own rules. So we left Dogme 95 behind and concentrated on the films themselves. Films that are unique, sincere, sometimes raw, often powerful and as rich as they are profound, in all their splendour." Applied Photography ZOOM IN ZOOM OUT This course, both practical and technical, required students to develop a true photographer s eye. Its goal was to introduce them to or help them refine their skills in various photographic genres, such as still life, portraiture, architecture, as well as documentary and staged photography. These disciplines demanded particular attention and great rigor in selecting models, locations, and objects. Mastery of composition, framing, and light management—whether natural or artificial—was essential for achieving successful shots. Throughout the course, students were encouraged to sharpen their sense of observation and their ability to create images that were both precise and expressive.

Visual Identity BA3 S1 2024-2025 Project
Visual Identity BA3 S1 2024-2025

Visual Identity BA3 S1 2024-2025 Through the prism of visual identity, this project addresses issues of graphic language and artistic direction. Each stage of the project examines an aspect of the development of a visual identity: research, concept, visual language, design and communication. RADIONModular visual identity designed for the RADION club in Amsterdam. Designed to be both recognisable and impactful, it adapts to all formats and uses in order to meet the needs of a nightclub in a highly competitive environment. HS UHT USTThis project explores a potential overhaul of the Swiss Shooting Federation s visual identity in order to place it in a more contemporary and rigorous context. By moving away from the traditional clichés associated with shooting sports, this new identity aims to reposition the federation by emphasising excellence, precision and modernity in order to appeal to a new audience. La jetée In 1962, French filmmaker Chris Marker released La Jetée. It was an experimental film made up of hundreds of 35 mm black and white shots. It tells the story of a journey through time in a distorted post-apocalyptic Paris. The visual identity is based on an original typography designed to pay homage to Marker s raw material and its French context, and transcribes the idea of sequencing and light projection. It evolves through a teaser for a screening of La Jetée and a booklet containing the entire film script. ICONOHow do you talk to images? Should exhibition images be shown or not? Collages, appropriationists, the whole world up to the present day, a constellation of images... Since the beginning of the 20th century, iconographic artists have been appropriating images produced on an industrial scale. The images of these same artists form the name of the fictitious exhibition ICONO. By re-appropriating them, identity uses their codes to communicate. ApneaNumbers are omnipresent in the world of freediving, whether measuring depth or the duration of an immersion. This visual identity is based on a variable typography with two axes, each representing one of these parameters. Duration is illustrated by the change in the fat of the counter-forms, symbolising how full the diver s lungs are. Depth is represented by the thickness of the contours, evoking the gradation of colours that darken with immersion. The animation of these variables creates a breathing effect, echoing the rhythm of apnea. Orpheum TheaterNow abandoned, the Orpheum Theater in New Bedford, USA, had its heyday at the beginning of the XXᵉ century. To illustrate its transition from 6ᵉ to 7ᵉ art, the identity of this film library traces the three major periods that marked this venue. It combines neoclassical ornamentation, as reinterpreted in the Art Deco era, with a typographic structure inspired by flyers from the golden age of theatre. The whole is geometrically

Sara De Brito Faustino winner of the Prix Françoise Champoud 2024

Sara De Brito Faustino winner of the Prix Françoise Champoud 2024 Congratulations to photographer Sara De Brito Faustino, ECAL graduate, who wins the Prix Françoise Champoud 2024, an award that will support the development of her promising artistic career. The Fondation Françoise Champoud has just awarded its annual prize to talented photographer , an alumnus of ECAL. The prize, endowed with CHF 50,000, is awarded alternately in the fields of lyrical art, performing arts and art & design, supporting high-potential emerging artists. Sara De Brito Faustino, awarded in the art & design category, won over the jury with her striking artistic project, which explores the meanders of memory through disturbing and poetic images. Graduating with a Bachelor s degree in photography from ECAL, Sara De Brito Faustino distinguished herself with her graduation work A Home with No Roof (previously named “Toute petite et vilaine”), a project that had already won her the Vevey Images Prize at the ECAL graduation ceremony in 2023 . His singular approach consists in reconstructing, from fabricated and cobbled-together elements, scenes evoking missing memories, like fragments of recomposed reality. According to Florence Grivel, journalist and member of the jury, her work is “powerful and gripping, in which an ambivalent and troubling reality is narrated, in which the missing memory is restored from surprising elements”. Winning the Prix Françoise Champoud is a major boost for this young photographer. “This financial support is a precious help that will enable me to pursue my projects and devote myself fully to my art”, confided Sara. The artist plans to exhibit her project A Home with No Roof in its final version at L Appartement, Vevey, from November 27. This monographic exhibition will mark a crucial stage in her career, revealing to the public a universe that is both intimate and universal, shaped by meticulous and singular artistic techniques. Sara De Brito Faustino, who is also an academic assistant at the ECAL, is determined to build on this success, with the support of the Champoud Foundation. Her passion for photography, born in adolescence and nourished by intense personal experiences, is now recognized by prestigious institutions.

The HydrogenCooker is a green cooking station powered by hydrogen, developed in collaboration with EPFL s Renewable Energy Research Laboratory and Softpower, a startup based in Cameroon. The project addresses a major public health issue: according to the World Health Organization, the use of fossil fuels for cooking and indoor air pollution cause 3.8 million deaths every year in developing countries. The HydrogenCooker offers a sustainable and innovative solution, using hydrogen produced locally by solar energy as an alternative to open-fire or natural gas stoves, generating only water vapor during cooking. The project incorporates design elements inspired by local habits observed during a research trip to Cameroon, ensuring an approach adapted to the specific needs of the communities. The James Dyson Award is an international design competition that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of engineers and designers. SORTIR DU CADRE – ECAL + DECATHLON Project
SORTIR DU CADRE – ECAL + DECATHLON

SORTIR DU CADRE – ECAL + DECATHLON On the occasion of Paris Design Week 2024, DECATHLON is partnering with ECAL s Product Design Master s programme to unveil "Sortir du Cadre", an installation showcasing two prototypes of electric-assisted trekking bikes based on research into eco-design. Through this collaboration, DECATHLON engages the younger generation of designers around eco-design themes. These concept bikes, envisioned by students from Product Design Master s  programme, express a vision of the future in which sustainable development and the pleasure of outdoor activities go hand in hand. Galva by Justus Hilfenhaus & Jiahao Huang Data collected* by DECATHLON show that steel is far less polluting than aluminum in almost every aspect of bicycle production. Yet most e-bike frames today are made from aluminum. Based on this observation, Galva offers a galvanized steel frame in which the battery is integrated and protected. To limit excess weight, the frame uses a minimum of materials while retaining its strength. Production is based mainly on tube stamping and bending, cold processes that consume less energy. Galvanizing the steel also provides a durable coating, guaranteeing the frame s longevity. *Based on the LCDN 3.1 database provided by the European Commission. E-Venture by Gabriella Duck Garnham, Aurelia Pleyer & Yichen Wu Inspired by the structure of the human body, E-venture revisits the anatomy of the bicycle by offering a more frugal alternative. A sleek, skeletal steel frame integrates electrical components, creating space inside the bike s “skin” to store the elements needed for touring. The E-venture s skin is made from unused textiles from DECATHLON s camping range and adopts the layering principle used for outdoor clothing. This design aims to offer flexible, lightweight storage, ideal for long trips, yet still suitable for everyday commuting.

Mon être Project
Mon être

Sacha Décoppet – Mon être Human trafficking is a complex issue. It is a form of extreme exploitation that needs to be examined and understood in the context of global poverty, restrictive migration policies, economic crises and discrimination based on sex, ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation. Mon être is an edition that attempts to explain this phenomenon, by giving a voice to women who have been victims of exploitation, in collaboration with a Lausanne-based association, ASTREE. To do this, the project is a mix of testimonials, the results of artistic workshops, interviews with people fighting against this scourge and journalistic sources.

La Synthèse des Couleurs Project
La Synthèse des Couleurs

Hector Codazzi – La Synthèse des Couleurs Synopsis : From one image to another, Louise, aged 25, strives to find her place in the demanding world of modeling. As a young photographer being increasingly involved in the world of imagery and advertising through my professional experiences, I wanted to take a closer look at this world that both fascinates and repels me in some ways, but above all intrigues me with its ambiguous relationship to reality. I directed a short film that depicts the trajectory of a model in this industry, a fiction that aims to address several questions : the self-staging induced by the profusion of images, the mechanisms of oppression related to the creation of advertising images, the pursuit of social mobility by young generations and how this pursuit clashes with the reality of the job market.

Encore une nuit sans Georges Project
Encore une nuit sans Georges

Barnabé Masson – Encore une nuit sans Georges I gathered eight close friends of my father, who passed away ten years ago. Together, we delved into the feelings induced by absence and mourning. With the help of cameras, I observe the bodies of these sixty-year-old men to explore tenderness, emotions, and the various spontaneous manifestations that emerge when they are confronted with strong emotions. These male bodies, usually under constant logical control, in the image of our culture and economy. The video shows hands, arms, faces, and eyes, sometimes embarrassed, sometimes resistant, and sometimes allowing themselves to be overwhelmed by emotions. This work has allowed me, through these men, to reconstruct my father, to confront him, and to examine my relationship with masculinity.

Cyriane Rawyler – Medusa Medusa is a collaborative project linking performance to hyperfemininity. This physical exploration symbolizes the reappropriation of the body through transformation. The need to exchange and meet these protagonists arose from a personal event that allowed me to regain control of a destroyed space. Blonde hair, length, and shine unite us to create a community. Through photography, the notions of self-image and control interact, creating celestial beings that tame space. Medusa aims to understand and accept the multiple facets of identity, offering a means of rebellion and self-affirmation.

It aims to show the principle of ‘trans work theorised by Josephine Gilles Harris in 2019. J. G. With an activation of texts by Laurène Marx, Tom Grbic, Josephine Gilles Harris and Adel Tincelin, it is also an effort to inscribe ourselves in a lineage, a critical and welcoming queer History.

LittleCubes Project
LittleCubes

Sasha Iatsenia – LittleCubes Today, 1 in 15 children are affected by a disorder that alters their behaviors, impacting their educational, socialization, and communication skills. LittleCubes were designed as therapeutic toys to help develop these skills through light and play. Using a cube that lights up and responds to natural gestures, therapists can create fun and engaging exercises using an intuitive app. While designing this project, I discovered that I have autistic traits, inspiring me to build a toy I would have loved as a child. My goal is to build bridges between neurotypical and neurodiverse experiences, making the world more inclusive for all. To date, I have tested the cube with more than 15 therapists and 30 children (ASD, motor deficiencies and associated disorders). I hope to continue this project after my diploma. This project is supported by Fondation Dr Combe.
