"Life is a Bed of Roses (un roman)" exhibition,26.05–04.07.2015,Fondation Ricard, Paris Une exposition de l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne et de la Fondation d entreprise Ricard, Paris. «Life is a Bed of Roses (un roman)» – Exposition jusqu au 4 juillet 2015 – L Ecole de Stéphanie du 2 au 4 juillet 2015 Ce projet a été conçu par Stéphanie Moisdon, avec la participation des étudiants et des enseignants du Master Arts Visuels de l ECAL. Sous la forme d un roman d éducation de l imagination ou d imagination de l éducation, l exposition est le lieu d un théâtre et d un chœur, d un décor, d apparitions de formes, d objets et de personnages. Le cheminement évolutif de ce roman d apprentissage s est progressivement formé, durant toute une année, autour d un film d Alain Resnais, du souvenir déplié du château du Comte Forbek, dans l esprit des temps médiévaux, celui des artisans de tous temps. Pour écrire à plusieurs ce conte léger et moderne de la jeunesse, il aura fallu s appuyer sur quelques stratégies obliques, circuler entre l expérience et l immaturité, le talent et le métier, entre les prédispositions personnelles et l idéal collectif. Ce travail en «ateliers» a été conduit par Valentin Carron, Sylvie Fleury, Tristan Garcia, Stéphane Kropf, Fabian Marti, en collaboration avec Lucile Dupraz. La scénographie a été réalisée par Denis Savary avec Ruben Valdez et le générique par Lisa Stein. L Ecole de Stéphanie L exposition accueille durant trois jours la 6ème édition de «L Ecole de Stéphanie», qui se déroule dans un espace modélisé à partir des fonctions minimales d une salle de classe. Son image a été pensée par Pierre Joseph, qui la définit ainsi: «L espace intègre une série de douze photographies de vitraux, une moquette bleue, une table de conférence, un équipement audio-visuel, et des sièges en nombre suffisant. L ensemble pourrait évoquer d emblée une salle de classe de l enseignement catholique mais ce n est pas ici véritablement l enjeu. La série d images, prise sans vocation documentaire, ni cadrage exigeant, nous renvoie davantage du côté du mitraillage photographique et touristique que vers une lecture savante de l iconographie religieuse. Malgré cela, fruit du hasard et de différents paramètres, dont l ensoleillement de la cathédrale Notre-Dame, où ont été prises ces photos, ce jour-là, de la distance objectif/sujet, de la focale et de l exposition, une seule scène de vitraux aura été choisie. Il s agit d un motif fréquent de l art chrétien, l arbre de Jessé, dans une version restaurée de Viollet-le-Duc. On pourra donc y voir et y lire, une allusion parcellaire à la généalogie de Jésus et donc à l histoire et la transmission au sens large. L arrière-plan de chacun des personnages de ces vitraux étant bleu comme l est la moquette qui emplit l espace de la classe, le dispositif inclut malgré lui le visiteur ou l élève dans cette «histoire» Ces images sérielles n en sont pas moins tout à fait décoratives et joueront de cette manière et sur ce registre avec le reste de l exposition.» Le prototype de «L Ecole de Stéphanie» n est ni une fiction ni une parodie, mais le pilote d une école, une situation amenée à se déplacer et à se renouveler, comme c est le cas depuis sa création en 2006 pour «La force de l art», triennale d art contemporain à Paris. «L Ecole de Stéphanie» est un espace de projection, de travail, de transmission et de mutualisation des savoirs. Une petite école temporaire où les questions d image, de représentation et de langage circulent librement. Un lieu émancipé des règles et de l autorité, des classements et des disciplines, qui fonctionne hors programme et sans manuel. Sur toute la durée de la manifestation, des «maîtres» et «maîtresses» interviennent selon un rythme intensif. Ils ne cherchent pas à régner, ils s inventent des filiations et des trajectoires personnelles, des méthodes et des outils de pédagogie. Ils enseignent, le temps d une classe, une leçon de choses, une leçon de mots. Collaboration with Christofle – 2015 ECAL lays the table For this fifth collaboration between ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne and the Maison Christofle, the students of the Master of Advanced Studies have taken the challenge to dive straight into the heart of silversmithing history by creating a set of cutlery. This particularly demanding project required a perfect mastery of proportions, ergonomy and detail refinement. During a four weeks workshop, led by the Slovakian born and Lausanne based designer Tomas Kral, the 12 students of the programme have individually created their concepts. Within the variety of proposals, 6 projects were selected for further development and the production of prototypes. This second phase enabled the students to further refine the details, while constantly verifying the precision of the forms trough 3D printed resin mock-ups. Thanks to cutting edge technologies - in particular 3D printing in metal - and the expertise of Christofle s centuries old craftsmanship, 6 sets of forks, knives and spoons were produced in a record timeframe, while ensuring the outstanding quality of the manual finishing.Dipping Rodrigo Caula Inspired by the Christofle manufacture visit and especially by the process of silver coating, this project creates the illusion of a raw core hidden in the inner of the cutlery. During the process, the pieces are submerged in a silver bath while being held on its tips. The chiseled core which reveals the raw and textured appearance, seems to be covered and smoothened by a film applied to the rest of the piece. Frisson Alexis Tourron For this project, the point of departure was an abstentious and pure form, while the handles were subtilely transformed. Inspired by the movement and waves on the surface of the water, this series of cutlery comes to life through its refined aesthetics and the reflections on the polished metallic surface. Posata Stefano Panterotto This project bridges the gap between tradition and modernity with its forms inspired by the gestures and the handling of the cutlery. The details like bevels, cuts or marks become subtile decorations and enrich the pieces with a refined and contemporary character. Collerette Ophélie Sanga Just as the Renaissance costumes, the ruff decorates the edges of this cutlery set. Reminding us of gathered fabric, the wavy surface creates a dynamic play of reflections, referencing at the same time the past and the present, resulting in a highly contemporary piece. Etang d Or Kaja Solgaard Dahl This project was largely inspired by the lakeside landscape at dusk. The base of the cutlery was hollowed out and the resulting indentation was then plated with a golden reflecting finish. The erosion of the volume leads to a pronounced contrast between perfection and imperfection. Point de Paris Annie Tung Anchored in the French cultural patrimony, the laced fabric creates a direct association to the environment of the table. All the pieces of cutlery seem to be wrapped by a fine broidery in order to perfectly match to the fabric of the tablecloth and the napkins. The pieces manage to be at the same time feminine, delicate and classic while maintaining a contemporary impression due to their minimalistic formal language.

Exhibition «Antoine Boudin – Arundo e Estrambord»,29.04–29.05.2015,Gallery l elac, ECAL Du 1 er au 29 mai 2015 à la Galerie l elac à Renens, l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne présente «Antoine Boudin – Arundo e Estrambord». Proposée dans le cadre des Designer s Days au Palais de Tokyo à Paris en 2014, cette exposition du designer français, diplômé en 2008 du Bachelor Design Industriel de l ECAL, aborde la thématique du mouvement avec la présence d un bateau réalisé en cannes de Provence et dévoile les nouveaux matériaux, ainsi que les objets issus de cette recherche. Dans la continuité de son projet sur la canne de Provence initié avec la Bourse Agora pour le Design, Antoine Boudin présente un nouveau volet de son travail à partir de cette graminée géante. Il propose un point de vue fort sur la place du designer dans la valorisation de déchets issus d une culture très présente dans le Var. Le designer invite également l artiste vidéaste Jean-Baptiste Warluzel à travers une installation et des vidéos qui poussent l art et le design au dialogue avec la canne de Provence comme matière première. Antoine Boudin Antoine Boudin est né en Avignon en 1986. Il est diplômé de l ECAL (Bachelor Design Industriel) en 2008 avec «Quieu Bagna», un bateau de camps à voile latine. En 2009, il assiste le designer Alexander Taylor à Londres avant de remporter le grand prix du jury de Design Parade 4, présidé par Jasper Morrison. Il devient ensuite l assistant de François Azambourg de 2009 à 2011. En 2010, il présente quatorze nouvelles pièces dans son exposition «…E ié vivèn de belli causo» («… et on y vit de belles choses»), retraçant un an de résidence à la Villa Noailles à Hyères. Passionné par la matière et par le «faire», Antoine Boudin développe un travail axé sur les matériaux ancrés dans le territoire où il est amené à travailler, s inscrivant dans une démarche d éco-conception. Ses projets sont influencés par ses origines provençales et méditerranéennes, abordant l industrie et l artisanat avec la même volonté d innovation. En 2011, il ouvre son propre atelier à Hyères afin de développer de nouveaux projets et de continuer ses recherches sur les matériaux, la Provence et la mer. Collaboration with Vacheron Constantin – 2015 Vacheron Constantin presents the “Arts & Crafts & Design: Time according to ECAL and Swiss Craftsmen”, an exhibition produced in partnership with ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne and the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d Arte for the Swiss Pavilion at the Milan Expo (May 1st – October 31st 2015), and presented as a preview during the Salone del Mobile at the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi in Milan. This original approach links contemporary creation to several time-honoured know-hows. Within the framework of this project, Vacheron Constantin has asked 12 students from the Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship of ECAL to combine their creativity with that of experienced craftsmen in order to produce unique objects and demonstrate the richness, the variety, as well as the relevance to contemporary creation of these artisanal crafts. Under the leadership of Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin (Studio Formafantasma) these 12 “duos” have worked on the same theme, Time, and more precisely on the cyclical time of the seasons, using materials as diverse as paper, stone, glass or carbon.
Exposition "Arts & Crafts & Design" with Vacheron Constantin,14.04.2015 Vacheron Constantin presents the “ Arts & Crafts & Design : Time according to ECAL and Swiss Craftsmen” exhibition, produced in partnership with ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne (University of Art and Design Lausanne) and the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d Arte at the Swiss Pavilion at Expo Milan 2015, (the Universal Exhibition to be hosted by Milan) and of which a preview will be launched during the Milan Furniture Fair. This is an innovative approach combining contemporary creation and arts and crafts, and entirely dedicated to knowledge transfer. The Manufacture Vacheron Constantin is delighted to share its passion and its philosophy in its capacity as partner to the Swiss Pavilion at Expo Milan 2015. This prestigious event represents a magnificent opportunity for exchanges as well as a unique showcase for the expertise and crafts of the participating countries. Expo Milan 2015 will take place in Italy from May 1st to October 31st 2015 and is particularly relevant in view of the history of the Manufacture: in 1819, François Constantin, during a voyage to Italy, first enounced the working principle that is now the company motto: “Do better if possible, and that is always possible…” The exhibition presented in Milan is the fruit of a joint project bringing together ECAL, the prestigious university of art and design with an international reputation, the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d Arte, an institution known for its commitment to the sustainability of the artistic crafts, and the Manufacture Vacheron Constantin. Since 2013, Vacheron Constantin has partnered the ECAL s Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship, a unique training course for the various creative arts professions related to the world of luxury. Axor WaterDream: a Conceptual Study of Glass Spouts In a one-of-a-kind collaboration, Axor, the design brand of Hansgrohe, has given the ECAL Bachelor Industrial Design and Master Product Design students the opportunity to design a series of interchangeable glass spouts for the bathroom using the innovative U-Base system. Vanity Mirror by Thomas Elliott Burns The connection between water and our reflection has existed long before the invention of the faucet or the mirror. This piece combines the faucet with a mirror and a small shelf space, changing our expected landscape of the bathroom. Bend by Stanislaw Czarnocki & Katarzyna Kempa Starting with a standard tube shape and adding a single cut, the spout portion of the faucet is bent away from the main body of the faucet. This elegant solution speaks towards simplicity in production methods. #Photobooth The ECAL students of the Bachelor Photography and Master Product Design present a series of interactive installations showing how mobile phone cameras and the selfie phenomenon changed the way we look at ourselves. How can one create objects and installations around the portrait theme in this digital age? What means are available to disseminate these? How can one make visitors interact with the exhibits and turn viewers into the main actors in the exhibition? Over a semester, 1st year Master Product Design students and 2nd year Bachelor Photography students from ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne worked on these issues with the aim to present their findings as part of an exhibition. Under the watchful eye of Vincent Jacquier, Head of the Visual Communication Department, of designer Camille Blin and photographer Nicolas Haeni, the students were able to understand, using various approaches, how current – material or virtual – technology alters our traditional relationship with portraits, be they selfies or pictures of others. Using modern media as well as more run-of-the-mill devices, exhibition visitors are invited to directly experiment the processes imagined by the students, allowing them to discover new interactive and fun ways of having their picture taken 3.0 style. Based on this principle, the exhibition stages an installation playing with the visitor s shadow; the combination of a mirror and scanner to create realistic or distorted self-portraits; an image which is altered through song; a tribute to famous departed designers through a system of filters placed in front of a smartphone; analogically merged faces; a 180° portrait produced by a range of reflective surfaces; a trompe-l œil projection on a mask; a family of objects able to hijack the smartphone camera function to create original images; a poetic reinterpretation Instagram; and finally, self-portraits captured by the photo itself. All the students worked together for 3 weeks, by pairs, tutored by Stéphane Bouquet, Lionel Baier and Robert Cantarella to create pluri disciplinary work of arts, movies, stand ups, installations, video art, all of which freely adapted from Pasolini s work.

Saber, film de diplôme réalisé à l ECAL avec Box Productions, qui a remporté le Quartz du Meilleur court métrage à l occasion des Prix du cinéma suisse DISCIPLINE de Christophe M. Saber 21h50, dans une épicerie de Lausanne tenue par des Egyptiens. Excédé, un père de famille perd patience et corrige son enfant désobéissante. Une cliente choquée exprime son désaccord. D autres clients interviennent, chacun y met son grain de sel et le personnel est dépassé. La conversation se transforme en débat, le débat en dispute. Christophe M. Saber Né en 1991 au Caire. Nationalité suisse et egyptienne. Après ses études dans un collège américain au Caire et une brève formation dans une école de réalisation aux USA, il intègre le département cinéma de l ECAL en 2010. DISCIPLINE est son film de diplôme. Exposition et livre de photographie: «1020 Renens»,12–27.03.2015,Ancien Cinéma Corso, Renens Du 13 au 27 mars 2015, la ville de Renens et l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne présentent «1020 Renens», un projet réalisé par les étudiants du Bachelor Photographie sous la conduite de Nicolas Faure, pour son dernier projet à l ECAL en tant que professeur. Découvrez Renens autrement par le biais d images originales présentées dans le cadre d une exposition et d un livre qui accompagne l événement. Images HD C est une question de temps. Une photographie se prend en une fraction de seconde, en un instant. Une ville se modifie, elle se transforme et pour qu elle se définisse en une nouvelle image, ça peut prendre des années, des décennies, des siècles. Sous l impulsion de Marianne Huguenin, syndique de Renens, et de Milo Keller, responsable du Bachelor Photographie, un projet de collaboration entre la municipalité et l ECAL, sise au cœur de la ville, est né. Pendant une année, le photographe suisse Nicolas Faure a travaillé avec 15 étudiants de 3e année dans le périmètre de Renens. Ils ont abordé des thématiques variées: de l enquête documentaire sur la communauté africaine, en passant par les adolescents dans les écoles ou à la piscine communale, jusqu à la vie standardisée des bureaux ou à l intimité d appartements de retraités. Ce livre et cette exposition s adressent à tout le monde, des jeunes Renanais aux personnes habitant bien au-delà de ce territoire. Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Mandate The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) asked the Master Ecal/Head for some short movies in order to enlighten the collaboration between Switzerland and Latvia. With their collaboration, the studentsdeveloped some screenplays and then directed a series of short documentaries dealing with subjects like life in the Alp regions, Swiss countryside and multiculturalism. This workshop aimed to learn how to make a portrait. COLLABORATION WITH VACHERON CONSTANTIN, Shanghai At the invitation of the Swiss watch manufacturer Vacheron Constantin, twelve students of the ECAL Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship, accompanied by the director Alexis Georgacopoulos and Nicolas Le Moigne, head of programme, went to Shanghai for an exploratory week. On this occasion, they were able to participate in the context of Twin Villas (a property that hosts the Vacheron Constantin Mansion) to a press conference celebrating the partnership Vacheron Constantin/ECAL and unveiled a preview of the exhibition "Arts & Crafts & Design: Time according to ECAL and Swiss Craftsmen » which was presented during the Milan International Furniture Fair in April, as well as the Expo Milano 2015 (World Expo) in May. They could also discover cultural venues such as Tongji University, the Shanghai Museum, the Maison Hermès, the Glass Museum, visit iconic companies related to design as MXM (upholstered furniture), Shang Xia (hi-end craftsmanship) Stellar Works (wood specialist) Spin Ceramics (ceramic brand), Neri & Hu (architecture and design agency) and look over typical neighborhoods for luxury and crafts. Masterclass with Juergen Teller Ahead of his conference at ECAL on February 11, 2015, the artist and photographer Juergen Teller visited Fine Arts Master students at their studio, to answer their questions and discuss their works. A group of photography students also participated in this masterclass. Born in Erlangen (Germany) in 1964, Juergen Teller studied at Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Photographie in Munich, before moving to London in 1986. He is known to navigate between art and commercial photography, blurring the boundaries between his commissioned works and more personal images. He has published over thirty artist books and he exhibits internationally, with solo shows at venues including the Photographers Gallery and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, Kunsthalle Vienna and Fondation Cartier in Paris. His photographs are regularly published in magazines such as POP, Die Zeit, 032c , Purple , Self Service and W Magazine . He also collaborates with numerous brands among which Céline, Helmut Lang, Louis Vuitton, Marc jacobs, and Vivienne Westwood. Cinema graduate has won the Upcoming Talents Award Rhona Mühlebach has won duri ng the 50th Solothurn Film Festival the "Upcoming Talents" award (CHF 15,000) for "Abseits der Autobahn", diploma film 2014 produced as part of the ECAL Bachelor Cinema «Abseits der Autobahn» by ECAL/Rhona Mühlebach, 22 minutes Roman and Linda are a couple that don t have much in common anymore besides drinking Bloody Marys. They go on a bike trip across the Swiss mountains. Roman rides a normal bike although he is out of shape. Linda rides an electrical bike. Their trip quickly becomes more complicated than expected. The couple find themselves at a crossroad and must make a choice. Exhibition "Heart of Glass",21.01–20.02.2015,Gallery l elac, ECAL "Heart of Glass" is a design research project HES-SO to take place within the Master in Product design of ECAL/University of art and design Lausanne. UPDATE: On the occasion of WantedDesign in Brooklyn (New York) from May 7 to 17, ECAL presents the exhibition "Heart of Glass". www.wanteddesignnyc.com Special Website: www.heartofglass.ch Using the school s multidisciplinary strength it involved master students, assistants and professors as well as young graduates in the fields of product design, fine arts, photography and interaction design to explore the possibilities offered by glass as a material in different contexts. The results include contributions by Camille Blin, Ronan Bouroullec, Cyril Porchet, Mathieu Rivier, Pauline Saglio, Augustin Scott de Martinville, Brynjar Sigurðarson and Baker Wardlaw, in collaboration with glass experts such as Matteo Gonet or the CIAV Meinsenthal. An exhibition showcasing more than 300 pieces resulting from the project will open on 21 January 2015 in the Gallery l elac in Renens. Process of improvisation: performance and situated action Performance and situated action, from social sciences to artistic practices This transdisciplinary research project aims to elaborate a critical and collaborative reflexion, between social sciences and artistic practices (i.e. visual arts, performance arts, music and film) upon the function of improvisation, as a theoretical model and a creative process, related to situated action and performance. Based on recent researches in social sciences around improvisation through different modes of actions (conversations, urgency situations, etc.), the stakes is to understand how artistic models inform social theories and render legible their interpretative process. At the same time, the ambition of this research project is to demonstrate that these same models are at the core of artistic practices and can shade a new light on the creative process. During the first year, the research resolves around four workshops-laboratories led by an artist and involving Bachelor students in each art school: Oscar Gomez Mata at the HETSR, Véronique Goël at ECAL, Yan Duyvendak at HEAD and Rudy Decelière at HEMU. During the second year, the workshop-laboratory will be led in common with the four art schools and will take shape through a collaborative research and experimental form, presented to the audience at the end of the project. Heart of glass This project questions the potential for glass in contemporary art and design to adopt a pragmatic approach with a view to producing extraordinary results. This research project also offers a cutting- edge model in the field of creative research, which places students at the heart of the process. Given the particular qualities of glass, the multiple shapes it can take and its many potential applications to art, crafts and industry, the Heart of Glass project has chosen to experiment with this material and explore new opportunities for creating and designing products. This project was partly driven by a need to question certain modes of production, both in industry and in the crafts, that are central to the concerns of young designers today. This research has also generated productive links between practical experimentation, the evaluation of the findings of these experiments and their ultimate dissemination. Finally, leaving aside the issues involved in project development itself, Heart of Glass offers a potential model for research-creation in design, based on an innovative, forward-looking approach. The objectives of the project included: developing and conducting a range of activities rooted in developing original tools and procedures and contributing to the state of the art and current body of knowledge relating to the design of glass products; using protocols to document experimental and empirical developments to ensure that experiences are shared and skills are applied; proposing samples and prototypes of objects whose formal and/or functional qualities render them suitable subjects for promising further developments; creating relevant links between experimentation, documentation and assessment to furnish designers with a suitable research methodology. The research team first identified, through a review of the literature and the potential partnerships, the best opportunities available for experimenting with new approaches in designing products in glass. On the basis of this, they identified three key themes: the application of industrial technologies to contexts other than those for which they had been designed; the design of glass projects in the context of a semi-industrial production and marketing structure; the forming of new refractory materials for the design of moulds to produce objects. Initially, these themes gave rise to practical workshops for students and assistants in the Master s degree in Product Design, supervised by professors and lecturers from ECAL. Plan B: this work on industrial technologies led to the creation of five prototypes that illustrated the potential of each of the procedures used. Technical data sheets explained their working principles. Meisenthal: six prototypes were created during a workshop held at CIAV (Centre International d Art Verrier). They were each supported by fact sheets that describe the manufacturing process. Mould Machine: in the course of a workshop covering the forming of original moulds, representative samples of the most promising techniques were selected. Different fact sheets were drawn up identifying the properties of each material tested. At a later stage, the most promising findings from each workshop were selected, and representative items were produced by practitioners from product design-related disciplines for the final project exhibition. The Heart of Glass project allowed us to develop an entire range of original tools and procedures, and consequently a very large number of samples that could serve as sources of inspiration for the design of future glass objects. A wide selection of the most interesting pieces was presented at the exhibition that marked the closure of the project. They can also be viewed on the website. In the context of this research-creation project and in accordance with the model developed by ECAL, the use of experimental workshops based on tightly defined complementary themes has proved to be extremely effective in developing original, innovative artefacts. Extreme care went into workshop organisation to ensure a clear fit between objectives and findings: the tools and procedures that were developed broadly met our expectations and the resulting datasheets offered a first, promising attempt to record and disseminate these experiments. Heart of Glass is the first of a series of research-creation projects focusing on design and materials. To its credit, this first experiment led to very important discussions about the definition of research in design and how it could be included within a master s degree curriculum. Workshop Survival Camp During this workshop, the artist and the second-year Bachelor students spent a week living in a forest in western Lausanne. The shock of being deprived of the usual comforts such as running water, electricity and heating motivated the students to produce an enormous quantity of images. Cooking over an open fire, sleeping under the stars, hunting and fishing were all part of their daily lives, and provided the perfect backdrop for visual experimentation. The responses were manifold, from still to moving images, some dealing directly with delirious contemporary camping. The common denominators of all the works are humor and off-beatness. During Paris Photo, the results are presented in the form of an installation in the unusual urban setting of Les Voûtes. After the week-long workshop in Switzerland, all the students worked with Thomas Mailaender on the design and production of the exhibition. The students experienced a week of installation in total immersion: they lived in the exhibition as they built it. The images are presented in a raw environment, a sort of village, a makeshift camp. This whole process enabled them to confront not only the shooting process, but also the question of producing and exhibiting the images to the public. The exhibition is accompanied by a two-color catalogue-journal produced by the students and printed at the ECAL.

Exhibition and book Vertiginous Parallels From November 14 to December 4, 2014, Elac Gallery presents Vertige des correspondances (Vertiginous parallels), an exhibition by ECAL s Fine Arts Master students, while ECAL launches an eponymous publication. The show and the book are the twofold outcome of a research project directed by Julien Fronsacq with the support of HES-SO/University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland. The works of Charles Blanc-Gatti (1890-1966) are largely unknown. In his search for synesthetic harmony, this musicalist painter also played with a loss of spatial markers. These two sides of Blanc-Gatti s art are explored in this project, through the relationship the artist entertained with the alpine space. The show presents a novel selection of artworks and documents by Charles Blanc-Gatti, together with works by student-researchers Jérôme Baccaglio, Anaïs Defago, Arthur Fouray, Julien Gremaud, Marine Julié, Emanuele Marcuccio, Rubén Valdez and Linda Voorwinde. Vertiginous Parallels is also a bilingual (FR/EN) publication comprising 188 pages with 85 reproductions from Blanc-Gatti s archives. Published by ECAL and distributed by Presses du réel, the book is edited by Julien Fronsacq in collaboration with Lucile Dupraz, with graphic design by Marietta Eugster and Teo Schifferli, and photographs by Jonas Marguet. Experts from various fields have contributed essays, including the music specialist Maxime Guitton, the art historian and curator Gallien Déjean, the cinema historian Teresa Castro, the artist and historian of medicine Jelena Martinovic, and the art historian and modern danse specialist Sarah Burkhalter. Exhibition "Vertiginous Parallels" at the Gallery l elac,13.11–04.12.2014,Gallery l elac, ECAL Du 14 novembre au 4 décembre 2014 (vernissage le jeudi 13 novembre à 18h), la Galerie l elac présente une exposition réalisée par les étudiants du Master Arts Visuels de l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne, dans le cadre de «Vertige des correspondances», projet de recherche sous la direction de Julien Fronsacq et soutenu par la HES-SO/Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale. L œuvre de Charles-Blanc Gatti (1890-1966), figure trop méconnue de la peinture musicaliste, se situe entre une quête d harmonie synesthésique et la perte de repères sensoriels. Ces deux versants sont abordés dans l exposition «Vertige des correspondances» à travers le prisme de la relation que l artiste suisse a entretenu avec l espace alpin. En présentant une sélection inédite d œuvres et d archives de Blanc-Gatti, «Vertige des correspondances» offre une vue d ensemble de la production de l artiste non étudiée auparavant: en parallèle à sa participation à l aventure musicaliste, et à ses écrits au sujet des sons et couleurs, Charles Blanc-Gatti fut également un inventeur et écrivain qui n a eu de cesse d éprouver les forces que l espace exerce sur le corps et nos sens. En s appuyant sur «Chromophony» – film animé, abstrait et musical réalisé en 1939 –, les étudiants-chercheurs du Master Arts Visuels de l ECAL ont souhaité s affranchir d une approche exclusivement formelle de l œuvre de Charles Blanc-Gatti, au profit d une étude décloisonnée de l ensemble de ses recherches conceptuelles. «Vertige des correspondances» propose de découvrir les recherches de Charles Blanc-Gatti dans les domaines artistiques et au-delà. A la fin de sa vie, après l élaboration d espaces picturaux, lumineux puis cinématographiques, Blanc-Gatti se consacre à l observation de paysages alpins qu il conçoit à la manière de spectacles dont il réalise des relevés cartographiques et sensoriels. «Vertige des correspondances» est également une publication bilingue (FR/EN) de 188 pages avec 85 reproductions issues des archives de Charles Blanc-Gatti, conçue en collaboration avec les graphistes Marietta Eugster et Teo Schifferli et le photographe Jonas Marguet. Exhibition "Survival Camp" in Paris Photo,08–15.11.2014,Les Voûtes, Paris From 9th to 15th of November at Les Voûtes in Paris, ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne is pleased to invite you to an exhibition by third-year Photography Bachelor students further to a workshop led by French photographer Thomas Mailaender. HD pictures The artist and the students spent a full week in complete isolation in a forest of the Wild West of Lausanne. Once over the shock of the lack of usual comforts such as running water, electricity or heating, the young photographers embraced this new lifestyle which fuelled their imagination, leading them to produce a huge number of images. Cooking over a wood fire, sleeping under the stars, hunting and fishing became their everyday life and an enabling environment for visual experiments. The responses were varied, from still images to moving images, with some directly depicting contemporary delirious camping, while others flirt with historical reminiscences of the camps of the Great War. But one thing all works have in common is an offbeat sense of humour. During Paris Photo, the outcome is presented as an installation in an unusual place in an urban setting, Les Voûtes. After the one-week workshop in Switzerland all students worked with Thomas Mailaender on the design and set-up of the exhibition. The installation was a week of full immersion for the students, as they lived in the exhibition while setting it up. The images are displayed in a raw environment, a sort of village or makeshift camp. All this allowed them to go beyond the process of taking shots to tackle the issue of the production and exhibition of these images to the public. The exhibition is accompanied by a duotone catalogue-newspaper produced by the students and printed at ECAL. Exhibition Gavillet & Rust,25.09–11.10.2014,Gallery l elac, Renens Du 26 septembre au 11 octobre 2014 à la Galerie l elac à Renens, l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne présente une exposition conçue et réalisée par Gavillet & Rust avec Vincent Devaud à partir de la collection du FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (France). Images HD «A l invitation du FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, le studio de design graphique Gavillet & Rust, responsable depuis 2008 de l identité graphique du FRAC, a conçu un dispositif inédit de présentation de sa collection. «Quel regard porter sur une collection? Selon quel axe l aborder? Thématique? Chronologique? Les possibilités sont nombreuses, et chacune d elles raconte une histoire particulière. Les membres du studio de design graphique Gavillet & Rust, invités à écrire leur propre récit, ont abordé la question d une manière assez singulière, en appliquant à la collection les codes et systèmes qu ils manient dans leur pratique quotidienne du graphisme. Ainsi, plutôt que de s atteler à un display «classique» d œuvres, c est à la représentation de celles-ci qu ils se sont intéressés. Un parti pris qui fait notamment écho au célèbre «Ceci n est pas une pipe» de Magritte. Une vingtaine de visuels ont été sélectionnés, permettant de multiples combinaisons possibles via un étonnant jeu d impressions et de surimpressions en sérigraphie. Aucune irrévérence dans cet exercice, plutôt un plaisir certain à s emparer d images au «potentiel graphique» indéniable, à les superposer, les confronter, les recadrer, voire les manipuler. La proposition de Gavillet & Rust mêle par ailleurs deux approches a priori radicalement antinomiques que sont le temps de l exposition et celui de la communication visuelle. Le premier laisse la possibilité de se familiariser à l œuvre, de l appréhender dans un contexte spécifique, pensé pour lui rendre justice au mieux. Le second, en revanche, nécessite un impact immédiat, afin de marquer les esprits dans un environnement surchargé de signes. Les graphistes sont ici parvenus à trouver un rare équilibre entre ces deux temporalités. Si les affiches éditées – d un format de 120 x 176 cm, fidèle au placard urbain à la française – sont efficaces et immédiatement séduisantes, elles restent toutefois énigmatiques, demandant un second temps de lecture pour se dévoiler dans leur entièreté. Et les questions d affleurer: quel rapport entre le portrait des deux trublions britanniques Gilbert & George réalisé par Gérard Rondeau et les peintures pop de Michel Majerus? Comment la Joconde de Filliou dialogue-t-elle avec les expérimentations photographiques de James Welling? Les clichés de Robert Adams peuvent-ils s accommoder des appropriations de Raymond Hains? Artist residency in Mexico City for three students of the Master in Fine Arts Lors de la cérémonie des diplômes Bachelor et Master qui aura lieu fin juin, l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne remettra à trois étudiants de 1re et 2e années du Master Arts Visuels les «clés» d une résidence d artistes à Mexico City. Pendant deux mois cet été, Julien Berberat (né en 1988 à Delémont), Julien Gremaud (né en 1984 à Morges) et Emanuele Marcuccio (né en 1987 à Schio, Italie) participeront ainsi à SOMA Summer, un programme de workshops et de visites au coeur de la capitale mexicaine SOMA est un espace d art contemporain qui vise à s imposer comme un contrepoint dynamique aux écoles, musées et galeries du Mexique. Il est né à l initiative d un groupe d artistes mexicains qui, en s appuyant sur les expériences des précédentes espaces d art, comme La Panadería et Temístoclés 44, ont uni leurs forces pour créer une plateforme unique au sein de la scène culturelle. La mission de SOMA est d encourager le dialogue, la collaboration et même la confrontation entre artistes et producteurs culturels de différents horizons et générations. Wool is a material that is part of our everyday lives. It has a particular meaning to everybody without having any specific shape or colour. Our goal during this workshop week was to give shape to those references we all have towards this product. It started without any preconceived idea on what the end result would look like. By experimenting and playing around with the different states of this material, the students designed some unexpected installations. Each one of them acts like a little story, using movement as a way to express itself. La Foncière et l ECAL présentent un livre et les résultats d un concours,19.05.2014,Auditorium Leenaards, ECAL En septembre 2013, La Foncière, Fonds de placements immobiliers de droit suisse, et l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne ont initié un concours photographique et la réalisation d un livre conjoint. Jeudi 15 mai 2014 à l ECAL, les fruits de cette collaboration ont révélé toutes leurs saveurs grâce à la remise de quatre prix à des étudiants du Bachelor Photographie, ainsi que par la publication d un ouvrage photographique de 130 pages intitulé «L œil et la pierre». «Pour célébrer notre 60e anniversaire, il nous paraissait intéressant de donner la parole à des étudiants en photographie d une école d art renommée, et de leur offrir l opportunité de poser un regard frais et novateur sur le parc immobilier de La Foncière. Nous avons alors contacté l ECAL et son directeur Alexis Georgacopoulos au début de l été 2013, afin de proposer un véritable partenariat qu ils ont accepté de manière très spontanée», explique Arnaud de Jamblinne, Directeur général de La Foncière. Dès lors, cette collaboration s est orientée vers deux axes forts: la mise en place d un concours et la réalisation d un ouvrage conjoint, tous deux organisés avec les étudiants de 3e année du Bachelor Photographie. Pour le professeur en charge de ce double projet, Nicolas Faure: «l énoncé était particulièrement clair: une carte blanche à tous les élèves pour traiter 200 objets. La seule contrainte était de scénariser un ou des immeubles du parc immobilier de La Foncière dans leurs travaux. Chacun devait apporter son regard, sa culture, ses ressentis, ses envies, sa vision, son savoir-faire pour représenter ces immeubles insérés au cœur du tissu urbain de la Suisse romande.» Les seize étudiants ont travaillé pendant quatre mois, de septembre 2013 à janvier 2014, produisant ainsi de nombreuses images soumises à un jury au début de l année. Ce jury comprenait Sam Stourdzé, directeur du Musée de l Elysée à Lausanne, Luc Debraine, responsable de la rubrique Culture au journal L Hebdo et Arnaud de Jamblinne, directeur général de La Foncière. Vincent Jacquier, responsable de la Communication Visuelle à l ECAL, et Milo Keller, responsable du Bachelor Photographie, ont accompagné le déroulement des travaux du jury en qualité d observateurs. Workshop NUS Singapore Hawker Centre Singapore Summer University May 2014 This Summer University workshop on the Hawker Centre is a collaboration between the Division of Industrial Design, National University of Singapore and the ECAL / University of Art and Design Lausanne, Switzerland. Hawker Centres are traditional dinning halls where Singaporean gather to eat together daily. More than a restaurant, these places are a real melting pot of cultures in Singapore, mainly between the Chinese, Malays and Indians. The aim of the workshop was to immerse the students for one week in the heart of Singapore s cosmopolitan culture through the Hawker Centres. ECAL and NUS students worked together and designed objects such as utensils, tableware packagings or signage that improves the experience of customers and cooks. All the prototypes have been produced in the NUS « prototyping lab ». This workshop allowed the students from both universities to share their know-how in the field of industrial design. The result of this research reflects a wide variety of design solutions that improves Hawker Centres in Singapore.
Exhibition "La part du dessin" by Pierre Charpin,01.05–05.06.2014,Gallery l elac, Renens From 1st May to 5th June 2014 at the l elac Gallery in Renens, ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne presents “Pierre Charpin – la part du dessin”. The French designer exhibits some hundred drawings on various media (paper, tarpaulin...). The exhibition is complemented by a 160-page monograph published by JRP | Ringier and a special serigraphy made for the occasion. “If you look closely at the essential purity of objects designed by Pierre Charpin, you will notice a form of discretion, or even frailty. This delicacy is characteristic of a presence that beckons to us rather than pose as a sign. This “poetic” trait in his work is contributed by drawing. Indeed, for Pierre Charpin, drawing has never been just a step in the object production process. It is a practice in its own right which, on the one hand, singles out his signature and, on the other, reflects a relationship more innate to the form. This is why in recent years the corpus of his work includes – along with sketches of objects finalised upon production – “drawings of drawings”. Produced in large formats, these aspire to no further reality than their own. In series of four, of three or sometimes alone, these drawings provide the opportunity of a direct and immediate approach to the world of forms, in line with his artistic training. For it is first and foremost through drawing that a world emerges, appearing before us. Drawing acquires poetic power through the simple economy of its means – a pencil, a surface – and its desire to bring forth the form. Poiesis, in ancient Greek, tells of the creation of a world… by the power of the gods, by the hand of man. Free from the constraints of production, without any other purpose than that imposed by their own momentum, the forms drawn by Pierre Charpin unfold in playful freedom. This is a search, a journey of hand and thought towards a form that is not yet clear, although he may perhaps glimpse it. By endless repetitions of the same gesture, by chromatic variations on the same line or the same point, this tension becomes a plastic strength, an inner dynamism which involves the viewer s eye in the emergence of form. Since the early 1990s he has devoted himself to designing furniture and objects. He lives and works at Ivry-sur-Seine, near Paris. His practice develops centered on experimental projects – in particular ones conducted with the Centre international de recherche sur le verre et les arts plastiques (CIRVA) from 1998 to 2001 or the Centre de recherche sur les arts du feu et de la terre (CRAFT) between 2003 and 2005 – and in the course of his collaborations with renowned manufacturers such as Alessi, Cristallerie de Saint-Louis, Ligne Roset, Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, Montina, Pamar, Tectona, Venini, The Wrong Shop, and Zanotta Edizioni. In 2004 Pierre Charpin was the winner of the international competition for the design of the Eau de Paris carafe, produced in a run of 10,000. He also acts as scenographer for his own exhibitions (at the MUDAC and Grand-Hornu Images) and for themed exhibitions such as Les Sixties mode d emploi (Musée de la Mode et du textile, Paris), Mobiboom (Les Arts Décoratifs, Paris) and Quali Cose Siamo, the third Design Museum Triennial (Milan), organized in 2010 by Alessandro Mendini. Since 2005, after a first solo exhibition of his work in 1999, the Galerie kreo (Paris) has the exclusive right to produce limited editions of his pieces, presented at solo exhibitions: Platform in 2006, All aperto in 2008, 8 1/2 in 2009 and Ignotus Nomen in 2011. Two students in photography awarded at Hyères A l issue de la 29e édition du Festival international de mode & de photographie qui se tenait à la Villa Noailles à Hyères, deux travaux réalisés à l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne ont été primés. Ainsi, Orianne Lopes (née en 1989 à Villeurbanne), diplômée du Bachelor Photographie en 2013, a obtenu avec son travail de fin d études la «Dotation School of Visual Arts» qui lui offre une place dans la promotion Photo Global 2014-2015 de la prestigieuse école new-yorkaise. Quant à Marie Rime (née en 1989 à Fribourg), actuellement étudiante en 3e année du Bachelor Photographie, elle a été saluée par le «Prix public photographie/Ville d Hyères». Le jury était composé de: Steve Hiett, photographe est le Président du Jury Photographie de cette 29e édition du Festival de Hyères. L exposition «Low-Tech Factory» au Salon Prim Vert à Martigny,24–27.04.2014,CERM, Martigny A l occasion du Salon Prim Vert (le Salon des tendances printanières) qui se tient au CERM à Martigny du 24 au 27 avril 2014, l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne est heureuse de présenter l exposition «Low-Tech Factory», une sélection de machines conçues par des étudiants du Bachelor en Design Industriel et de Produit lors d un workshop mené par les designers Chris Kabel et Tomás Král. Il a été demandé aux étudiants de réfléchir à la valorisation du processus de fabrication d un objet, allant de la machine au produit fini. Ils ont ainsi expérimenté des principes de mise en forme simples et astucieux tels que le moulage, le thermoformage ou le tricotage, afin d obtenir des produits finis. « Low-Tech Factory » aborde le thème de l autoproduction chère aux designers, en regroupant quatre machines ludiques qui produisent pendant toute la durée de l exposition des bonnets, des sacs, des lampes et même du pop-corn! Une explosion qui se déroule habituellement en masse est ici isolée pour profiter du spectacle. La satisfaction est à la fois visuelle et gastronomique. Elle offre à son utilisateur des moments de détente productifs. Le mouvement de va-et-vient de ce fauteuil tricote des bonnets pour l hiver sans faire le moindre effort. Stamp (Vidéo: https://vimeo.com/52586355) ECAL/Anaïs Benoit Dignac, Arthur Didier, Edrris Gaaloul Stamp est une ligne de production qui transforme de simples treillis plastiques en lampes baladeuses. Les étapes de fabrication sont effectuées le long d un rail : le plastique est chauffé puis mis en forme et enfin serti autour d une ampoule économique. Le résultat de cette production ingénieuse : une lampe baladeuse munie d un abat-jour graphique et léger. Swing (Vidéo: https://vimeo.com/52584606) ECAL/Léonard Golay, Camille Rein Swing est un emporte-pièce géant qui transforme des morceaux de bâches élastiques en sacs ajourés qui se déploient. La production s effectue grâce au poids de l utilisateur qui exerce un mouvement circulaire. Un geste de production qui s apparente à un mouvement de danse. Consécration de l ECAL lors du palmarès des «Plus beaux livres suisses 2013» Le palmarès du concours des «Plus beaux livres suisses» organisé par l Office fédéral de la culture (OFC) est une véritable consécration pour le Bachelor Design Graphique et le Master Art Direction de l ECAL, puisque onze professeurs et neuf diplômés de l ECAL ont été primés. Deux livres réalisés par l ECAL ont également été récompensés: «Atrocity Exhibition Archive Paradoxe: Déambulations dans La Foire aux atrocités» et «30 Years of Swiss Typographic Discourse in the Typografische Monatsblätter. TM RSI SGM 1960-90». A noter qu à l occasion du concours des «Best Book Design from all over the World», Diego Bontognali, professeur en Bachelor Design Graphique, est le lauréat de la Goldene Letter, soit la distinction suprême dans un concours international. Quand les photographes décodent le cliché qui se tiendra au Musée d art de Pully du 6 mars au 11 mai, un concours inédit a été organisé en collaboration avec l ECAL sur le thème du détournement du cliché par l artiste. Pendant le semestre d hiver 2013, les étudiants de Laurence Bonvin, photographe suisse de renom et enseignante à l ECAL depuis 2002, ont eu pour mission d interroger la notion d image touristique sur le territoire helvétique, du Cervin au jet d eau de Genève en passant par les Alpes et Lavaux. Les mises en forme codifiées et analogiques de ces images (cartes postales, albums, dépliants,…) ont été placées au cœur de la réflexion. Au terme de ce travail, deux lauréats ont été primés et se sont vus attribuer, pendant la durée de l exposition do you speak touriste, deux salles du musée pour la présentation de leur projet photographique. Une sélection d autres projets occupe une troisième salle. Le jury Le jury était composé de Delphine Rivier, directrice du Musée d art de Pully, Milo Keller, responsable du Bachelor Photographie de l ECAL, Sébastien Leseigneur, commissaire associé du Centre de la Photographie de Genève et Pauline Martin, historienne de l art et commissaire de la Nuit des images au Musée de l Elysée. Les lauréats Ont reçu le 1er prix ex aequo: - Thibault JOUVENT, pour son installation d images en mouvement à la facture froide et distante, exécutée avec une précision et une douceur très helvétiques. - Hadrien HÄNER, pour son installation Super 8, projetant en alternance des cartes postales du jet d eau de Genève et des timbres représentant le Cervin. En plus des deux lauréats, une sélection de travaux a particulièrement retenu l attention du jury. Exhibition «Ring Bell Twice» by John M Armleder,06–28.03.2014,Gallery l elac, Renens Du 7 mars au 4 avril 2014 à la Galerie l elac, l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne est très heureuse de présenter «Ring Bell Twice», une exposition de John M Armleder. Le mardi 11 mars à 18h dans le Studio Cinéma de l ECAL, le plasticien genevois fera également des performances inédites avec le musicien et artiste suisse Christian Marclay. Sous l impulsion de Stéphane Kropf (responsable du Bachelor Arts Visuels), John M Armleder a produit de nouvelles peintures directement dans la Galerie l elac (après une exposition organisée dans cet espace en tant qu artiste en 2003 et une autre en tant que curateur en 2007). Cette installation célèbre la transition entre le professorat de John M Armleder à l ECAL (initié par Pierre Keller en 1995) et de futures collaborations entre l ECAL et l artiste genevois. D ailleurs, en tant qu enseignant et plasticien, John M Armleder a influencé de nombreux jeunes talents issus de l ECAL, dont Valentin Carron, Philippe Decrauzat, Cyprien Gaillard ou encore David Hominal. Outre une grande pièce murale constituée de plusieurs Puddle Paintings et de rideaux disco, l exposition comporte une série de diptyques qui confronte les différentes approches de John M Armleder à la peinture sur toile, qu elle soit géométrique, en gouttes ou coulée. Au sol, des tas de matériaux de construction et d artefacts culturels tentent de créer un liant négligé à l exposition, dans un joyeux questionnement sur l utile et le futile, la précision et l organique, la fonctionnalité et le déchet. John M Armleder «Fondateur en 1969 à Genève, avec d autres artistes proches de Fluxus, du groupe Ecart et de la galerie du même nom, John M Armleder (né à Genève en 1948) a développé une œuvre incroyablement subtile et complexe. Face au Cervin et aux pyramides de Gizeh, entre voyage imaginaire et réalité fantasmée, les artistes nous suggèrent que le regard touristique ne se réduit pas à quelques clichés.L exposition associe des créateurs confirmés, comme Nicolas Savary ou Adrien Missika, mais aussi des artistes en devenir pour mieux questionner les pratiques et les stéréotypes visuels solidementancrés chez les touristes que nous sommes.Concours ECALDans le cadre de l exposition do you speak touriste ? Quand les photographes décodent le cliché qui se tiendra au Musée d art de Pully du 6 mars au 11 mai, un concours inédit a été organisé en collaboration avec l ECAL sur le thème du détournement du cliché par l artiste.Pendant le semestre d hiver 2013, les étudiants de Laurence Bonvin, photographe suisse de renom et enseignante à l ECAL depuis 2002, ont eu pour mission d interroger la notion d image touristique sur le territoire helvétique, du Cervin au jet d eau de Genève en passant par les Alpes et Lavaux. Les mises en forme codifiées et analogiques de ces images (cartes postales, albums, dépliants,…) ont été placées au cœur de la réflexion.Au terme de ce travail, deux lauréats ont été primés et se sont vus attribuer, pendant la durée de l expositiondo you speak touriste, deux salles du musée pour la présentation de leur projet photographique. Une sélection d autres projets occupe une troisième salle.Le juryLe jury était composé de Delphine Rivier, directrice du Musée d art de Pully, Milo Keller, responsable du Bachelor Photographie de l ECAL, Sébastien Leseigneur, commissaire associé du Centre de la Photographie de Genève et Pauline Martin, historienne de l art et commissaire de la Nuit des images au Musée de l Elysée.Les lauréatsOnt reçu le 1er prix ex aequo:- Thibault JOUVENT, pour son installation d images en mouvement à la facture froide et distante, exécutée avec une précision et une douceur très helvétiques.- Hadrien HÄNER, pour son installation Super 8, projetant en alternance des cartes postales du jet d eau de Genève et des timbres représentant le Cervin.En plus des deux lauréats, une sélection de travaux a particulièrement retenu l attention du jury. Portraits courts réalisés par les étudiants de l ECAL En salle du 17 février au 15 mars 2014 La 1re année du Bachelor Cinéma de l ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne pose un regard attentif, tendre, curieux, parfois espiègle sur ce qui constitue le fondement de l identité vaudoise et valaisanne. Patronne de bistrot, artiste, guérisseur, commerçant, étudiant, étranger ou amoureux du Léman, c est tout un microcosme du quotidien qui s exprime via le regard de jeunes cinéastes en devenir. Audrey Bersier, Maxime Descloux, Alexandre Frager, Elie Grappe, Anaëlle Morf, Vincent Willommet et Timothée Zurbuchen forment la classe de 1re année Bachelor Cinéma de l ECAL. One minute repeater On the occasion of the 24th edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), which took place in Geneva from 20th to 24th January 2014, the ECAL/ University of Art & Design Lausanne created, for watchmaker Vacheron Constantin, a special installation named “The Minute Repeater”. This installation is the result of a research work directed at ECAL by Vincent Jacquier, Head of Visual Communication Department, and Alain Bellet, Head of Bachelor Media & Interaction Design. This research, which brings together students from both Bachelor in Media & Interaction Design and Industrial Design, permitted to develop a stand for the watchmaker based in Geneva. Not less than 12 screens reveal the oneiric sense of the Calibre 1731 of Vacheron Constantin. Thank to the animations unveiled on each screen by the magic of magnifying glasses, ECAL proposes its interpretation of this minute repeater movement, known to be the flattest on the market.
