Usefulless Project
Usefulless

Usefulless In his essay,  Theory of Metamorphosis , philosopher Emanuele Coccia celebrates the “power of caterpillars” allowing them to transition from one existence to another without having to die first nor being born again. The caterpillar thus in its full autonomy shakes up the natural order of things. This in-between state materializes in the cocoon, an intermediate yet complete stage, totalizing more than the sum of two halves. The cocoon is a circumscribed territory which has no limits, not completely life, not totally death. This solipsistic space is plural, it is host to the liquid form, embracing simultaneity and different realities. The artworks presented here echo the principle of transition which govern this exhibition. Through their relationship to space or how they question the function of an art object, through the staging of intimacy, these works identify a limit and almost mechanically, ask what lies beyond. Usefulless  is a quality specific to useful objects that are nowhere to be found when needed. Opening a middle way through the binary definition  useful/useless , the term  usefulless  defines a transitional state of utility. Here inside the exhibition, the influence of context reveals the intrinsic ambivalence of objects, useful only based on a need, at a given time, for something or to someone.  Usefulless  opens a dialogue between the works of the students of the Master Fine Arts at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne and pieces from artists whose respective practices explore similar avenues. "Workbays Village" exhibition in collaboration with Vitra Event
"Workbays Village" exhibition in collaboration with Vitra

"Workbays Village" exhibition in collaboration with Vitra,02.10–21.11.2019,Fire Station, Vitra Campus, Weil am Rhein Following a workshop led by Camille Blin and Erwan Bouroullec in 2017, Master Product Design students from ECAL present “Workbays Village”, a project inspired by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec s customizable office partitioning systems manufactured by Vitra. Introduction by Erwan Bouroullec and opening reception on Tuesday 1 October 2019, from 6pm to 8pm at the Fire Station on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. The exhibition will be open from 2 October to 21 November 2019, from Monday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm. Vitra Campus, Fire Station, Zaha Hadid, 1993 Charles-Eames-Strasse 2 79576 Weil am Rhein www.vitra.com DOWNLOAD IMAGES HD DOWNLOAD POSTER With Workbays, which they created for Vitra a few years ago, the French designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, who regularly collaborate with ECAL, have developed a micro-architectural system that redefines the working environment and breaks with the typical rigid planning structure of offices. Thus Workbays create distinct areas where individuals or groups can retreat from the general office environment to carry out specific activities. The units come equipped with everything users need: work surfaces, seating, optional storage and power connections. The structure of Workbays consists of slim aluminium profiles and organically shaped wall elements made of pressed polyester felt. “The ECAL students suggested we devised new typologies for these working environments, adding novel features and supplying them with new accessories”, says Camille Blin, the designer and professor who headed the project. So the Master Product Design students worked for a full semester under the watchful eye of Erwan Bouroullec and invented new structures that call to mind Japanese 0capsule hotels, a prototyping workshop, a gym, a bar, a garden or a resting area. For each of these spaces, the students created specific and original objects, ranging from Bluetooth loudspeakers to miniature lamps reminiscent of stadium ones, desk pads-cum-bags, a semi-standing stool, a cable-covering carpet, in & out wastepaper baskets, multi socket trays or a desk partition with vases and drawing pins. A 3D animation film specifically created by TRAUM Inc. presenting these unusual Workbays can also be seen at the exhibition. Opening reception on Thursday 29 June 2017 from 6.30 pm to 21 pm at the Port des Créateurs Exhibition from 30 June to 2 July, from 10am to 6pm during the Festival. Then until 24 September, from Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 7pm. Le Port des Créateurs Place Savonnières 83000 Toulon www.villanoailles-hyeres.com www.ecal.ch www.vitra.com

Still Working Project
Still Working

Julietta Korbel – Still Working The guardian of a factory doomed to be demolished is faced with the end of his universe… Fiction / 17 min Synopsis In an abandoned factory destined to be demolished, Pavel s routine, the guardian, is disturbed by the arrival of a young engineer who discovers an unusual electric activity, a running turbine. Pavel will be faced with the imminent disappearance of the factory and with the end of his universe… Comment Julietta fell in love with an abandoned factory. A ruined setting, gigantic and inanimate, but which she inhabited from her first visit. The script was written on this particular relationship to the setting, intimate and organic. The characters came in the wake of this, as if out of this clay. The guard Pavel, his marked face, his massive and graceful dog. And the presence of the factory that oozes in all the shots, digs its imprint in time and space. The castle and its guardian. A body trapped in a larger body. A void, a collapse that probes another. Still Working, Julietta Korbel s film, is at once a portrait, a fable and a disturbing, haunted physical experience. Made of mystery, meaning and sensuality. David Lynch said that the hardest thing about making a film is falling in love with a story. That s what happened here. Thomas Cailley / Screenwritter, director

Dans ces rues / These streets will never look the same

Léonard Vuilleumier – Dans ces rues / These streets will never look the same Leandre goes looking for a stranger named Tristan in order to give him some bad news about a mutual friend. Fiction / 23 min Leandre goes looking for a stranger named Tristan in order to give him some bad news about a mutual friend. However, when they meet, Leandre fails to deliver his message, which makes Tristan believe that they met by pure chance. He then puts Leandre to the test by making him collect signatures in the streets with him. As time,  goes by, Leandre and Tristan get to tame each other and look at each other. They form a bond, but the true nature of what links them to the same boy remains ambiguous. Comment It is with modesty and a certain elegance that Léonard Vuilleumier takes up the theme of mourning and desire. An Eros and Thanatos in the streets of Lausanne. A sweet labyrinth where men hide the truths, look for encounters, flirt with the unspoken, find peace in the flesh. Léonard Vuilleumier fully committed himself to his theme by placing the actor at the center of his research, rethinking the rhythm and the filmic writing according to this character and his wandering.  It is with feverishness but determination and belief that he delivers with These streets will never look the same a film that looks like him. Necessarily. Elsa Amiel, director and 1st assistant director

"Ring my Bell" at Design Biennale Zürich,29.08–01.09.2019,Design Biennale Zürich On the occasion of the Design Biennale Zürich from 29 August to 1st September 2019, ECAL showcases “Ring my Bell”, an offbeat collection of interactive doorbells, presented last April at the Milan Design Week. www.ecal-ringmybell.ch HD Images Brochure with explanations Video on vimeo DONG! TRRRRRR! Or maybe even GLING! Or BLING!, MHHHH! And sometimes even BRAOUM! ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne presents an offbeat collection of interactive doorbells developed by first-year Bachelor Industrial Design students, under the joint guidance of Stéphane Halmaï-Voisard, Head of Bachelor Industrial Design, and Mathieu Rivier, a Bachelor Media & Interaction Design graduate. This project is part of the “Sound & Vision” exhibition, shown for the first time, in collaboration with EPFL+ECAL Lab, at the 2019 Milan International Furniture Fair. Sound and object design are two notions that industrial designers rarely have the opportunity to combine. Nevertheless, most everyday objects potentially produce sounds. Just pull up a chair, open or close a drawer or even flip a switch and you will create sound. What do all these actions have in common? Movement, friction and interaction which draw on the basic laws of physics to create tones. With this in mind, the students have offered a fresh and original take on an everyday object, one that is unremarkable yet never silent—the doorbell. They have designed a range of mechanical and electrical doorbells that offer a unique, sometimes even thunderous, sound experience. Well-known chimes step aside and are replaced by a curious metallophone triggered by a punch card reminiscent of traditional mechanical music boxes. The former door knocker is now amplified by a vibrant dong! The familiar buzzer has been replaced by an energetic drum roll. The everyday doorbell has been replaced by a curious device that makes a sound like thunder. At last, where you might expect a ding-dong, there is now a stertorous mooing mhhhh! These are just some of the contraptions displayed. Come in and ring! Schedule Thursday (Opening Night): 17:00–21:00 Friday & Saturday: 12:00–21:00 Sunday: 12:00–19:00 Creative Lab Werkstadt Zürich www.designbiennalezurich.ch As part of the Swiss Game Design Lounge, two ECAL Bachelor Media and Interaction Design graduates will also present several projects initiated at ECAL during their studies. Aural Practices in Visual Arts Project
Aural Practices in Visual Arts

Aural Practices in Visual Arts The project is an investigation into the creative process of visual art through the concept of aurality, which explores sound, listening and auditory perception from a cultural perspective. It is about stepping beyond object culture to look at listening as part of the broader and richer cultural approach developed by studying the case of ECAL, its (human) actors and (non-human) agents. The aim of the project is to better integrate the issue of sound and listening in transmitting knowledge of art and artistic practices and to give students a starting point on which to develop critical and reflexive listening in their work. The results show in particular how actors influence sounds at ECAL. These acts of meaningful listening were observable thanks to a methodology involving artistic interventions using sound, in the form of disturbances of daily life in the school. The way in which the actors repair disturbances helps describe shared perceptions in action. Breaching experiments have given a detailed description of how the actors continuously define the meaning of the sounds or the absence of careful listening, depending on the interaction and the place in the school. The successive experiments, by confirming or diverging from the results of the one before, refine methods of privatising spaces by using audio equipment at the place of the group work. In short, the study shows the fertile ambivalence whereby no school sound is ever just a school sound. They are only sounds, of course, but the meaning that the actors attribute to them define part of the institution at any given moment.Main applicantsECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (project leader) (professor) Anna Harris, Université de Maastricht (expert) Philippe Sormani, Institut Suisse de Rome, Université de Lausanne (expert)Visiting lecturersAmy Cimini, Bill DietzPeriodfebruary 2018 – july 2019Supported byECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne Strategic fund of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO RCDAV) Ville de RenensArtistsKevin Drumm, Christina Kubisch, Scott Arford, Randy H. Nous, Fabrice Gorgerat Project
Nous, Fabrice Gorgerat

Pauline Perret – Nous, Fabrice Gorgerat My graduating piece is a graphic transcription of a contemporary play. Nous , a play by Fabrice Gorgerat, was performed for the first time in February 2019.  The play recalls a gun shooting that took place in 2016 at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, and questions everyone s role in such tragedies. The graphic direction aims to be as close as possible to the message and feelings  that the author wanted to convey. Each scene represents a way of approaching this kind of event: actively, emphatically, passively or neutrally, and is presented in a self-contained object. ECAL x Bloc studios: Rational Balance Collection,06–09.06.2019,EDIT Napoli ECAL x Bloc studios: Rational Balance Collection On the occasion of EDIT Napoli from 6 to 9 June 2019, ECAL and Bloc studios present a collection of projects by BA Industrial Design students. IMAGES HD Marble connotes weight, stability and robustness, and is a quintessentially noble material. In light of this, what kind of objects are able to take full advantage of these properties? How can the sensations of balance or weight be fully expressed, while respecting the innate qualities and limits of this substance? This was the question that ECAL /University of Art and Design Lausanne Industrial Design Bachelor s students addressed in 2016 at a workshop led by Swiss designers Joséphine Choquet and Virgile Thévoz. This collection has been jointly developed over recent years by Bloc studios and ECAL, and comprises a selection of objects that focus on the rational balance between materials and proportions – playful ball-joint mirrors, punk marble plates pierced through with steel, marble vases in tension with aluminium, minimal tub plugs and mesmerising wedged vases. Aesthetics of Sustainability Project
Aesthetics of Sustainability

Aesthetics of Sustainability Aesthetics of Sustainability aims to explore and define the aesthetics of a new generation of sustainable materials. Sustainability is one of the most important topics of the 21st century. Design, as a discipline of innovation, must play a leading role in optimising the environmental impact of all by-products and processes in the production of designed goods. All too often, most people take a stereotypical view of “sustainable products”. They are often associated with dirty colours and unpleasant aesthetics, owing to the use of second-grade, recycled, “primitive”, natural or non-processed materials. Furthermore, they are usually associated with higher prices or inferior quality. Aesthetics of Sustainability aims to explore and define the aesthetics of a new generation of sustainable materials. The goals of the project are to push boundaries, explore aesthetics and define a contemporary language of sustainable materials and products through a systematic process of investigation, experimentation, creation and development within the context of product design. The low impact of products is not only necessary, but it is also about to become a unique selling point for manufacturers. The tipping point when eco-friendly materials become more easily available and financially competitive on a larger scale will soon be reached. The outcome of the project is a series of 14 dossiers on the explored materials as well as mock-ups and prototypes of the resulting products. The project offers a future generation of designers an array of operational tools and knowledge which explain how to discover, analyse and process seminal materials, how to work best with their qualities and how to turn them into functional yet aesthetically intriguing objects.Main applicant sECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (project leader)Research team (senior researcher) (professor) (professor) (research assistant) (research assistant) (photographer) (photographer)Visiting lecturersYves Corminboeuf, Alexandre Echasseriau, Adam Fairweather, Beat Karrer, Chris Lefteri, Yves Leterrier, Mieke Meijer, Axel Norlander, Martin PostlerStudents1st-year MA students in Product Design, ECAL, class of 2018-2019: , , , , , , , ,, , , , , Periodseptember 2017 – july 2019Supported byECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne Strategic fund of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO RCDAV)DisseminationPublication Thilo Alex Brunner, Aesthetics of sustainability. Opening: Every day, from 10am to 6pm Vitra Design Museum Charles-Eames-Str. 2 D-79576 Weil am Rhein www.design-museum.de In partnership with the 3D printing company Formlabs, ECAL Master Product Design students present a range of innovative everyday life objects, produced through a print farm within the exhibition and sold directly on site. Projects from ECAL faculty and alumni are also available. The concept was imagined by Camille Blin, head of the Master Product Design, and Christophe Guberan, ECAL tutor. HD Images Brochure with explanations ECAL has turned Spazio Orso 16, a 17th century Milanese palazzo, into a contemporary production site and retail shop inspired by a new vision of digital manufacturing. Lately, most of the product design research into 3D printing has been focusing on new technologies and the shapes they can generate. The idea of this project is to present digital manufacturing as an industrial production tool thanks to a print farm composed of numerous machines printing the same pieces simultaneously. “ECAL Digital Market” offers functional and well-designed everyday objects, created by Master Product Design students as well as by a selection of ECAL-related designers (faculty members and alumni). The project looks into the possibilities of production on demand. It examines the changing environment of manufacturing processes, it emphasizes how fast and transparent today s design industry could become, and experiments with new design details that are too intricate to achieve with traditional manufacturing techniques. Finally, “ECAL Digital Market” highlights the role of the designer in this new production cycle. Thanks to the 3D printers and know-how provided by Formlabs, a large variety of objects such as combs, tape dispensers, mechanical pencils, shoehorns, coat hooks, scissors, spinning tops, shelves and many more are produced and sold on site by the students. The digital files of the objects can also be purchased online: www.ecal-digital-market.ch Press preview Monday 16 April, 4 pm – 6 pm Opening hours Tuesday 17 April – Saturday 21 April, 11 am – 8 pm Sunday 22 April, 11 am – 4 pm Spazio Orso 16 Via dell Orso 16 20121 Milano

ECAL x MacGuffin,02–26.05.2019,Arles + Istanbul Biennial Design "A School of Schools: Design as Learning" is a multi-platform knowledge-based exhibition that uses, tests, and revises a variety of educational strategies UPDATE: "A School of Schools: Design as Learning" is a multi-platform knowledge-based exhibition that uses, tests, and revises a variety of educational strategies. Curated by Jan Boelen — co-founding artistic director of the research program Atelier Luma — with Vera Sacchetti and Nadine Botha for the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Cultureand Arts, it presents the work of over 90 artists and designers from around the world. Among these, ECAL presents "ECAL x MacGuffin (read below). A School of Schools is presented at Luma Arles as part of the Guest Program of Luma Days #3,a yearly forum of art and ideas, which takes place in Arles from May 22to 25, 2019, and presents public events, conferences, professional workshops, displays and art installations. This year, the topic of the forum is: “TOGETHER, a declaration of inter- dependence”. From 02/05/2019 to 26/05/2019 Parc des Ateliers, 45 chemin des Minimes, 13200 Arles, France www.luma-arles.org/fr/articles/school-of-schools Can a magazine be a design school? Or a design school a magazine? This autumn, MacGuffin and Swiss art and design school ECAL present the results of their collaboration during the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial, which is all about design as learning, and learning as design. The exhibition explores the ways in which the two can enrich the other. Last autumn, Dutch product designer Chris Kabel tutored Bachelor Industrial Design students at ECAL in collaboration with design magazine MacGuffin. The students used the magazine s editorial model as a methodology to study the use of everyday things and to design objects derived from them. They modelled their approach on the way the magazine themes its issues, and chose MacGuffins like The Roof, The Shade, The Wheel, The Ruler, The Lock and The Socle as the focus of their investigations. Their research resulted in a range of observational studies, contextual reportages and visual essays on the materiality of the objects, to be used as a basis for designing new objects. The outcome is an exciting collection of narratives and objects that explore The Life of Things, presented in the form of a 3D magazine. From Umbrella Stories and Wheel Stoppers to Real-Life Rulers and a platform for the Bottom of Things. 22 September – 4 November 2018. "U-Joints" exhibition

"U-Joints" exhibition,01–29.05.2019,Gallery l elac Curated by Andrea Caputo and Anniina Koivu, the "U-Joints" exhibition features the first chapter of an ongoing research initiated on the occasion of the Milan Design Week 2018. A large selection of nails, screws, rivets, bolts and nuts is shown alongside products created by international designers and a new taxonomy of basic fasteners, graphically developed by Graphic Thought Facility. Opening reception 1.05.2019, 18 h – 20 h Dates 2.05.2019 – 29.05.2019 Wednesday – Friday 13 h – 17 h Galerie l elac 5, avenue du Temple CH-1020 Renens IMAGES HD U-Joints is a research project led by Andrea Caputo and Anniina Koivu, as well as a group exhibition that explores the idea of connections in design.Initiated on the occasion of the Milan Design Week 2018, the first U-Joints exhibition was an eclectic introduction to the topic of connections. Taking a look at the multifaceted world of joints, curators Andrea Caputo and Anniina Koivu broke joints open, organised them by material and production processes, reassembled them into prototypes, and used them in real-world applications. For eight days, U-Joints brought together 919 pieces – from the most common joints to design s most innovative ones, as well as those that have had the greatest influence on contemporary design. This captivating introduction launched the U-Joints research project, which is now in the process of investigating different kinds of connections even more deeply. Ultimately, the research project s findings will be published in a large volume that examines joinery in furniture and product design. U-Joints takes a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach. Featuring technical information about joinery as well as stories and commentaries, U-Joints looks at human history through its details, and invites us to see our built environment in whole new ways. The ongoing U-Joints research is accompanied by a series of exhibitions. Each show reads like a chapter of the future book. The first chapter in this series is the current U-Joints exhibition at Galerie l elac at ECAL/University of Art & Design Lausanne. Dedicated to very basic fasteners, the exhibition features a large selection of nails, screws, rivets, bolts and nuts, alongside products created by 20 international designers and a new taxonomy diagram created just for U-Joints. Andrea Caputo says: “Within the world of ‘connections we imagine including any field of investigation, from architecture to product design to fashion. It is an extremely scalable concept, and we aim to investigate not only the fundamental constructive principles but also to conduct methodological analysis. The manufacture of the joint can coincide with an industrial, artisanal or extremely extemporaneous and experimental process.” Anniina Koivu says: “Designers appropriate standard connectors; they assemble and personalise them. Sometimes, they invent new joinery from scratch. Always, they use joints to create unique objects. But because a joint is often invisible, hidden elegantly inside an object, it can pass by unnoticed. U-Joints seeks to change this.” The Taxonomy of Joints Taxonomy is the science of describing, identifying, naming and classifying organisms. The Taxonomy of Joints traces the macrocosm of joinery in furniture and product design today. Starting from the most common production techniques, the structure creates a genealogical tree that is divided into four families, twenty subfamilies and a still-to-be-defined number of individual joints. The taxonomy exhibited here looks at basic fasteners: nails, screws, rivets, bolts and nuts, in 192 of their most common examples. Much like that of an organism, The Taxonomy of Joints can grow or change its form: it is a work in progress. The taxonomy on display was graphically developed by British studio Graphic Thought Facility. ECAL & EXECAL Residences at La Becque Event
ECAL & EXECAL Residences at La Becque

ECAL & EXECAL Residences at La Becque,20.03.2019,La Becque, La Tour-de-Peilz UPDATE (20.03.19) EXECAL Residence at La Becque – Announcement of the laureates. UPDATE (20.03.19) EXECAL Residence at La Becque – Announcement of the laureates ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne is delighted to announce the laureates of the first EXECAL Residences at La Becque I Artists Residency. This initiative, part of the partnership that binds the two institutions, aims at fostering research projects and promoting excellence in art and design education. Each will be granted with a month-long residency program, between July and September 2019, with the objective to develop a project connected to their practices but also to the thematic focus of La Becque, the exploration of the intersection of nature and technology. Therefore, the jury composed of Catherine Othenin-Girard (President, EXECAL –Association des anciens étudiants et des amis de l ECAL), Luc Meier (Director, La Becque) and Alexis Georgacopoulos (Director, ECAL) selected: Aladin Borioli (BA Photography) Since 2014, Aladin Borioli has pursued his DYI research project "Apian", looking at the links between honeybees and humans, and at how both beings mould each other. Being drawn closer to the humanities, Aladin graduated in 2018 with an MA in Visual and Media Anthropology at the Freie Universität Berlin. "Apian" has been then presented in artistic contexts as well as in anthropological forms. Pauline Lemberger & Iris Andreadis (BA Industrial Design) In 2015, Pauline Lemberger co-founded “Bouchée Double”, in Brussels, a studio where she explores the culinary world at the intersection of scenography, photography, product design and illustration. She investigates cuisine through a global approach, enhanced during residencies in Japan and Mexico but also through the conceptualization of pop-up restaurants. For her part, Iris Andreadis is currently studying architecture in Paris. At the heart of her practice lays her deep fascination for building processes and structures, as well as for smart objects and their economy of means, all of which she had the chance to observe during stays in Greece and Hong Kong. Thomas Grogan (BA Industrial Design) With a background in industrial and speculative design, Thomas Grogan, based in London, has developed an artistic practice that investigates current and future social issues around emerging technologies through various artistic outputs like sculpture, installation, animation and digital platform. His work uses a visual language that is strongly influenced by corporate branding, manufacturing and product hacking. The residency program EXECAL Residence at La Becque results from the partnership between ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne and the artist residency La Becque, launched in 2018 by Fondation Françoise Siegfried-Meier and located on the shores of Lake Geneva, between Lausanne and Montreux. The first joint venture between the artist residency and an art and design school, the ECAL x La Becque initiative aims at fostering research projects and promoting excellence in art and design education. Therefore, during summer 2019, the EXECAL Residence at La Becque will offer three ECAL alumni the opportunity to each participate in a four-week residency, exploring the intersection of nature and technology, La Becque s lead thematic orientation, while benefiting from the unique infrastructure that the residency has to offer. Regardless of the discipline it is developed in, the residency project will later be integrated into a digital catalogue showcasing the EXECAL Residences at La Becque. The call for applications is open to all ECAL alumni from all disciplines having graduated at least three years before the beginning of the residency programs at La Becque in summer 2019. The call for applications for the EXECAL Residence at La Becque is now closed. The selected 2019 residents will be informed in February 2019. Workshop Mode Suisse Project
Workshop Mode Suisse

Workshop Mode Suisse lt is with great pleasure that we are presenting a selection of works by students of the Bachelor s degree courses in Photography and Graphic Design, curated by photographer Peter Puklus for Mode Suisse Edition 15. The workshop initiated by Noir Associates and carried out in November 2018, aim to produce the current Mode Suisse campaign through a interdisciplinary business-oriented youth promotion collaboration. The outcome of this workshop was so convincing that the means of communication for both Mode Suisse editions in 2019 will be implemented in cooperation with the ECAL students, beginning with work from Raphaèle Rey, Hugo Plagnard and Théo Barraud. The beginning of this fledgling collaboration is marked by the students smart approach to meeting the needs of MADE VISIBLE, whose partnership with Mode Suisse is a way of making creativity visible in unexpected ways. Work has already started on the collaboration highlights to be shown at the end of summer 2019, at Mode Suisse Edition 16. ECAL presents Loucia Carlier à Artgenève Event
ECAL presents Loucia Carlier à Artgenève

ECAL presents Loucia Carlier à Artgenève,31.01–03.02.2019,Palexpo, Geneva From 31 January to 3 February at artgenève, ECAL presents an exhibition and a magazine cofounded by Loucia Carlier, a graduate of the Bachelor (2015) and Master (2017) Fine Arts programmes. “This piece of wall is invisible, if one ignores the large fresco that takes place there. A large quantity of images and symbols are penciled, printed and embossed in it. They crossover each other, like in a medieval version of the library in Interstellar, where references to SF, since its inception, encounter various folklore traditions. The rust-colored ship, a vessel, a spacecraft, floats in the middle of the Magonia, like a suffering craft that has become a weird receptacle for phantasmagorical journeys. In the smaller formats, living rooms elements stand out, deserted by their tenants. Absurdly apocalyptic visions emerge as a backdrop.” Klima is a print magazine which gives a voice to creative, singular and conscious individuals by relating art, activism and academia. From 31 January to 3 February 2019, from noon to 8 pm (except Thursday 7 pm) - Stand D11 artgenève Palexpo Route François-Peyrot 30 1218 Le Grand-Saconnex/Genève http://www.artgeneve.ch http://louciacarlier.com Image Andreas Lumineau
