ECAL will be showcasing its expertise at the Mapping Festival 2024, celebrating its 20th anniversary in Geneva, with a program exploring new territories in digital art.
ECAL 360 LAB
The ECAL 360 LAB takes over Syllepse, the water tank in Geneva's Jardin des Nations, to offer an artistic experience focusing on the interconnection between moving images, visual effects, rhythm and immersion. Bachelor Media & Interaction Design students present a series of immersive creations questioning representation and the place of the audience at the heart of a 360° sequence.
Creations
Captivus by Marine Dang and Jamy Herrmann
Dive Inside by Julien Caulet and Paul Dorsaz
Empty Room by Marius Parisod and Pierre Teissier
Liminial Space by Emilie Maier and Aryana Noorani
Ocytocine by Nora Fatehi and Michael Pica
These projects explore new territories in digital art. Among them, “Sazen City” stands out for its unique immersive experience, combining machine learning and collective exploration of our memories. The ECAL, through its participation in the Mapping Festival, offers an avant-garde vision of artistic creation, where the spectator becomes the actor of a universe in perpetual redefinition.
Sazen City by Tickie Bindner
Tickie Bindner's installation plunges us into the heart of our collective memory landscape. Each participant is invited to explore a territory, then send postcards that generate an imaginary, dynamic cartography. Unlike panoramas or urban views, these digital maps illustrate memories with universal emotions, introducing a new form of epistolary exchange. Inspired by Italo Calvino's “Invisible Cities”, Sazen City uses machine learning to co-create a collective territory. As it is built, this shared landscape questions the singularity of our memories and the role of artificial imagination in our digital environments.
