For Art Genève 2025, Bachelor Fine Arts students have come up with ‘Dont’ Be Happy, Worry’, a creation that grew out of a workshop given by the American artist Kenneth Goldsmith.
This collaborative project by ECAL Bachelor Fine Arts students challenges conventional perspectives on art and meaning. Inspired by an intense and thought-provoking workshop by Kenneth Goldsmith, the students explored subtle signs of life and everyday details, transforming wandering thoughts into a carpet: not as a design, but as a detour; not as a statement, but as a collection of overlooked absurdities. It’s a soft landing for stray thoughts, misplaced objects, and the kind of meaning that sneaks up on you, waiting to trip you up when you least expect it.
Kenneth Goldsmith is an American poet, artist and critic, founder of the online archive ubuweb.com and professor at University of Pennsylvania. His writing is motivated by his own 2007 manifesto “Uncreative Writing” and is often a collage of found material. He’s the author of books and critical texts, radio shows and installations and was appointed Moma’s first Poet Laureate.
