As part of the DemSCAPE-VD research project, conducted jointly by 4 schools from HES-SO (University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland) in collaboration with the municipalities of Bussigny and Yverdon-les-Bains, ECAL was commissioned to develop a different photography exhibition for each municipality.
DemSCAPE-VD is an action research project focusing on the mobility and community participation of older people living with and without dementia in their neighbourhoods. Particular attention is paid to the journeys people make on foot from their homes. Qualitative seated and mobile interviews were conducted with 33 participants.
The term DemSCAPE (Dementia-inclusive Spaces for Community Access, Participation and Engagement) comes from a project initiated in Vancouver, which was adapted for French-speaking Switzerland.
The project has four main objectives:
In order to reach both the general public and political decision-makers, ECAL organised a different photography exhibition in each municipality. Based on the interviews, Alizée Quinche, an ECAL alumna, captured eight situations in Yverdon-les-Bains through photography, which were presented in the form of panels and a 9m long photographic mural. The inclusive Ionic typeface was developed by Stephanie Wilson, an ECAL alumna, who also oversaw the graphic design.
