Margrét Johannsdóttir – Fjörður

Today, Iceland is mostly known for its long summer nights and pristine  landscapes but its nature can be a harsh mother and the people have been  making their main income from maritime throughout the years. T he culture around this shapes the society and its inhabitants. T his project is an exploration of the maritime culture in a remote fjord where the economy  decays and flourishes with this unstable resource of income. I aim to reflect  the small proud society where personal space is cherished whilst  simultaneously, limited transport and long periods of wait have created a  nostalgic solidarity.
