Synopsis

A violent event of death shatters the author in spring 2019. So she start a cinematographic necromancy calling the spectres of the past : by the means of VHS find she submerges into the Berlin family's intimate play of her childhood. An attempt of purification which passes the limites of time, language and space in order to transform a profound wound into something sublime.

Student's statement

In order to ensure a sound that was both artistically and technically appropriate for my classmates’ graduation films, I worked closely with all departments involved in the production process, scouting locations, attending rehearsals, and choosing the right equipment. I also helped develop the narrative aspects of one of these projects by adding or taking away layers of music, moods and effects to the sound editing, and then refining this complex soundscape in the mix until it fitted imperceptibly into a larger context.

Unseen This course introduces students to the creation of a seven-image series built around the theme Unseen. They will learn to combine set design, characters, and lighting to produce strong, coherent staged images. Through a practical and technical approach, the course develops their ability to conceive and manage a complete photographic project, direct models, work with natural and artificial light, and collaborate under conditions similar to professional editorial or commercial shoots. Diane Bécheras – The Sound of the Links

Inspired by the text The Camille Stories written by Donna Haraway, somewhere in the future, groups of people are organizing themselves into micro societies. The installation The Sound of the Links is a fragment of this civilization about how humans experience communication with plants in an attempt to rebuild a way of living in communion with the species that surround them. I would like to raise awareness about these imperceptible phenomena discovered by biologists, so that we can imagine a different relationship to the world than that of exploitation.

Through four fictional yet likely stories, this series take us into the intimacy and feelings of women survivors. ECAL X MHL – Photosensible

Drawing inspiration from the 19th-century archives of photographer André Schmid, second-year Bachelor’s students collaborated with the Lausanne History Museum to create an inspiring dialogue between the past and the present. For most of the students, his name was unfamiliar. Discovering his work, preserved in the collections of the Lausanne History Museum, opened up a field of exploration that was both historical and artistic. Through André Schmid’s images, a foundational chapter in Swiss photography was revealed to them. Through an immersion in the archives, they were invited to engage in a dialogue with this pioneering practice—not to cite or reproduce it, but to reimagine it, question it, and interpret it, thereby creating a tension between the origins of photography and its most contemporary developments.
