Aurélien Uberti – Owning Language

by Aurélien Uberti

The Owning Language project deals with the ownership of language through two chapters: the first chapter, Rainbow Library, facilitates learning through a catalogue of stencils for kindergarten teachers. With this tool, they are able to draw spelling hopscotches on the floor with chalk. The device enables pupils to learn and recognise digrams (combinations of two or more letters forming a sound) while associating reading with movement, thus reinforcing memorisation. The second chapter, bootleg(s), goes beyond this idea of integrating linguistic norms, giving the possibility of creating thousands of alternative spellings from the sounds of a word. The obtained results question the edges of comprehension as well as the legitimacy of norms.

Lost Records

with Ronny Hunger

Sometimes you don’t know that something has been lost — until it’s found again. How many brilliant lost, neglected and forgotten artists can there be? How many albums have been forgotten? How many have been lost? How many were rejected by labels because of political content, critical album artworks or band names? How many didn’t make it through a release and were eliminated or shelved for lack of success? How many dreams, hopes and statements were destroyed? We found 8 of these forgotten albums and worked on the record cover artworks, we tried to catch the mystical mood of these lost recordings, we tried to capture this forgotten music and tried to tell these incredible stories.
