Lélie Guiochet – Colette Colette speaks of an intimate object worn directly against the skin, and yet one we abandon without remorse: the bra. It is an object that becomes obsolete, that is not resold second-hand and that is only rarely recycled. It accompanies us only for a few years, before wearing out or becoming too small. So Colette imagines a system that adjusts over time: a bra made of separate parts, cups, underband, straps, fasteners, underwire, to assemble, replace independently, readjust and personalize. The different parts are 3D-knitted, seamless and industrially compostable. The underwire and the fasteners, for their part, are infinitely recyclable. It is no longer the bust that adapts to the object, but the object that evolves with it.
Giorgio Cassano – ZONA DI SACRIFICIO ZONA DI SACRIFICIO is a film study that fuses documentary, ethnography, and poetic montage around the Fiume Tara—Taranto s revered “miracle river.” Through a tapestry of memories, legends, visions, and personal testimonies, the film explores how this sacred source has sustained local identity and resilience, even as the encroachment of the ILVA steelworks has turned the surrounding landscape into a literal “sacrifice zone.” It is both a visual elegy to a once-pure watercourse and a poignant reflection on environmental violence, tracing the uneasy coexistence of spiritual reverence and industrial devastation in a community striving to reclaim its voice.
Maia Gavina – Space for Everything: On Love For a total democratization of the audiovisual, we must think the curatorship of the scared space of the cinema theater without considering intentionality of the possible films there projected of inhabitting that space. That will or intuition doesn t inherently grant them the right of such recognition. Materials of the most varied origins (reels, home movies, TV, YouTube videos, etc) are equally capable of detaining the enlightening qualities of a project thought cinematographically in its inception. This curatorial project reflecting on the topic of love seeks to apply this intersectional approach to its selection, putting into question the limitations of cinema as a mercantile medium.
Arnaud Tantet – : To a Glacier Global warming is transforming the landscapes around us. The melting of the ice is intensifying, affecting the thousand-year-old glaciers of Europe. The aim of this project, : To a Glacier, is to use design to bear witness to the Mont Blanc glacier. This work is based around holistic field research, in the form of objects, photos, brochures and sounds directly inspired by these disappearing giants. Developed in collaboration with glass artisans at the CIAV (Centre International d Art Verrier, in Meisenthal), the results of this project have included a number of experiments in glass, using moulds made from different materials.
Eva Manuela Rivas Bao – An Italian Story Starting from the trial of former Italian president Berlusconi, An Italian Story examines Italian-Moroccan model and aspiring sports journalist Imane Fadil. Attending the ex-president s parties, she was a key witness, confessing abuse of power and underage prostitution at his residence in Arcore, near Milan. In 2019, she died at 34, weeks after announcing her upcoming book. Berlusconi reduced the representation of women in Italy to few pixels. The book manipulates "photographic leftovers" and documentary pictures at Imane s Milan house with AI, aiming to recreate missing images that Fadil shared in court. Deconstructing "an Italian story" - famouspropaganda zine of the ex-president - to reconstruct another Italian story, a collective memory from the rubble of the "Italian failed Me Too" (2010-2023).
Nabarun Gogoi – The Swan In this short film, the photographer used a CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) avatar to address and question contemporary notions of masculinity and the complex relationship it shares with love. Inspired by the photographer s own apprehensions related to connecting with other men, the short film uncovers the subtle yet forceful indoctrination of masculine perceptions of power and control. These perceptions clash vehemently with the vulnerability that comes with loving another and the emotions it evokes, thus condemning men to an internal prison of shame and self-betrayal. Created using a gaming engine, the film aims to confront this dilemma and hints at the need to adopt a more nuanced version of masculinity - one where the self is no longer compromised to cater to the insecurities of the many.
Diego Steiner – Hybrid Modules Hybrid Modules explores the link between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary technologies through the creation of a 3D-printed modular typographic tool for use with a manual letterpress. Designed on a grid, the modular alphabet becomes a set of physical dies, which can be inserted by hand into the press. The slow, repetitive process becomes an integral part of the visual language, making visible the time and care of the gesture. A series of A2 posters promotes a series of fictitious conferences entitled “ART, CRAFT & TECHNOLOGY - Guests in Switzerland”.
ECAL × NNORMAL In September 2024, the start of the academic year at ECAL / University of Art and Design Lausanne, was highlighted by the beginning of our collaboration with trail equipment manufacturer Nnormal. At the same time, not far from our university, Kilian Jornet, the founder of the brand, gave our teams a taste for exploits by linking 82 peaks in the Alps over 4,000 meters high, shattering all records in the process. In trail running, as in photography, you need passion, discipline and endurance. Our Bachelor Photography students at ECAL are not all great sportsmen and women, but they are driven by the desire to achieve visual exploits. Trained in technical mastery, conceptual development and risk-taking, they spent three years in a field of exploration that allows them to seek out limits and chart their path. It s essential for them to get off the beaten track and find a visual language that sets them apart from the vast quantity of images that overwhelm us. ECAL has a long tradition of collaborating with top-level brands and professionals who, in addition to their own activities, wish to pass on their skills and experience to a passionate young generation looking for guidance in unfamiliar territory. Among them is Régis Tosetti, artistic director of Nnormal, who has a strong link with ECAL, where he trained for a degree in Visual Communication in 2005. Régis kicked off this collaboration with head coach Nicolas Poillot, also an art director. Nicolas forged his raw and elegant style by taking fashion towards the documentary. A guest lecturer at ECAL for several years, he has guided students tirelessly, with pragmatism and rigor, through the mapping of the brand and its visual expression. In a polluted, noisy world, saturated with superimposed stimuli, it is difficult to concentrate, to focus on a clear objective, a goal to look forward to. The opportunity offered by the collaboration between ECAL and Nnormal has encouraged a young generation of photographers to turn to the mountains. Nature is a terrain of escape, communion and adventure for an essential imagination made up of bodies and landscape. The main subject is the mediating element between these two components, the shoes that allow us to go further in this union. But there s much more than shoes in the work of Nicolas and his students: there are values of ecology, dry and wet atmospheres, solar and nocturnal lights, technical and organic textures, muscles and tense faces that achieve deliverance through their exploits. And finally, in trail running as in photography, despite sood technical and mental preparation and systematic study of the forecasts, there are unforeseen circumstances that force us to come up with improvised solutions that reveal new forms of beauty.

ECAL Lecture – Making sustainability desirable,18.09.2025,Leenaards Auditorium, ECAL ECAL presents a talk on new sustainable imaginaries with Emma Piau and Alban Mayne, questioning the role of creatives in addressing ecological and societal challenges. How can new imaginaries help shape a more sustainable future? How can they generate concrete actions? Emma Piau and Alban Mayne will open a dialogue around these questions, drawing on their combined experiences. Alban Mayne is a director and committed entrepreneur who has collaborated with companies such as Lenovo, HP, Logitech and Beauty Disrupted. He holds a Certificate in Business Sustainability Management from the University of Cambridge, an MBA in General Management from Northwood University and a BBA in Marketing from SKEMA Business School. Zufall??? Schicksal!!!,17.09–17.10.2025,Gallery l elac A collective exhibition, conceived by artist Miriam Laura Leonardi, which offers an unstable space, without a central theme or linear path, inviting visitors to wander and reflect. A Bit of School, A Bit of Snow, And It Derails... claims that art is more than just another subject taught at school. The exhibition deliberately breaks with spatial balance, avoiding a central theme or linear path. With no clear beginning or end, it invites movement, wandering, and uncertain navigation. Unlike immersive formats, the layout creates an unstable space — one that encourages reflection. Through a selection of diverse works and approaches — from artists of different generations, ECAL graduates, Swiss and international — the exhibition offers landmarks within a timeless process. These artistic positions spark doubt, raise questions, and create disorientation. Our stance? Affirming negation. Can one say “I love art” or “I hate art” — especially as an artist? And within the very context of an art school? Coincidence??? Fate!!! ECAL × OFFECCT AT Designer s Saturday,12–14.09.2025,Oslo ECAL is taking part in Designer s Saturday in Oslo with the project Sound & Vision, created in collaboration with Swedish brand Offecct. As the modern workspace and living environment trend towards open-plan designs, the need for versatile acoustic solutions have regained momentum. Offecct has teamed up with students part of Master Product Design from ECAL, led by course tutor Camille Blin, to reinterpret the acoustic room divider, an essential tool in structuring both our spaces and our ideas. Acoustics have been a steady part of Offecct s portfolio since the early 2000s, and it is time for this category to question its own versatility and its influence on the well-being of our workplaces. These projects do more than divide space: they reinterpret familiar gestures, reveal the poetry of modest materials, and offer sensitive responses to the needs of the contemporary office. Together, they form a landscape of objects that are both technical and adaptable, where every separation becomes an opportunity for expression, comfort, and reinvention of the workplace.VENUEAmbassaden Henrik Ibsens gate 48, via Løkkeveien/Hansteens gtDATES & SCHEDULEFrom 12 to 14 September 2025HEAD OF PROGRAMMEWEBSITEdesignerssaturday.noSTUDENTS, , , , , , , ASSISTANTOPENINGOffecct x ECAL: Research in Design , Head of Master Product Design Saturday at 10:30am Flokk, Drammensveien 145PARTNERSFLOKK DESIGN Marianne Sælid, Vice President, Design Managment Oscar Shu Hao Kwong, Designer, Design Managment Special Thanks To: Christian Lodgaard OFFECCT Magdalena Borowiec, Brand Manager Øystein Austad, Design Manager offecct.flokk.com

Much Faster / Much Slower – 25-26 Second-year Interaction Design students imagined and prototyped a mobile application exploring the theme “Much Faster / Much Slower.” The project examines our fascination with speed and slowness in digital interfaces, and how technology shapes our perception of time, attention, and communication. Building on this tension, students developed app concepts that propose alternative ways of communicating, consuming, or creating content, where rhythm becomes a central element of interaction design. Each project takes the form of an interactive prototype, offering a distinctive and sometimes deliberately non-immediate experience that questions our everyday digital habits. Collab ColLab is an application that encourages waste collection during events. Throughout the event, participants collect the waste around them and add it to the app. Once the collection is complete, the app helps locate a drop-off point directly within the event area. On site, users can scan the waste to sort it correctly into the appropriate bins. Each action earns points: the more waste you collect, the more points you gain. ColLab turns an ecological gesture into a fun and collective experience. Par PUZZ PUZZ is a dating app like no other. Here, users do not present themselves directly through images, but in the form of unique puzzle pieces. Each piece is built based on what the person is looking for (love, friendship, or group exchanges), as well as on answers to questions about their personality and preferences. By chatting and interacting, two users begin to form a shared puzzle, which gradually comes together and allows them to discover the person they are talking to, piece by piece. Par PULSE Pulse is a running app designed to help runners maintain a consistent pace by synchronizing their movement with music. The app encourages runners to match their stride to the tempo (BPM) of the music they choose; if the runner s pace becomes too fast or too slow, the music automatically speeds up or slows down, creating a noticeable discomfort. To restore the music to its normal playback, the runner must return to the correct tempo. Par DELAY Delay is a messaging app that allows users to send cards while choosing their delivery date. By enabling a high level of message personalization, Delay invites users to reintroduce intention and time into the messages they send. Par

Following a rigorous selection process, the ten winners are invited to produce a new work based on the theme ‘Face-to-Face . The winners works, including those by Sara De Brito Faustino and Aline Savioz, are presented in a group exhibition at LUMA Arles as part of the Rencontres de la Photographie until 5 October 2025. This exceptional visibility allows these young talents to engage with an international audience of contemporary photography enthusiasts. Exhibition From 5 July to 5 October 2025 La Lampisterie, Luma Arles prix-dior.luma.orgAlien Love Call by Aline Savioz Created in 2024, Alien Love Call draws inspiration from romantic ideals and the collective imagination shaped by 1950s cinema, 1970s design and popular culture codes, particularly those of science fiction. This project is set in a fictional and fantastical universe, where fulfilment and lightness intertwine. Composed of six images staged and shot in medium format film, the series brings to life a retro-futuristic fiction, telling a love story between two aliens. It explores nostalgia for the future, that paradoxical feeling of attachment to a time we have never known, when we projected an idealised future. Alien Love Call evokes this unique melancholy and creates a visual refuge where romance blossoms in a setting from another time, both familiar and unreal. Through the images, we follow the protagonists in the moments leading up to their meeting, until their rendezvous at the Jazz Club, animated by a caricatured trumpet player in a cinematic atmosphere. @saviozalA Home With No Roof by Sara De Brito Faustino The place where I grew up was a mixture of strangeness and familiarity. It should have been a refuge, but it was the scene of painful moments. Uncomfortable and dysfunctional, it bears the traces of traumas that I can hardly remember, except for deep scars. The only remnants are in the decor of my current flat. This project stems from that, using 1:15 scale models of my house to explore this history in a new light. By reconstructing the space in miniature, I am able to confront it with distance. These scenes become a dialogue with my traumas. The confrontation takes place through reduced objects, body sculptures and plays on scale. My flat becomes a hybrid place, somewhere between shelter and threat. The images convey the identity of a young girl in the making, growing up in imbalance. By deconstructing and reconstructing, bodies become objects, and vice versa. I am both subject and object in this space, confronting what has shaped me. Photography becomes catharsis, bringing me closer to a blurred past. A Home With No Roof questions what it means to face one s history: a silent dialogue to reconcile the intimate. The series is a face-to-face encounter with my traumas, allowing me to become a healthy adult. @colddaily
Visual Identity BA1S2 – Collector During the visual identity course with Adeline Mollard, the students had to develop an identity project promoting a collection chosen by them. Each project includes the design of a catalogue contextualising and presenting the collection, together with the design of a poster. Childhood remnants (2009–2025) By Gaspard Schlatter As part of a project exploring the notion of collection, this work focuses on Beyblade spinning tops from childhood (circa 2009), approached as relics of the past. To evoke wear, forgetting, and nostalgia, the tops are reimagined as fossils or ancient artifacts — marked by time and memory. This project inaugurates a series entitled Childhood Remnants, which reflects on memory and the passage of time through the objects of our youth. trajectoire By Camille Genoud Trajectoire is a retrospective exhibition dedicated to Swiss airmail, based on a collection of vintage letters and envelopes. Selected graphic elements — stamps, postmarks, typefaces, handwritten marks — were extracted, redrawn, and enlarged to offer a contemporary reinterpretation of these postal archives. Souvenirs aus der schweiz By Eve Gremaud Souvenirs aus der Schweiz is a visual identity for a fictive exhibition based on a collection of coffee cream lids — modest yet striking traces of a slower, now-vanished form of advertising design. Images from here and elsewhere engage in dialogue within a graphic system inspired by the collection s original method of classification, somewhere between archiving and storytelling. DUCTUS By Mathis Harmant Ductus is a fictive exhibition dedicated to paintbrushes — and above all, an invitation to engage in creative, hands-on practice guided by movement. The communication materials were developed through an analog, iterative process, where gesture directly shaped form. cherche, collecte, trie, recycle By Eloïse Guillod This project brings together a collection of used batteries, explored as traces of a bygone era and a forgotten aesthetic. Through a fragmented visual identity, it reflects on stored energy, technical language, past advertising narratives, and the question of recycling an object so quickly discarded. MAISON 1:6 By Layana Comte Maison 1:6 is a fictive fashion collection born from a very real wardrobe: a set of Barbie doll clothes kept since childhood. The project explores the relationship between human and miniature scale, playing with both the original size of the doll garments and their enlargement to fit the human body. The collection is recontextualized as a complete wardrobe, oscillating between intimate memory and a critique of overconsumption. AKTA LX By Jonas Zesiger This visual identity project was developed for a mineral collection presented during the AKTA LX event, which brings together enthusiasts and scientists around the theme of the optical identity of minerals. The graphic universe draws from visual codes found in the optical identification process — such as image processing, shapes, contrast, opacity, dispersion, exposure, and the interplay of solid and void. These elements are used to reconstruct the event s title lettering. The layout and information design are based on a grid divided into eight sections, echoing the eight visual aspects explored. Four Corners of The World By Sara Pedersoli When beer becomes a compass for adventure, it can unravel a country s oldest traditions and give insights on their pictorial history. That s how “Four Corners of The World” was born, a playful catalogue that follows the steps of an unknown beer coasters collector who traveled through German speaking countries to observe the brands , and cities history.
ECAL × OFFECCT AT 3 days of design,18–20.06.2025,Copenhagen ECAL is taking part in the 2025 edition of 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen with the project Sound & Vision, created in collaboration with Swedish brand Offecct. Together, they form a landscape of objects that are both technical and adaptable, where every separation becomes an opportunity for expression, comfort, and reinvention of the workplace.VENUEAmbassaden Henrik Ibsens gate 48, via Løkkeveien/Hansteens gtDATES & SCHEDULEFrom 18 to 20 June 2025HEAD OF PROGRAMMEWEBSITE3daysofdesign.dkSTUDENTS, , , , , , , ASSISTANTOPENING18 June at 4pmPARTNERSFLOKK DESIGN Marianne Sælid, Vice President, Design Managment Oscar Shu Hao Kwong, Designer, Design Managment Special Thanks To: Christian Lodgaard OFFECCT Magdalena Borowiec, Brand Manager Øystein Austad, Design Manager offecct.flokk.com
ECAL label for the Vaud Parliament wine To celebrate the collaboration between the three branches of government, the Vaud Parliament is unveiling its very first vintage wine – adorned with a label designed by ECAL. For the first time in the canton of Vaud, a wine of the Vaud Parliament has been bottled to celebrate the joint work of the legislative, executive and judicial branches. On this occasion, the institutions called upon the talent of ECAL s Bachelor Graphic Design and Master Type Design students to create a symbolic and contemporary label. The selected label, entitled Les Trois Portes, was designed by Léa Verboux. Its design pays tribute to the former entrance of the Parliament and its architecture, composed of three doors, while also evoking the separation of the three powers. To highlight the design, the label is printed directly onto the bottle using a digital printing process carried out by the company Univerre at its site in Bioley-Orjulaz, Vaud. This project once again illustrates ECAL s commitment to forging links with public and cultural institutions in the canton, while offering its students opportunities to bring their creativity to life through concrete projects.

Direction workshop with Patric Chiha In partnership with La Manufacture, the Cinema Dapartment invited austrian director Patric Chiha for a direction workshop destined to 3rd year students. Head of workshop: "The deepest thing about man is his skin. Although it s not its subject, this beautiful phrase by Paul Valéry speaks to me of the essence of cinema: we only film surfaces and nothing else. During the workshop, I d like to work with the students from ECAL and La Manufacture on a series of screen tests, essays, shots... a bit like what you d do during a casting. For me, a casting is not a moment of verification or testing, but of research and encounter. What can directors and actors do together? Where does this first meeting lead us? How do we approach and film the other? How can we avoid trapping them in a preconceived image, and instead liberate their multiple identities? I don t believe in directing actors, except that perhaps, in an encounter, we direct each other. I believe much more in the tools of cinema - the camera, the light, the music... - as an invitation to play, to surprise, to emotion. Over the five days of the workshop, we ll use a series of improvisations, filmed in natural or artificial light, with or without words, trusting in the mysteries of faces, the pace of bodies and the rhythms of gestures - in everything that may at first seem superficial - and without resorting to scripts, to try to reach emotions." ECAL × Images Vevey Lecture - Rineke Dijkstra,07.05.2025,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL ECAL welcomes Dutch photographer Rineke Dijkstra for a talk on her contemporary approach to portraiture. Since the early 1990s, Rineke Dijkstra has produced a complex body of photographic and video work, offering a contemporary take on the genre of portraiture. Her large-scale color photographs and videos, mainly of young, typically adolescent subjects, present subtle and minimal contextual details, encouraging us to focus on the exchange between photographer and subject, and on the relationship between viewer and viewed. Born in The Netherlands, in 1959, Dijkstra studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Johannes Vermeer Prijs (2020), the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography (2017), SPECTRUM – International Prize for Photography of Stiftung Niedersachsen (2017), and The Citibank Private Bank Photography Prize (1999). Service Design - 2025 During the Service Design course, the 3rd year of the Graphic Design, Photography and Media & Interaction Design bachelors had to create multi-media projects. A collaboration of the Visual Communication department which had as subject the SDGs (*Sustainable Development Goals). The theme was called "For a good cause, make the SDGs a reality" and its objective was to allow students to develop a cause that is close to their hearts. Each project consists of at least two different media, one primary and one secondary. These projects could take any form that the students deemed relevant, be it a website, editions, posters, a video sequence or virtual reality. The SDGs are meant to be achieved globally by all United Nations member states by 2030. This entails all states equally playing their part in seeking common solutions to the world s urgent challenges. Switzerland is also obligated to implement these goals at the national level. Furthermore, incentives must be created to encourage non-governmental actors to increasingly contribute to sustainable development. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), along with their 169 targets, constitute the core of the Agenda 2030. They integrate the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development and, for the first time, place poverty eradication and sustainable development on the same agenda. 2030 IS NOT FAR AWAY Edition Our docu-fiction takes the form of a black box. As major institutions and the UN admit their failure to achieve the SDGs, it records government activities in the year 2030 through the lens of global energy degradation. Amidst reports and official documents, Ravi Mehta, an energy researcher commissioned by the UN, infiltrates the system logs and reveals what is truly happening behind the scenes of a world on the brink. He exposes the deceptive efforts of states and paints a portrait of a polarized world, where the pursuit of profit makes sustainable development impossible. In 2030, he travels the globe, closely following several projects that promise sustainable energy alternatives. However, government pressure hinders him and his colleagues from properly implementing the program. As the story unfolds, the reader witnesses the worsening situation and becomes aware of the deep interconnection between the SDGs—until the end of the year, when humanity is ultimately condemned by its past inaction. By , & Lasting parcel Edition & Website The project takes the form of a newsletter, delivered like a package in a mailbox. Inside the box, beneath its packaging, the recipient finds an informative edition focused on a specific SDG, featuring text sourced from the official SDG website, along with four postcards containing QR codes. When scanned, each card leads to a website offering a rich, immersive visual interpretation of the newsletter s theme. The user can navigate through various types of content—graphic boards, videos, sounds, and images—allowing for a non-linear exploration of the edition. Visitors can also access an index, presented as an interactive map, which brings together past and future newsletters of the project. Each edition can be viewed or ordered directly from the platform. There are four newsletters in total—four packages—each containing the same set of media formats. By , , & SDG QUEST Video game Our video game offers an interactive experience designed to raise awareness and explain the environmental and social challenges of the SDGs to younger audiences, using a language and format that resonates with them. Players take on the role of a child transforming a grey, polluted world through their actions and interactions with local inhabitants. The goal is to inspire young people and children to take real-world action by showing them that even small gestures can have a big impact. We provide an educational and engaging game that combines entertainment with awareness, empowering the next generation to make a difference. By , & LET S ACT NOW Website An immersive mobile website designed to raise awareness and inspire action around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Let s Act Now presents a series of mobile-first websites, each crafted as an interactive one-page experience dedicated to a specific SDG. Through striking visuals, impactful videos, and 3D animations, each page delves into the global challenges shaping our future. Visitors are immersed in a rich experience where every visual element—from thought-provoking images to animated sequences—is designed to spark curiosity, encourage reflection, and drive engagement. This project aims to make the SDGs accessible, impactful, and engaging, mobilizing a broad audience around the world s most urgent challenges. With Let s Act Now, the mission is clear: turn awareness into concrete action. By , , & Mon monde parfait Edition How do children envision the future? We interviewed 60 children aged 4 to 11, all attending school in Switzerland, to gather their visions of an ideal world. These conversations, centered around the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), allowed us to dive into their imaginations and discover their ideas for a better future. Our project invites these young minds to imagine a utopian world aligned with the SDGs, while also proposing solutions to improve today s reality. The children s ideas were then transformed into creative, colorful visuals that illustrate their unique visions of a perfect future. The publication brings together these in-depth interviews along with the illustrations. A second layer of reading is offered through augmented reality: by scanning selected pages, readers can access more alarming data on today s environmental and social challenges—creating a striking contrast with the children s imagined utopia. This project highlights the richness of children s perspectives and their potential to inspire meaningful reflection on a sustainable future. By , , & Getting Involved Edition & Posters The project consists of three editions, each focused on a specific Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). These editions combine protest slogans with visual symbols that embody their messages. They share a common core derived from the “Getting Involved” chapter of Amnesty International s Sustainable Development Goals text, which offers guidance on how to engage in the fight for the SDGs. Each edition also includes a section dedicated to its respective SDG, featuring detachable and fold-out pages that can be transformed into protest signs. These pages are based on the goals outlined in the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2015. The editions are modular, allowing pages to be interchanged across editions to vary and customize the slogans. By , &

ECAL Night Live During an intensive week, first-year students from the Visual Communication department at ECAL had the opportunity to create and produce the first edition of ECAL Night Live. The goal was to design a show inspired by satirical television formats. Divided into multidisciplinary teams—including students from the Bachelor programs in Graphic Design, Media & Interaction Design, and Photography—they collaborated to create all the content, set design, and visual identity of the show, delivering a fully homemade project in record time. The main theme revolved around self-mockery, targeting the visual communication professions, students, and the institution itself, with a subtle touch of current events. This project was supervised by Vincent Veillon and Paul Walther, directors of the RTS show 52 Minutes, as well as Florian Pittet, a digital scenography expert who guided the creation of the show s set design.
ECAL LECTURE – JEAN-CHARLES DE CASTELBAJAC,18.03.2025,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL An avant-garde designer and artist, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac anticipated what today constitutes the basis of new creation: art and fashion, detour and collaboration. Multi-disciplinary work of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac - art, fashion and design - revolves around a short chromatic range of blue, yellow and red, one of the finest representations of which was to dress Pope John Paul II, bishops and priests for the 1997 World Youth Day. Passionate about heraldry, the science of coats of arms, vexillology, the science of flags, semiotics, the study of signs, pop art and the world of childhood, his art and fashion bring together these dualities: the epic, the historic, the traditional and the alternative. He has collaborated with many artists, including Keith Haring, Lady Gaga, Robert Mapplethorpe, Pedro Winter and Pharrell Williams. He began his career as a designer alongside his mother, setting up Ko & Co in Limoges. His first obvious garment was a coat cut from his boarding-school blanket, as well as clothes made from mops, thus launching the concept of upcycling. He went on to found the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac fashion house in 1978. As early as the 1980s, he anticipated the current decompartmentalization of art and fashion by collaborating with artists of all disciplines on his shows: musicians, photographers and visual artists. He worked with Miquel Barceló, Ben and Robert Combas to create tableau dresses, with Robert Mapplethorpe, Keith Haring and Cindy Sherman to create invitations for his shows, and with Malcolm McLaren to create the music for his shows. In 1986, he was exhibited at New York s Fashion Institute and Technology. In 2006, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, then at the Musée Galliera in Paris in 2007. Also an artist, he created a 3700 m2 fresco for Orly airport in Paris in 2015. In September 2018, he created a monumental work for the Biennale des antiquaires de Paris at the Grand Palais. From 2018 to 2022, he is artistic director of United Colors of Benetton. His artistic work is the subject of an exhibition entitled Le Peuple de Demain at the children s gallery of the Centre Pompidou in 2021-2022, presented at the West Bund Museum in Shanghai and at the Centre Pompidou Malaga in 2023. In 2022, he will also be present at the Mobilier National with the scenography for the exhibition No taste for bad taste, retracing 40 years of French design, and with a carte blanche entitled L atour d assises, focusing on French styles. In June 2024, he installs a 15-metre trellis sculpture on the wall of the Société de Géographie in Paris, called “L Ange Géographe”. He was chosen by the Diocese of Paris to design the liturgical vestments and ornaments for the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris in December 2024.DATES & SCHEDULE18.03.2025 6pm Free entryVENUEIKEA Auditorium, ECALWEBSITEjeancharlesdecastelbajac.com

ATHENA PROMISES,25–28.02.2025,Cinema Studio, ECAL Following a workshop in Athens with artist Nikolas Ventourakis, students in ECAL s Bachelor of Photography programme are unveiling an exhibition that captures the contrasts of the city, between its ancient heritage and contemporary challenges. Athens, famous for its historic role as the cradle of democracy, has also been marked in its contemporary history by the financial and social crises that have rocked Greece. Recently, the city has attracted worldwide attention for major events such as the 2004 Olympic Games and the DOCUMENTA exhibition in 2017. Today, Athens is undergoing unbridled urban development, while coping with the effects of climate change. Heat waves, floods, forest fires: here, myth and reality collide, antiquity rubs shoulders with modernity, and this sprawling metropolis, home to almost half of Greece s population, becomes the scene of an ideological clash. At the heart of one of the oldest cities in the world, the students immersed themselves in a city rich in contrasts. They explored the city through documentary, staged and performative eyes. In the warm, golden sunshine, they explored a wide range of themes, from derelict Olympic infrastructure to the ambitious $8 billion housing project, The Ellinikon, as well as the testimonies of young Athenian artists. These artists, deeply attached to their roots and history, sometimes feel trapped in a city where recognition seems out of reach. Under the artistic direction of Nikolas Ventourakis, this workshop offered students in the Photography Bachelor s programme an opportunity to explore their own work.DATES & SCHEDULE25–28.02.2025 Free entryVENUECinema Studio, ECAL Av. du Temple 5, 1020 RenensHEAD OF DEPARTMENTARTISTIC DEPUTYOPENINGMonday, 24.02.2025 6.00pmASSISTANT
Visual Identity BA3 S1 2024-2025 Through the prism of visual identity, this project addresses issues of graphic language and artistic direction. Each stage of the project examines an aspect of the development of a visual identity: research, concept, visual language, design and communication. RADIONModular visual identity designed for the RADION club in Amsterdam. Designed to be both recognisable and impactful, it adapts to all formats and uses in order to meet the needs of a nightclub in a highly competitive environment. HS UHT USTThis project explores a potential overhaul of the Swiss Shooting Federation s visual identity in order to place it in a more contemporary and rigorous context. By moving away from the traditional clichés associated with shooting sports, this new identity aims to reposition the federation by emphasising excellence, precision and modernity in order to appeal to a new audience. La jetée In 1962, French filmmaker Chris Marker released La Jetée. It was an experimental film made up of hundreds of 35 mm black and white shots. It tells the story of a journey through time in a distorted post-apocalyptic Paris. The visual identity is based on an original typography designed to pay homage to Marker s raw material and its French context, and transcribes the idea of sequencing and light projection. It evolves through a teaser for a screening of La Jetée and a booklet containing the entire film script. ICONOHow do you talk to images? Should exhibition images be shown or not? Collages, appropriationists, the whole world up to the present day, a constellation of images... Since the beginning of the 20th century, iconographic artists have been appropriating images produced on an industrial scale. The images of these same artists form the name of the fictitious exhibition ICONO. By re-appropriating them, identity uses their codes to communicate. ApneaNumbers are omnipresent in the world of freediving, whether measuring depth or the duration of an immersion. This visual identity is based on a variable typography with two axes, each representing one of these parameters. Duration is illustrated by the change in the fat of the counter-forms, symbolising how full the diver s lungs are. Depth is represented by the thickness of the contours, evoking the gradation of colours that darken with immersion. The animation of these variables creates a breathing effect, echoing the rhythm of apnea. Orpheum TheaterNow abandoned, the Orpheum Theater in New Bedford, USA, had its heyday at the beginning of the XXᵉ century. To illustrate its transition from 6ᵉ to 7ᵉ art, the identity of this film library traces the three major periods that marked this venue. It combines neoclassical ornamentation, as reinterpreted in the Art Deco era, with a typographic structure inspired by flyers from the golden age of theatre. The whole is geometrically
Parasonic: Transmission of fugitive aural practices Parasonic is a research project on the social and racial constructions of aural practices, based on a critique of a regime of thinking and listening to sound that is over-represented in the arts, and which aims to create spaces for the transmission of fugitive aural practices. Parasonic is a research project on the social and racial constructions of aural practices, based on a critique of a regime of thinking and listening to sound that is over-represented in the arts, and which aims to create spaces for the transmission of fugitive aural practices. It is part of contemporary studies on the cultural history of perceptions and works alongside researchers who have been deconstructing racializing practices and politics of perception for a century (in particular Du Bois, 1920; Fanon, 1949; Baldwin, 1955; Morrison, 1992; Glissant, 1990; Gilroy, 1995; hooks, 1997; Hartman, 1997; Haraway, 1997; Wynter, 2003; Ahmed, 2007; Harney and Moten, 2022; Campt, 2017, 2023). The project articulates two levels of discussion: a substantive level based on theoretical debates on the notion of ‘white aurality . And an operational level based on the audio-visual editing of filmed artists stories of listening and their public played in spaces for the transmission of practical knowledge. Two levels of goals are therefore also articulated: to gain knowledge and self-critical awareness about the relationship between racialization and listening practices; and to create pieces designed as tools to transmit listenings what the regime of white aurality does not hear: ways of listening that escape it, or that ignore it, or that oppose it (hence the term para-sonic). La Mobilière 2025 Prize awarded to Alfatih Congratulations to ECAL graduate artist Alfatih, who was awarded the Prix La Mobilière 2025 at the recent Salon Art Genève. Born in 1995 and graduating from ECAL in 2018 with a Bachelor s degree in Media & Interaction Design, Alfatih, who lives and works in Lausanne, has been awarded the Prix La Mobilière 2025. Awarded each year, this prize is given to artists whose work is inspired by the issues facing our society, providing a basis for understanding our times. It is accompanied by financial support of CHF 30,000. Through his video installations and interactive works, the artist addresses the different developments in the virtual world and establishes links between fields that are still often considered to be opposed. He questions codes of understanding and their significance for society, while integrating them into the present, creating a space for diversity and pluralistic perspectives. ‘The apparent lightness of Alfatih s digital images transports us into stories in which reflections on certain periods of life, memory and death follow one another and intertwine, explains Nicolas Brulhart, artistic director of the Kunsthalle Friart in Fribourg, which nominated Alfatih for the Prix Mobilière 2025. @alfatiharufa alfatih.world
