Ecal X Helinox

Focusing primarily on the tension between technical rigour and poetic simplicity, our approach was to design lights built around Helinox's own connectors and tensioned textiles, rather than creating conventional lamps.

Students explored and reinterpreted the brand’s distinctive vocabulary — aluminium poles, spring clips, hubs and technical fabrics — imagining how light could travel with us into the wild and back home again. Based on their research, they developed a range of typologies suited to camping and beyond.

The challenge the students set themselves was to reimagine the camp light, an object built for necessity, while giving it the presence and warmth of a true piece of lighting design.

Diane Thouvenin – Sun Connection

with Alain Bellet, Christophe Guignard, Gaël Hugo, Laura Nieder, Pauline Saglio

What time is it at Hortense’s in Montreal? What’s the weather like at Alexandre’s in Tokyo? When I communicate with my loved ones, scattered all over the world, I am disconnected from my physical time-space. Sources of constant artificial light and windows on the digital world, screens replace the sun as a space-time reference point. Sun Connection enables you to reconnect with your loved ones through a delocalised sun. Everyone is free to use their own physical and digital space with a luminous and colourful presence, to transpose themselves into another time and space.
