Le livre d artiste - 24/25 As part of the editorial design course led by Anouk Schneider and Nicolas Polli, second-year Visual Communication students had the opportunity to design an artist s book during the first semester. This book project stands out for its contemporary approach, aiming to create an editorial object that harmoniously integrates form and content within today s publishing landscape. Students were encouraged to fully embrace their artistic freedom at every stage of the creative process—whether in terms of format, paper choice, binding, layout, illustrations, text, or typography. Within this course, the artist s book can take shape through various modes of illustration, such as photography, reproduction, contextualization, drawing, 3D, and more. The emphasis is placed on the author s artistic vision and the means implemented to bring it to life. Students take on multiple roles as editor, curator, and architect, thereby covering the responsibilities of art director, designer, photographer, stylist, illustrator, typographer, editor-in-chief, and copy editor. This course highlights contemporary editorial design by exploring the narrative potential of a carefully constructed content sequence. ECAL Night Live During an intensive week, first-year students from the Visual Communication department at ECAL had the opportunity to create and produce the first edition of ECAL Night Live. The goal was to design a show inspired by satirical television formats. Divided into multidisciplinary teams—including students from the Bachelor programs in Graphic Design, Media & Interaction Design, and Photography—they collaborated to create all the content, set design, and visual identity of the show, delivering a fully homemade project in record time. The main theme revolved around self-mockery, targeting the visual communication professions, students, and the institution itself, with a subtle touch of current events. This project was supervised by Vincent Veillon and Paul Walther, directors of the RTS show 52 Minutes, as well as Florian Pittet, a digital scenography expert who guided the creation of the show s set design.

ECAL LECTURE – JEAN-CHARLES DE CASTELBAJAC,18.03.2025,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL An avant-garde designer and artist, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac anticipated what today constitutes the basis of new creation: art and fashion, detour and collaboration. Multi-disciplinary work of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac - art, fashion and design - revolves around a short chromatic range of blue, yellow and red, one of the finest representations of which was to dress Pope John Paul II, bishops and priests for the 1997 World Youth Day. Passionate about heraldry, the science of coats of arms, vexillology, the science of flags, semiotics, the study of signs, pop art and the world of childhood, his art and fashion bring together these dualities: the epic, the historic, the traditional and the alternative. He has collaborated with many artists, including Keith Haring, Lady Gaga, Robert Mapplethorpe, Pedro Winter and Pharrell Williams. He began his career as a designer alongside his mother, setting up Ko & Co in Limoges. His first obvious garment was a coat cut from his boarding-school blanket, as well as clothes made from mops, thus launching the concept of upcycling. He went on to found the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac fashion house in 1978. As early as the 1980s, he anticipated the current decompartmentalization of art and fashion by collaborating with artists of all disciplines on his shows: musicians, photographers and visual artists. He worked with Miquel Barceló, Ben and Robert Combas to create tableau dresses, with Robert Mapplethorpe, Keith Haring and Cindy Sherman to create invitations for his shows, and with Malcolm McLaren to create the music for his shows. In 1986, he was exhibited at New York s Fashion Institute and Technology. In 2006, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, then at the Musée Galliera in Paris in 2007. Also an artist, he created a 3700 m2 fresco for Orly airport in Paris in 2015. In September 2018, he created a monumental work for the Biennale des antiquaires de Paris at the Grand Palais. From 2018 to 2022, he is artistic director of United Colors of Benetton. His artistic work is the subject of an exhibition entitled Le Peuple de Demain at the children s gallery of the Centre Pompidou in 2021-2022, presented at the West Bund Museum in Shanghai and at the Centre Pompidou Malaga in 2023. In 2022, he will also be present at the Mobilier National with the scenography for the exhibition No taste for bad taste, retracing 40 years of French design, and with a carte blanche entitled L atour d assises, focusing on French styles. In June 2024, he installs a 15-metre trellis sculpture on the wall of the Société de Géographie in Paris, called “L Ange Géographe”. He was chosen by the Diocese of Paris to design the liturgical vestments and ornaments for the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris in December 2024.DATES & SCHEDULE18.03.2025 6pm Free entryVENUEIKEA Auditorium, ECALWEBSITEjeancharlesdecastelbajac.com

Fiction film workshop with Klaudia Reynicke The 2024 fiction film workshop for 2nd year students was lead by swiss and peruvian director Klaudia Reynicke. Head of workshop: "The aim of the second-year BA fiction workshop 2024-2025 was to write and direct short films on a very limited budget and to a very tight deadline. As head of this workshop, I chose to push these constraints to make it a real learning tool for the students. We took our inspiration from the principles of Dogma 95, while imposing a theme: ‘birth . The idea was to get the students to concentrate fully on the essence of filmmaking, to tell stories in the most raw and sincere way possible, without relying on devices often considered indispensable. This approach allowed them to explore storytelling and directing in a new way. Most of them played along. I ended up relaxing some of the rules of Dogme 95, which may seem contradictory. But this strict framework, which wasn t very sexy for many at first, served as a starting point, giving them a basis and constraints for experimenting, testing and researching. Then the projects took over. Everyone found their own urgency, their own rules. So we left Dogme 95 behind and concentrated on the films themselves. Films that are unique, sincere, sometimes raw, often powerful and as rich as they are profound, in all their splendour." La Mobilière 2025 Prize awarded to Alfatih Congratulations to ECAL graduate artist Alfatih, who was awarded the Prix La Mobilière 2025 at the recent Salon Art Genève. Born in 1995 and graduating from ECAL in 2018 with a Bachelor s degree in Media & Interaction Design, Alfatih, who lives and works in Lausanne, has been awarded the Prix La Mobilière 2025. Awarded each year, this prize is given to artists whose work is inspired by the issues facing our society, providing a basis for understanding our times. It is accompanied by financial support of CHF 30,000. Through his video installations and interactive works, the artist addresses the different developments in the virtual world and establishes links between fields that are still often considered to be opposed. He questions codes of understanding and their significance for society, while integrating them into the present, creating a space for diversity and pluralistic perspectives. ‘The apparent lightness of Alfatih s digital images transports us into stories in which reflections on certain periods of life, memory and death follow one another and intertwine, explains Nicolas Brulhart, artistic director of the Kunsthalle Friart in Fribourg, which nominated Alfatih for the Prix Mobilière 2025. @alfatiharufa alfatih.world

ECAL at artgenève,30.01–02.02.2025,Palexpo, Geneva For Art Genève 2025, Bachelor Fine Arts students have come up with ‘Dont Be Happy, Worry , a creation that grew out of a workshop given by the American artist Kenneth Goldsmith. This collaborative project by ECAL Bachelor Fine Arts students challenges conventional perspectives on art and meaning. Inspired by an intense and thought-provoking workshop by Kenneth Goldsmith, the students explored subtle signs of life and everyday details, transforming wandering thoughts into a carpet: not as a design, but as a detour; not as a statement, but as a collection of overlooked absurdities. It s a soft landing for stray thoughts, misplaced objects, and the kind of meaning that sneaks up on you, waiting to trip you up when you least expect it. Kenneth Goldsmith is an American poet, artist and critic, founder of the online archive ubuweb.com and professor at University of Pennsylvania. His writing is motivated by his own 2007 manifesto “Uncreative Writing” and is often a collage of found material. He s the author of books and critical texts, radio shows and installations and was appointed Moma s first Poet Laureate.DATES AND SCHEDULES30.01–02.02.2025 12pm to 9pm except Thursday and Sunday from 12pm to 7pmVENUEPalexpo, GenèveWEBSITEartgenèveOPENINGThursday, January 30, 2025, 2-9 pm by invitationSTUDENTS, , , , , , , , , , , , , Lisa Okhrimchuk, INVITED ARTISTKenneth GoldsmithHEAD OF PROGRAMME

ECAL × AGO – Seoul Highlights,07.11–01.12.2024,SEOUL DESIGN FESTIVAL Off-site Exhibition - Seochon Lounge An innovative collection of lighting installations designed to blend into public spaces, created by the ECAL s Bachelor Industrial Design in collaboration with AGO Lighting, under the supervision of designer Adrien Rovero. The importance of light in every space is essential, which is why lighting should be the starting point when building a space. Most AGO Lighting collections offer lighting options that can be modulated by architects and designers. AGO Lighting has teamed up with students from ECAL s Bachelor of Industrial Design program, under the direction of Swiss designer , to design a collection of lighting installations for use in public spaces such as museums, hotels and bars. Focusing primarily on the spatial aspect of light, our approach was to design lighting structures based on components supplied by AGO and inspired by the Seoul landscape. The challenge we set ourselves was to reimagine the chandelier, an object that confers distinctive status on a space, while fulfilling its original function of diffusing functional light. ECAL x AGO Seoul Highlights is presented for the first time at the Seochon Lounge, operated by Design Press, in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Korea. This project was made possible with the generous support of the Summer University program of the Direction générale de l enseignement supérieur (DGES) of the State of Vaud and the Hanok Heritage Preservation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. ECAL x AREA OF WORK - CO-EXISTENCE ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne has teamed up with Paris-based studio Area of Work at Paris Photo to present CO-EXISTENCE, a monumental immersive installation in the heart of Paris s 11th arrondissement, from 7 to 9 November 2024. In a large metropolis, a small, seemingly empty apartment reveals discreet traces of human presence. On another scale, a conquering population manifests itself. Wings flap, slime trails, antennae shivers... In the industrial setting of the former Garage République in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, CO-EXISTENCE showcases a living cohabitation through a sequence of artificial images created using Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). These spectacular yet intimate photo-realistic projections highlight the imperceptible, the infra- thin, and the invisible, blurring the scales between micro and macro. Developed during three series of workshops conducted from 2023 to autumn 2024 by Area of Work, CO- EXISTENCE bears witness to the technical and artistic skills that are honed within the ECAL MA Photography. These workshops enabled students to transpose their photographic skills into the virtual space of 3D graphics to understand the temporal, artistic, and commercial issues involved in creating CGI. ‘This collaboration offered ECAL students an introduction to the tools and possibilities of 3D graphics, exploring their integration into the processes of creating photorealistic and hyper-realistic images, while highlighting the importance of the artistic and cinematographic dimensions that are at the heart of our identity. – Amine Ghorab & Scott Renau, Area of Work, Paris. Founded in Paris in 2018 by artists and directors Amine Ghorab and Scott Renau, Area of Work is known for its distinctive contemporary visual narratives, blending graphic framing and rigorous photographic direction. Gary Sandoz – Reminix By delegating our life experiences to digital media processed by algorithms, memory is no longer solely human. Reminix explores the emotional dimension and the future of our fragmented memories through a device that scans and analyzes photographic slides, acting as an ephemeral backup of a past life in the absence of the author s testimony. In a spatial contemplation, the image materialized and rendered in 3D, accompanied by generative narration, reconstitutes an alternative past with each activation. This interactive experience reactivates the memory and creates a bridge between the user and the narrative potential of the image, while questioning the fragility, preservation, trust, and generation of our memories by machines.

Matteo Friberg – Death to the hunchbacks (Direction) Knight Borboron is poisoned and wants to apologize to Hildegund before dying. Fiction / 25 min Synopsis Knight Borboron, is forced to give in to peer pressure and, in order to avoid fighting in battle, eats a piece of poisoned cake. He quickly regrets his decision and feels overcome with a weight on his conscience. In a panic, he makes his young squire Michmich escort him on a final quest that will assuage his guilt and thus enable him to die with dignity: to apologize to Hildegrund.

Tom Grbic – Imagine ne pas pouvoir fuir, performance continue de la tolérance et de laa raison Imagine not being able to run away is a continuous performance lasting the whole day. It aims to show the principle of ‘trans work theorised by Josephine Gilles Harris in 2019. J. G. Harris highlights, among other things, the fact that queer people need to maintain a constant performative state in order to be able to navigate the world in an ‘understandable way. With an activation of texts by Laurène Marx, Tom Grbic, Josephine Gilles Harris and Adel Tincelin, it is also an effort to inscribe ourselves in a lineage, a critical and welcoming queer History.

Sophia Zeller – Eleanor A dress designed to be worn long after the wedding day, offering a solution to wear and re-wear your memories, in a sustainable way. Eleanor is the result of research on textile waste in the wedding dress industry. Simply moving the skirt along the garments buttons transforms it so it can effortlessly be used for various events during the ceremony. By dying and changing its color post-wedding, Eleanor unveils the myrtle flower pattern printed on the fabric, ready to be worn without a bridal appearance. No longer confined to closets and attics, this dress embodies sustainability by reducing textile waste. Crafted from 100% deadstock silk and designed as a mono-material garment, it follows a zero-waste pattern criteria.

Isabella Madrid – Buena, Bonita, y Barata As a Latin American woman, I have grown up with very specific expectations of the kind of woman I should be. In my project, I am reversing the codes that have been forced onto me and immersing myself in the different symbols of how Colombian women exist and have been represented through photographic self portraits. I am taking these symbols and subverting them, enacting them, letting them hold a weight on me, holding my own weight on them, playing with them, letting them define me and simultaneously redefining their power and meaning. I am showcasing not only the everlasting colonial violence Colombian female bodies have always been subjected to but simultaneously reappropriating the narrative around them, playing the muse, model, photographer, stylist, makeup artist, and art director.

Nina Pacherová – We Won t Tell Daddy! We Won t Tell Daddy! takes a speculative look at the impact of sharenting - the phenomenon whereby parents excessively share their children s lives on social networks. In the form of a video installation, it explores the future consequences of the digital footprint that parents create for their children. It focuses on the TikTok #bathroomchallenge, where children are recorded cursing, and unaware of the future implications, their video is shared online. The project uses AI and deepfake technology to protect children s identities by replacing their faces with that of the author and highlights the abuse of content. At the same time, it encourages us to redefine the role of technology in our lives by using deepfake as a protective tool.

Documentary film workshop with Alessandro Comodin The 2024 documentary film workshop for 2nd year students was lead by french italian director Alessandro Comodin. Head of workshop: "To make a film, you have to take into account so many variables that it may seem impossible. If we accept this ontological impossibility and the imperfection it entails, the greatest variable to be confronted in filming becomes the self. How, then, to film the Other? How do we portray them? How do we accept that the film will also be a portrait of ourselves? How do you strike a balance between the Other and yourself? How, finally, can we work on our own style, our own unconscious inclinations, our own tastes and desires, without letting ourselves be influenced by forms and images we ve already seen? We worked in the simplest, most artisanal way possible, going back to the very basics of cinematic grammar. We desacralized mise-en-scène, reducing it as much as possible to a question of light, frame, out-of-frame, sound... In this way, we were able to touch the heart of our craft with our own hands: the most important thing when we make a film is the people we re filming, the bond that binds us, the desire and pleasure of immortalizing them...and this in the same way, whether we re making documentaries or fiction." REMIND ME I M ALIVE REMIND ME I M ALIVE is a companion that combines the functions of a fidget toy with those of a personal reminder. The gadget uses information on Wifi connections in its immediate vicinity to better understand the user s environment. By examining these connections - the only gateway to the outside world - the gadget can tell whether the user is in a busy or quiet environment, and even give indications of possible stressful situations. When the user is not interacting with the device, it constantly monitors his or her status via the surrounding wifi connections. These connections provide implicit information on social conditions, working environments, infrastructures and much more. If the user does not communicate with the companion for more than six hours, it “dies” and must be resuscitated. This feature underlines the need for regular interaction and ensures that the companion is always ready for use.

Products illustrated in the book range from furniture, lighting, and objects, to limited editions, glassware, and office systems, making Designed for Life the ideal route to new talent throughout the field of product design and the perfect way to assess exactly what is being created in the design scene today Chosen by an international line up of influential industry experts – design critics, museum curators, entrepreneurs, journalists, and gallerists – the nominated designers comprise young product designers who have emerged in the last few years, but who have already produced outstanding, creative, and innovative pieces of design, such as Mac Collins, Nifemi Marcus-Bello, Minjae Kim, and Mimi Shodeinde as well as more established designers including Jasper Morrison, India Mahdavi, and Jonathan Olivares. This fascinating book illustrates the new materials, processes, and technologies being utilized; the radically different styles being created; and the growing importance of sustainability, diversity, and inclusivity in design. “The Eskimo in the Mojave Desert”: Herbert Matter, a Designer Across Scenes and Genres Matter s career was that of a multidisciplinary, international designer working across commerce and culture. He was not only a graphic artist but also a photographer, type designer, art director, teacher and film-maker. His work in the field of advertising and editorial design, his collaborations with artists, his self-commissioned work, his photography and film outputs and his long-serving position as an educator provide as many entry points to analyse the impact of migration and an international network on a graphic designer s career. It also provides a case study to analyse the professional model of the designer working as photographer and layout artist simultaneously. The historiography on the Swiss graphic designer and photographer Herbert Matter (1907–1984) is characterised by a dichotomy. On the one hand, his oeuvre is partially well-known; some of his works are regarded as amongst “the most celebrated posters in design history” and have been published so widely that they make him a canonical figure of the highest degree. On the other hand, scholarship on his career is often shallow, repetitive and limited to the recurrent reproductions of a few selected artefacts. As is often the case with the canon, Matter s high visibility does not translate into a refined understanding of his work. Scholarship fails to contextualise him as a multifaceted graphic designer, photographer, and film-maker whose career did not fit within a specific style or movement, but reflected influences ranging from French poster artists, Swiss modernism and American pop culture. His profile was so unusual that the American graphic designer Paul Rand, who was active in corporate identity and branding, quipped: “I have always had the feeling that H[erbert] M[atter] on Madison Avenue was like an Eskimo in the Mohavi [sic] desert”, that is an out-of-place character in the world of New York advertising. The present project therefore provides a more nuanced discourse on Matter s career by relating his visual work to his influences and his migration between the three scenes in which he was active: Switzerland, France and the United States. It answers the following question: How did Herbert Matter s migration, transnational experiences and network shape his approach to graphic design?ApplicantsDr Jonas Berthod Prof. Gilles GavilletResearch teamDr Jonas Berthod (ECAL) Prof. Louise Paradis (Université du Québec à Montréal UQAM) Prof. Gilles Gavillet (ECAL)Period1.12.2023 – 31.1.2025Supported byHES-SO, Réseau de Compétences Design et Arts Visuels RCDAV

Unpacking Tschichold s Library at KASK,28.03–21.04.2024,KASK & Conservatorium, Belgium Unpacking Tschichold s Library" exhibition at KASK & Conservatorium Jan Tschichold s Die neue Typografie (1928) served as a central reference in the discourse on modernist design. Nearly a century after its publication, the book holds a mythical status, often considered self-evident and rarely critically examined. The exhibition reevaluates the legacy of the new typography by literally unpacking Tschichold s library. In the exhibition, you can browse through almost all 120 sources cited in the essay, with high-quality facsimiles alongside rare originals. As an annex to the exhibition, the Belgian Institute for Graphic Design (BINGO) provides a contemporary and local response to Tschichold, developed in collaboration with Kunstenbibliotheek and the graphic design students of KASK & Conservatorium. This travelling exhibition is a research project of ECAL / University of Art and Design Lausanne (HES-SO), curated by Davide Fornari. Fiction film workshop with Carmen Jaquier The 2023 fiction film workshop for 2nd year students was lead by swiss director Carmen Jaquier. Head of workshop: "The initial proposal was to leave room for the students desires and quests, while offering a simple framework for the making of their second-year film. We worked from a single set, as vast as Michelangelo Frammartino s and the exhausted interior architecture of John Cassavetes characters. Together, we looked for simple, accessible, everyday ways of nurturing a story and characters. We wanted to capture gestures, ways of speaking, and significant details in people we know and don t know. We came up with "A Rock", a sort of collection of images, thoughts and interactions, with the idea of expanding the universe of the films. To avoid the black holes of writing, we set ourselves in action, in movement. We imagined the shoots as parties, and danced with Aurélien. Collages and skeletons invaded the white walls of the school, revealing the films to come. On the big screen, I watch, moved, two young brothers tearing themselves apart over a lie, three friends in a frenzy just before separation, a young man absorbed by his need for power, a friend giving in under the weight of the mountain, two sisters who have made a promise to each other, a son who summons his father s spirit through music, the love and death rites of a young kendoka, a group of girlfriends in search of an inner voice, and a fragmented young man, before the end of the world." TRANSLATION During the visual identity course, the 2nd year Graphic Design bachelors had to produce a communication project based on a translation. They had to define their own translation system and develop a visual language based on these rules. SOURCE BOOKThrough a selection of ten books that talk about books, the study looks at the representation of the publishing object. From its materiality, volume and image to its translation into the same medium. The questioning extends firstly to the relationship between dematerialised design on the screen and printed materiality, as well as the volume that the editorial object represents. Secondly, through a process of digitisation and photocopying, the project explores the aesthetic potential of the photocopying medium. The graphic design, influenced by the characteristics of this medium, is presented as a form of reading, transforming a collection of content into a superimposition of images. The integration of this content into two juxtaposed posters aims to reinterpret the book in the poster under a third layer. The book is then defined in a new way in the context in which it is displayed. Par Historia ItinerisHistoria Itineris translates physical museum space into virtual space, reinterpreting the "bugs" created by Google Street View and the codes of curation to delve into the thoughts of an exhibition by a fictional artist, Joseph Knecht. Par Collective Memory From social media profiles to forum posts, from digital transactions to website visits, our online presence leaves traces that all too often go unnoticed. What would happen if we could retrieve this data and translate it into an avatar? By diving into the depths of my digital history, I ve gathered together all the information I could find about myself online. Par RADIO49DRADIO49D is a free local radio station based in the town of Renens (Canton of Vaud, Switzerland), originally created for this visual identity project. It was launched in October 2023 at number 49D on the Rue de Lausanne. It broadcasts a wide variety of content freely (often illegally) over the available FM airwaves. Its callsign is HB4DI, but this is nothing more than a usurpation, as the radio s founder never declared its existence to the relevant authorities. RADIO49D transmits over a maximum radius of 100 metres using a Raspberry Pi 4 computer and a ten-centimetre wire. RADIO49D s programming is free and unpredictable, so it generates maps for communicative purposes that it broadcasts by radio to regular listeners using the SSTV (Slow-scan Television) technique. These cards are then translated into radio waves, then retranscribed into images after reception and re-translation. An album acting as a physical archive of RADIO49D has been produced as part of its visual identity. It provides a complete record of the cards sent and received between October 2023 and January 2024. Par Eiger Air Eiger Air is an upcoming event taking place on the slopes of Mount Eiger. You ll be able to see an air show put on by the Patrouille Suisse. The identity of the event focuses on the representation of the visual language of aviation, as well as the translation of the signals made by a "yellow dog" to communicate with the aircraft from the landing strip. Par Weather Report "Weather Report" explores the popular visual codes of weather presentation. Drawing on viewers familiarity with the patterns, motifs, typographic elements, gestures and staging of presenters, the project offers a graphic reinterpretation in a variety of media. These elements are then transposed onto various printed media such as posters and a calendar, but also in an animation designed to deconstruct and then reassemble these visual components. Par

Somewhere between cultural anthropology, the epistemology of Vietnamese design and the sociology of objects, this research project analyses the production of objects in Vietnam in the light of French colonisation and decolonisation. Through reportage, interviews and research carried out in various archive collections, this book sets out to reveal the mechanisms by which objects, foods, materials and know-how have been integrated into Vietnam until today they can boast authentically Vietnamese characteristics. Like an archive of the present day, through the prism of design and the applied arts, the authors take a decolonial and critical look at the creativity and adaptability of a country that has succeeded in appropriating the techniques of a dominant power.Main applicantQuang Vinh Nguyen Émilie LaystaryResearch teamQuang Vinh Nguyen Émilie Laystary Cynthia Mai Amman Chi-Long TrieuPeriodJuly 2022 – April 2024Supported byECAL/University of art and design Lausanne Réserve stratégique de la HES-SO (RCDAV)ContributionsEric Panthou Kai Nguyễn Lưu Chữ (Quoc Huy Le, Đức Cao) Mắt Bét Nhat Thanh Le Tien Dat Vu Thai Ha Vu Trong Đặt Nguyễn Quoc Huy Le Vincent Yuen Ruiz Xuân-Hạ Vu

Fiction film workshop with Lionel Baier The 2023 fiction film workshop for 1st year students was lead by Lionel Baier. Head of workshop: "The aim of the workshop was to produce a 3 to 5 minute fiction film during a two days shooting at a single location around Lausanne, based on the script of a pre-existing film. The students saw ten feature films and were assigned one of them. They extracted a scene from it and adapted it. The films ranged from Subway (Luc Besson) to Lazarro Felice (Alice Rohrwacher). Each short film had to be able to be seen independently of the film from which it was taken. The aim of the workshop was to try out the problems of directing actors, cutting and directing without focusing on the script for this first fictional exercise." ECAL LECTURE – El Pampero Cine,24.01.2024,Leenaards Auditorium, ECAL More than just a production company, El Pampero Cine was born in 2002 from the desire of a group of people to experiment and renew the procedures and practices of Argentine cinema. In conference at the ECAL, Wednesday 13 October 2024 at 6.00pm. Part of the formidable revival known as the "New Argentine Cinema", the collective produced films of international renown, such as La Flor (2018), Castro (2009) and Trenque Lauquen (2022), always with a radical economic approach. El Pampero Cine s influence is not confined to aesthetics: its revolution affects above all forms of production and exhibition. Since Balnearios, in 2002, El Pampero Cine has developed a production system based on radical independence from conventional funding sources, which has enabled them to produce consistently fertile output. Historias Extraordinarias confirms that El Pampero Cine has imposed a new way of producing in Argentina, working with budgets that are significantly lower than the smallest industrial productions, without this inferiority of conditions having anything to do with the technical or aesthetic quality of the works. El Pampero Cine is made up of Mariano Llinás, Laura Citarella, Agustín Mendilaharzu and Alejo Moguilansky, Argentine directors, editors, writers and producers.
