Redesign

As part of the course given by Giliane Cachin, 1st year students are required to produce an edition by examining the different axes that make it up. The course offers a study of various grid systems and the fundamentals of micro-typography. During the semester, students will look for the best way to structure and arrange the content they have chosen (or which has been assigned to them, depending on the semester's data). Some essential rules to know in terms of printing and bindings will be reviewed at the end of the semester, in order to bring the conceptualized object to life.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with their 169 targets, form the core of the 2030 Agenda. They balance the economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainable development, and place the fight against poverty and sustainable development on the same agenda for the first time.

The SDGs are to be achieved around the world, and by all UN member states, by 2030. This means that all states are called upon equally to play their part in finding shared solutions to the world's urgent challenges. Switzerland is also required to implement the Goals on a national basis. In addition, incentives are to be created to encourage non-governmental actors to make an increasingly active contribution to sustainable development.

Based on a study conducted by Dr. Lea Stahel at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Zurich in 2020. The aim of the edition is to sensitize people and especially young people to the problem of hate on the Internet. Based on 8 points this study deciphers the phenomenon and its problems in Switzerland.

Rate Hate is a Chrome extension designed to combat hate and hate speech on the Internet. Thanks to this application you can evaluate the hate content of a website and modify its content accordingly. The goal of Rate Hate is to transform hate speech into a graphic visual in order to divert and criticize its content.

LAISSER DISPARAÎTRE OU FAIRE DISPARAÎTRE

Edition, animated poster & VR short film

Let it go or make it go exposes the conflicts of interest that oppose our desire to preserve the planet to our addiction to comfort. To act for the good of all or to protect our personal interests?

In the "privileged" context inherent to Switzerland, eco-anxiety soars and paradoxically, comfort gradually reaches its peak. Feelings oscillate between guilt, denial or justification of acts that contribute to the deterioration of our Earth, of the links that unite us or of our values.

Through interviews and surveys, the edition collects current concerns of subjects of various ages, for the great majority Swiss. They answer the questions: "What are you afraid to see disappear?" and "What comfort are you not ready to give up? Some systems of thought are developed in order to propose a varied panel of opinions. One of them is narrated by a voice-over and a succession of images in a poignant VR experience. Moving posters highlight various issues such as travel, overconsumption or importation.

Capturing a world in corrosion, the project is to be understood as the testimony of a concerned society.

MELTING POINTS

Flyer / poster & website

Melting Points is composed of a series of leaflets with the objective to warn and to make a statement about the environmental situation of the glaciers in Switzerland. Rather than communicating the urgency of the situation, we decided to evoke the mass disappearance of certain glaciers, thus accentuating a process that is already underway and partly irreversible.

This printed dimension of the project serves as a bridge between an ephemeral physical object and a constantly evolving website. The latter is based on the analogy of the obituary, listing the disappeared, threatened and non-threatened glaciers while emphasizing the nostalgia and memory of these places.
