WOOD PLAY!

WOOD PLAY!

The WOOD PLAY workshop, led by Spanish designer Marc Morro, invited students to explore wood as an open construction system accessible to all audiences. The aim was to foster creativity and experimentation through the design of playful, reconfigurable modules, leveraging the material’s possibilities and constraints while avoiding an overly childlike aesthetic.

Craftsmanship

Through a cycle of prototyping, testing, and refining, students developed abstract, geometric, or figurative systems that carefully balanced playfulness and complexity. By week’s end, stacks of milled timber had evolved into thoughtful construction sets—equal parts object, tool, and invitation to play.

BA INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

ECAL LOCAL

with Christophe Guberan

In collaboration with a local craftsman, the students designed a reusable packaging solution suitable for production in a little series. The project aimed to enhance the value of an everyday food product while addressing current challenges related to transport, sustainability, and the second life of packaging. The intervention had to be simple, functional, and eco-friendly, offering a purpose beyond its original packaging function.

COLLABORATION AVEC DEDON – 2023

with Alexis Tourron (Panter&Tourron), Stefano Panterotto (Panter&Tourron)

DEDON by Nature: Object 3 DEDON Studio partnered with ECAL for the second year to showcase "DEDON by Nature: Object 3." This exhibition features three collections of living accessories created by students from the Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship. Under designers Panter&Tourron's guidance, students kick-started the project with a visit to DEDON's Philippine manufacturer, immersing themselves in DEDON's unique Fiber and weaving processes. The creations that were conceived, designed, and crafted over an eight-month period, demonstrate imaginative prowess that reflects both the talent of the students and the enduring fascination that nature holds for us all.

Julie Turin – Star's Bags - The Tree Bag

by Julie Turin

Assembly line work and online orders have become the norm, even in craftsmanship. The Star's Bags app is a seamstress's response to this trend, offering an immersive shopping experience to highlight manual labor before the customer receives their bag. "The Tree Bag" is the first collection from this app, which can expand into other themes. Through this experience, the customer participates in every step of the bag's creation over several days: gathering materials, placing patterns, cutting, sewing, pinning, addressing, and shipping. By following this process, the customer appreciates the effort involved and retains a special memory of their purchase, enhancing the value of the product received.

Beyond The Screen – 2025

with Angelo Benedetto

Beyond the screen - is a series of interactive machines developed by students in their first year of Bachelor Media & Interaction Design. These systems are inspired by the relationship between instructions and execution within a computer system. These machines create text through a modular typographic system.
