Aleksandra Nazarova – Uyut

Global energy reserves are on the decline. The challenge of efficiently heating homes, particularly the older and poorly insulated ones, is growing. Hemp, having remarkable attributes such as insulation, air purification, bacterial resistance and CO2 absorption, is a fibre that has been making a steady comeback. Its low water requirement for cultivation adds to its appeal. Uyut modules have hemp fibre pockets that prevent the entry of cold air and the exit of warm air, and vice versa. They create warm, smaller spaces within larger rooms and effectively insulate windows, walls and doors. Their flexibility make them a practical and sustainable solution for energy-efficient homes.

Workshop with Strappazzon With the aim of broadening the horizons of graphic design students beyond the media traditionally explored during their training, Sebastian Stappazzon, co-founder of AVNIER – one of today's hottest streetwear brands launched in collaboration with French rapper OrelSan – runs a week-long workshop at ECAL. From the proposals imagined by the students, a capsule collection was born, produced in a limited edition. The entire collection will be presented and on sale at an exclusive event on 15 December 2023 at La Rasude in Lausanne.

For this project, the students had to design a seat, or rather requalify and rehabilitate a chair or armchair using existing models such as the monobloc, aluminium bistro chair, or deck chair, as the base structure. Employing Kvadrat upholstery textiles, the designs had to be reversible, meaning it should not alter the existing structure. While the original function of the chair could be maintained or altered, the proposals aimed to improved the comfort and aesthetic character of the seats.

The Disassembly Lab is a conceptual and formal study aimed at creating shoes integrated into a sustainable marketing system. Disassembly extends the life of a shoe, making it repairable, restorable, replaceable and recyclable. The aim is to rethink and redefine the way we build and assemble sneakers. This research takes inspiration from various references and explores several distinct concepts. Each concept evolves over the course of the research process, culminating in three shoes, offering a variety of functional and aesthetic solutions. These shoes, with their TPU soles and 3D knitted uppers, are reduced to the essentials, enabling simple, rapid production and assembly and easy recyclability.

Here, the story is not read between the pages, but lies on the floor and climbs up the windows. It slips under an arm. It tucks in dreams. It's a whole world at children's level, where ecosystems come to life through furniture, transforming everyday life into a playground for exploration. Le jardin, collection no. 1 The gardener has slipped seeds into the soil, the bright sun warms the petals, the mouse nibbles on the sly, and in this corner full of life, everyone is busy and smiling.
