Bloom

Charlotte Waridel – Bloom

Bloom is an interactive installation that delves into the opaque reality of nickel mining, a cornerstone of the energy transition. In 1975, biologist Alan Baker discovered, in an open-pit mine, a plant whose leaves contain nickel concentrations a thousand times higher than normal, Noccaea caerulescens. He published his findings, which went unnoticed. Today, the mining industry has taken an interest in these hyperaccumulator plants and is developing phytomining as an alternative to conventional extraction methods. Bloom explores the duality between scientific reality and a pro-industry narrative that presents it as tomorrow's green solution, navigating between the extraordinary adaptation of these plants to their environment and the mechanisms of greenwashing.

Mathieu Rivier – Light Form

with Alain Bellet, Christophe Guignard, Gaël Hugo

“This project implements a faceted structure placed on a plinth to support the content, which permits interaction with the content by touching it. The installation allows different forms of representations and interactions to be explored with a solid display. In order for the shape to become a surface of multi-touch visualisation, it was necessary to design a shape in heat-welded semi-transparent plastic which allows the projection and detection of fingers from inside the structure. I then made a structure in welded steel which supports the system of projection and detection on the shape. The software used allows detection with a display that is specific to the faces and their orientations. Making the installation required more work from me than producing the software. In fact, in the projects which I have undertaken to date, there was no material construction to implement and this was consequently the first time that I addressed the problems of ergonomics, scale, solidity, etc. I particularly liked not just working on the code of a software programme but also on its material implementation.” Mathieu Rivier

Viktor Gagné – Serialized Saplings

by Viktor Gagné

The weight of materials produced by humans is now believed to exceed that of all terrestrial biomass. How will these artifacts integrate into the rest of the environment in a million years? Serialized Saplings is an interactive installation that speculates on a potential form of vegetation to come, heavily altered by the excesses of human production, here crystallized through the symbol of the electrical outlet. By manipulating the connections of several power strips, the participant is invited to program the "genetic code" of hybrid plant species that do not yet exist and whose appearance resembles our industrial standards. This generated vegetation is then classified in the form of a digital herbarium that can be consulted and studied.

Simon De Diesbach – OccultUs

with Alain Bellet, Christophe Guignard, Gaël Hugo

OccultUs is an Oculus Rift installation that immerses the user in the midst of a sensory experience playing on the interpenetration of visual and sound elements from two distinct realities, one tangible and another simulated. I wanted to exploit the technical and artistic potential of Oculus Rift without achieving a purely digital experience. I preferred imagining a hybrid installation to shake the sensory habits of users while questioning their relation to the world.

Isaïa Delaplace – Azimut

by Isaïa Delaplace

Azimut is a puzzle game set in a 3D natural environment. The aim is to solve a series of riddles linked to the position of the sun in the sky. Inspired by the theme of Jun'ichiro Tanizaki's book “In Praise of Shadows”, controlling the sun becomes the central element of the gameplay. This action allows players to simply interact with the light that illuminates the Earth, solving puzzles and progressing through the experience. Through this series of increasingly complex puzzles, we can observe and feel the beauty of light and shadow in an increasingly vivid and rich environment.

Ayten Gönel – Tied Realities

with Pauline Saglio, Christophe Guignard, Alain Bellet, Gaël Hugo, Lara Défayes, Laura Nieder

Tied Realities is an interactive virtual reality (VR) experience that questions the relationship between material and immaterial space. In VR, physical space is rarely considered a constraining parameter in the creation of the environment. the project seeks to reverse this logic by integrating a physical constraint at the heart of the virtual experience. Plunged into an oppressive environment, each participant is invited to interact with an device that binds their wrists and restricts their movements. This device acts as a material representation of the discomfort felt by the protagonist in VR, which becomes the central element of the narrative, structuring the environment and interactions. Tied Realities then allows to experience the friction between digital freedom and physical limits.
