Alice Villars – Mirù Mirù is an exploration of the transmission and itinerancy of my mother s life through interdependent objects, dresses and a book. Clothes say a lot about someone. More than appearance, they are a fertile ground for graphic expression and self-expression. I created five dresses using archive material. The composition of the dresses incorporates ornamental forms and graphic elements, pictures. Each dress becomes an address from my mother s life, representing a particular atmosphere that gives clues to her story. The editing, meanwhile, creates a loop between the dresses and the book, a place where everything comes together. Mirù plunges into the history and emotions of a life, conveyed through clothes and words.

Inès Mermoud – OS CRIAS OS CRIAS attempts to shed light on the relationship between children living in various favelas in Rio de Janeiro and the violence that surrounds them. It addresses the subject from a personal point of view, based on family stories and experiences. The documentary book evokes Brazil s political and social issues from a critical perspective, and links together different types of images. A participatory approach is also highlighted.

Gaétan Uldry – I NO LONGER LOVE BLUE SKIES The drone is a machine for control, surveillance and suppression that is increasingly used and improved in its technological evolution. The drone acts as a prism that recreates a new reality, filtering and annihilating the real world. The image produced is a kind of mirage, devoid of meaning. The machine creates a deliberate feeling of distance with the need to confront death. This book highlights this new reality by collecting, cropping and assembling images produced by drones to denounce the absurdity and danger of these devices for carrying out violence. It questions the status of these images, whose plasticity and aesthetics obscure and conceal the true nature of their function, which remains to control, monitor and kill.

Rongyi Tang – Veil Imagine a remarkable companion who remains by your side every hour of the day, responding to your every whim, seamlessly blending cuteness with sensuality, someone who never cheats or lies. Would you be enticed to embark on a date with such an ideal partner? What if that companion happened to be an egg timer? This project delves into the profound themes of human connections, loneliness and the nature of love in an era dominated by digital advancements. Through the unconventional concept of marrying inanimate objects, Rongyi presents a narrative that is both absurd and humorous, inviting the audience to ask a fundamental question: where do we truly invest our emotions?

Paula Mühlena – Living in a Wall: A Feasible Fantasy Living in a Wall: A Feasible Fantasy merges contemporary construction standards with design, shifting our perception of products. The project explores built-in furniture, transforming it from an isolated practice into a replicable solution. It focuses on timber frame construction and prevalent prefabrication. By integrating furniture into the development and construction process of a house, this project demonstrates how furniture becomes an integral part of a cohesive, long-term system. The project is showcased in a book that serves as a scale model and a guide, leading readers through the evolution of built-in furniture, prefabrication and design iterations for living in a wall. The 1:10 scale, engineer-approved drawings and augmented reality features ground the concept.

Cedric Oder – Skin Skin is a case for discarded smartphones. In combination with an app, it transforms the device into a child-friendly communication product. A redesigned interface allows children to explore the main functions of a phone in a more playful way while old hardware is used meaningfully. Concentration disorders, loss of creativity and imagination, and impaired development of the ocular apparatus are only a few of the consequential damages of premature smartphone usage. Skin challenges the traditional perception of tech for children and offers new conceptual and experimental solutions. Children get the opportunity to grow up with a healthier relationship to technology while being independent and connected. The aim is to create experiences with interactions that feel magical and that bring joy.

Yohanna Rieckhoff – re- club Children s feet grow quickly. Considering the need for shoes for different weather conditions, seasons and activities, the number of pairs per child is relatively high – and so is the cost for parents and even more for the planet. Shoes need to fulfil an array of consumer requirements in terms of style and function. They are composed of many parts and up to 40 different materials, including all types of plastics and glues. Hence, they are complicated to disassemble and recycle. In this context, Re- club features an everyday unisex shoe for children aged 1 to 6 that is built to be easily disassembled, allowing for recycling and refurbishing to extend the product s lifespan.

Clara Sipf – Outlaw History: Bird Invasion A couple of days ago, the birds flew into the city. Enormous flocks of all varieties of birds, plenty of crows, seagulls and sparrows. The sky became dark. Determined and angry, they swooped down on the panicked masses. Greedily they pecked the flesh of living bodies; the big birds ripped whole shreds out of them. I spotted one that the woodpeckers, with their rapid hammering movements, had carefully severed from the neck including the spinal bones and the head had rolled dully down a small slope, meeting its end in the roadside ditch. The judges must have lingered in the courthouse for some more time until a falcon threw itself like a martyr through the colourfully decorated church window and herded them out.

Fantastic Smartphones at Ars Electronica 2023,06–10.09.2023 Ars Electronica is hosting the Fantastic Smartphones exhibition from 6 to 10 September 2023 in Austria. Ars Electronica is considered to be Europe s biggest and oldest event devoted to art, technology and society. For its 2023 edition, the festival is inviting artists, scientists, developers, designers and entrepreneurs to consider the following question: Who owns the truth? A theme that touches on the main controversial issues of our time: truth and ownership, interpretative authority and sovereignty. Can truth be owned? Is there a right to truth and, if it belongs to someone, what control and responsibility are associated with it? Fantastic Smartphones takes part in the festival with a serie of interactive installations developed by the Bachelor Media & Interaction Design students of ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne, investigating in a critical and offbeat way our relationship with our smartphones and the way they influence our daily behaviour. BLI × ECAL The collaboration between the ECAL and the BLI touches on contemporary issues that are of particular concern to students at the school: our relationship with minorities and the appropriate way of representing them. For a long time, a paternalistic anthropological attitude was tolerated and even encouraged in the world of photography. Attitudes have changed, and the young artists at the ECAL have developed a relationship of equals with the various communities they have encountered. Creating the images required a language that enabled the students to position themselves in relation to others and to establish protocols in line with their own values and those of the people on the other side of the lens. The images give us a complex, multifaceted panorama of our city s cultural diversity, and show us that encounters and mixes are possible and fruitful. Matthieu Gafsou, photographer and teacher.

Directing workshop with Yann Gonzalez In partnership with La Manufacture, the Master Cinema ECAL/HEAD invited director Yann Gonzalez to take part in a directing workshop. Professor: The most crucial challenge in working on the question of theatricality was to create links between the students of the Master ECAL/HEAD, and those of La Manufacture - Stage directing Master. Theatricality is organic to my cinephilia and, indeed, to my films. By showing the students extracts from opposite ends of the spectrum, from Chantal Akerman s Toute une nuit to John Waters Desperate Living, from Daniel Schmid s Cette nuit ou jamais to a clip from Palmbomen II, I wanted to convey this idea of a plural theatricality, by turns playful and grotesque, hypnotic and lyrical. In short, theatricality as a tool for freedom. And that s what we set out to do, all of us together, during this short workshop week: to create bursts of freedom within the limits of a collective exercise with no resources - two days of preparation and reflection, two days of filming, one day of editing. Starting with a basic constraint and narrative, two groups of six students opened up their most unbridled imaginations and shared roles and functions with a group spirit that was a pleasure to behold. Yann Gonzalez, director

Documentary film workshop with Guillaume Brac 2nd year students took part in a documentary workshop led by Guillaume Brac, on the theme of friendship. Head of workshop: Guest teachers: (editing) (photogrpahy) (writing) "After a successful first experience last year, I once again had the pleasure of helping second-year students make their documentary films. This time, I didn t give them a mandate, but rather a theme - friendship - to interpret freely. What I wanted above all was to get them to film the bond, the feeling. To delve into their experiences and emotions. The watchword of the workshop was sincerity. To make the most accurate, honest film possible, in terms of point of view and relationship to the filmed subject. To find the cinematographic language, the directing, that corresponds to and resembles them. This workshop is as fascinating as it is demanding, because it involves students getting to know themselves better, as filmmakers of course, but also as people. From these almost five months of work and trial and error have emerged ten very fine films, all very personal, dealing with a wide variety of bonds. The bond with the distant or missing father, with the prisoner to whom we write, with friends left on the other side of the world, with the party gang, with the friend undergoing reconstruction, with the famous young actor, with old Michel, with God, with his dog. We cry at some, laugh at others. And we tell ourselves that making films is a great way to grow up." 1st year Documentary Workshop 1st year students took part in a documentary workshop led by Benoit Rossel, on the theme of the interview. Professor: Guest teacher (editing): For this first-year documentary workshop, I proposed making a film centered on a character with a particular link to a place. To this end, and before even confronting the real thing, the students were asked to write a purely imaginary synopsis of what their film would be. The aim of this stage was not only to explore the story they were working on, but also to narrow down their field of research. At the end of this first stage, a course was set for achieving their various goals. The search for a protagonist was the second stage, forcing them to confront and adapt to reality. But, as with filming and editing, their choices were guided by this useful and valuable preliminary work. So, in the end, all the films resonate strongly with the imagination of each and every one of them, and beyond the documentary project, they are a portrait of the filmmakers themselves, reflecting something very sensitive about the personalities of each of them. Realtime Narratives During the Realtime Narratives course, second-year students had to create a real-time narrative experience using Unreal Engine software. Based on the theme of "Chrysalis", the students developed the scenario, the graphic assets and the interactions. The aim of the project was to raise students awareness of the use of 3D realtime engines and the various links with other software specific to each stage of development. Poetry occupies a significant place in Chile s rich cultural heritage, and the Swiss embassy in Chile has taken the initiative of bringing together the heritage of Swiss graphic design with that of Chilean poetry in a project. Entitled "Paisajes poéticos de Chile", the installation is part of Suizspacio, a platform for cultural exchange between Switzerland and Chile, based at Santiago s Ñuñoa metro station. PROJECTION ECAL - LEVIATHAN,25.05.2023, 18:00,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL Filmed on a fishing boat off the coast of Boston, Leviathan pushes the boundaries of what can be filmed. The projection of this documentary that warns of the threats of intensive fishing as much as it reveals the stunning beauty of the ocean s entrails, will be followed by a meeting with its co-director, Verena Paravel. Born on April 21, 1971 in Neuchâtel (CH), Verena Paravel is a French director, artist and anthropologist. She works at the Sensory Ethnography Lab, a research center at Harvard University. Her work is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and has been screened in numerous festivals such as Berlin, Locarno, New York and Toronto. She has notably directed with Lucien Castaing-Taylor, in 2012 Leviathan, an experimental film about industrial fishing in North America, in 2017 Caniba, about and with Issei Sagawa, a Japanese man accused of killing and eating a Dutch student in Paris in 1981, and in 2022 De Humani Corporis Fabrica, a journey to the heart of the body mixing their images with those recorded by doctors. Verena Paravel is a lecturer in the ECAL/HEAD Master of Film Studies. Leviathan Documentary Directed by Lucien Castaing-Taylor, Verena Paravel Written by Lucien Castaing-Taylor, Verena Paravel United States, United Kingdom, France - 2012 - 87 minutes Filmed on an industrial fishing boat, using a dozen small digital cameras, Leviathan is a documentary of incredible formal innovation and a harrowing plunge into the ship s labyrinthine bowels. Almost entirely without dialogue, the film exposes the brutality and bloodiness of the human-nature-machine encounter. Between anthropological observation and abstract cinematic experience, Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Verena Paravel have created a monstrous and sublime audio-visual opus, whose carnage and shadowy setting add up to nothing less than a seaborne nightmare.

Unpacking Tschichold s Library,27.04–26.05.2023,Gallery l elac, ECAL From April 27 to May 26, ECAL presents Unpacking Tschichold s Library at gallery l elac. An exhibition in the form of a library presenting the books mentinoned in Jan Tschichold s seminal publication The New Typography (1928). Opening on Wednesday, April 26. Jan Tschichold s “The New Typography” is a critical essay and an operative handbook that paved the way to modern graphic design. It is a game-changing book that still attracts the interest and curiosity of design historians and practitioners after almost a century since its publication in 1928. Yet, it is simultaneously a victim of its own success, and it has to deal with the consequences associated with canonisation. Having reached an almost mythical status, the publication is often taken for granted and rarely questioned or closely scrutinized. This paradox was the starting point of the research project “The Sources of Jan Tschichold s ‘The New Typography ”. Conducted at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne and supported by the Strategic fund of HES-SO, the project reconstructed, collected and contextualized the body of bibliographical sources included in “The New Typography”. On the occasion of the opening on Wednesday, April 26, the conference "Jan Tschichold s "The New Typography": Its Roots and Impact on National Scenes" will be held at ECAL from 9:15 to 18:00. Jan Tschichold s The New Typography: Its Roots and Impact on National Scenes,26.04.2023,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, ECAL welcomes scholars from the fields of art and design history and print culture for an international conference aiming to provide a better understanding of the cultural context of Jan Tschichold s book and the typographic movement that emerged from it. Jan Tschichold s essay Die neue Typographie (The New Typography, 1928) is a game-changing book, acclaimed as the curtain raiser of modern graphic design. While it takes the form of a critical essay and an operative manual, its sources have been understudied because of their difficult identification. Yet, The New Typography is simultaneously a victim of its own success and it has to deal with the consequences associated with canonisation. Having reached an almost mythical status, The New Typography is often taken for granted and rarely questioned or closely scrutinized. This paradox was the starting point of the research project “The Sources of Jan Tschichold s The New Typography”. Conducted at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (HES-SO) and supported by the Strategic fund of HES-SO, the project reconstructed, collected and contextualized the body of bibliographical sources included in The New Typography. This international conference invites scholars in the field of art and design history and print culture to present their research. The conference aims to provide a better understanding of the larger cultural context of Tschichold s book and the typographic movement that stemmed from it. The results of the project will be presented at the conference along with keynote lectures by Dr Paul Stirton, Professor emeritus at Bard Graduate Center, New York, Dr Christopher Burke, Principal Research Fellow at University of Reading, and Dr Julia Meer, Curator of the poster and graphics collection, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. ECAL AT VISIONS DU REEL: Masterclass and films,21–30.04.2023,Théâtre de Marens, Nyon As part of the film festival Visions du Réel (April 21 to 30) in Nyon, Lucrecia Martel will give a masterclass on Tuesday, April 25, organized in partnership with La Cinémathèque suisse. Four films from ECAL Cinema Department students and alumni will also be part of the programmation. MASTERCLASS: LUCRECIA MARTEL Filmmaker and screenwriter Salta, Argentina Tuesday, April 25, 2pm Usine à Gaz 2, Nyon Visions du Réel s guest of honour Lucrecia Martel will give a masterclass, which will explore her body of work and her relationship with reality. A retrospective of her films will also be presented during the edition. Lucrecia Martel gained international fame with her first feature length film La ciénaga (2001), shot in her home region, and has since embodied the resurgence of Argentinian film, both nationally and internationally. The director s filmography, which consists of 4 feature length films and 25 titles in total (including different kinds of projects), has constantly made a mark on her country in a post-dictatorial context, as well as at the most prestigious festivals. Lucrecia Martel s films use a highly sensual cinematographical grammar to examine the existential crisis of the Argentinian middle classes, the inner workings of society and the country s suffocating social mechanism, as well as post-colonial issues. She achieves all this while relentlessly evoking, implicitly, the history of her country and the ghosts that inhabit it. Her attention to detail – particularly to sound, noise and dialogues – and the kaleidoscopic approach of her work are in keeping with a dual tradition that is both oral and adventurous in cinematographical terms, steeped in a joyous cinephilia. Rooted in the filmmaker s very familiar territories and experiences, Lucrecia Martel s body of work borrows from a multitude of genres and offers a rich and fascinating hybridisation of fiction and reality. After Terminal Norte in 2021, she is currently working on new non-fiction feature length film that should be released in 2023. Moderated by Emilie Bujès, artistic director of Visions du Réel and Paolo Moretti, head of ECAL Cinema Department. Lecture ECAL - Alain Guiraudie,18.04.2023,Auditorium Leenaards, ECAL Invited by ECAL Cinema and Fine Arts departments, the French director and artist Alain Guiraudie will give a lecture on Tuesday April 18, 2023 at 6pm. Born in 1964, Alain Guiraudie grew up in Bournazel, a village in Aveyron where his parents were farmers. After high school, he studied History in Montpellier, but stopped to work and write novels that were not published. Having above all the desire to make films, he directed a first short film, Les héros sont immortels, in 1990, followed by a second and a third. This led him to make longer films, including Du soleil pour les gueux in 2000 and Ce vieux rêve qui bouge in 2001. He has since directed 6 feature films including L Inconnu du lac and Rester vertical. The latest one, Viens je t emmène, was released in March 2022. He has also published two novels with P.O.L.: Ici commence la nuit in 2014 and Rabalaïre in 2021. He will exhibit for the first time at Panorama 2019, then at the Crèvecœur Gallery in Paris, at the Consortium Museum in Dijon and at the Daniel Buccholz Gallery in Berlin in 2023. Moderated by Paolo Moretti, head of the Cinema department and Stéphanie Moisdon, head of Master of Fine Arts.

Fiction film workshop with Thierry de Peretti The 2022 fiction film workshop was lead by Thierry de Peretti. Head of workshop: Related workshops : (cinematography) (editing) "For the fiction workshop of the second year class that the ECAL film department entrusted me with, I proposed to Camille Anker, Mégane Brugger, Pol Barrelet, Naïla Ebinger, Benjamin Eggenberger, Matteo Friberg, Donika Gashi, Rose Higorom, MariaLuisa Vaz, Hervé Ossent, to think together about the idea of "adaptation". Being myself in the throes of the exercise with my next feature film, adapted from a novel, it was a way to connect in the most obvious way with them. When we talk about adaptation we often think of the novel, but everything can be adapted, a play, a poem, a short story, a film, a part or a few lines of a novel, an article or an interview, a memory, a dream, a text that we have written ourselves. What seems important to me is the way in which one translates, understands, betrays or is faithful. I also asked them to be as economical as possible in the means they used to shoot: few shots, no camera movements, no special effects, no external (artificial) light, as few locations as possible. We were going to work together on what would be some of their first films and I wanted to encourage them to make simple, quick, clean experiments, free from the will to seduce: films of self-taught people. I was deeply touched to see how each one of them took up the exercise, sometimes with an imperious and immediate intuition, other times by taking a steeper and more worried path. Today, ten new, free proposals remain, which in the end care little about the final result. These proposals are all clear and risky, both poetically and technically: they are films behind which we recognize each of the future filmmakers they will be tomorrow." By Romain Oederlin A way to be reunited A way to be reunited is an editorial project putting in dialogue the universe and the musical, scientific and geographical references of two djs (Marcel Dettmann and Dj Stingray). By Benoît Rochat7-10 Figo Newspaper 7-10 Figo traces the biggest football transfer of the 2000s. This event takes the form of a newspaper with a double print. With a contemporary look, this project graphically materializes the snake s knot that governed this transfer, composed of political and financial stakes... as well as the violence of the fans of the clubs involved. By Antonin MaudryThe Pathmark Shooting of Old Bridge Edition This book recounts the events of the August 31, 2012 shooting at the Pathmark supermarket in Old Bridge, New Jersey. Through the numerous calls made to 911, the edition questions the trivialization of gun violence in the United States by confronting the reader with the panic of the witnesses, staged as a play. by Tessa Roy

They began by selecting a dialogue that had potential for visual creation. After identifying the graphic challenges of their subject, they defined an editorial solution. 1968 Now Live, When Politic Became TV Show Edition In the summer of 1968, the American network ABC invited two great intellectual and political figures, William Buckley and Gore Vidal, to debate the presidential election of that year. Without knowing it, it would become the channel with the lowest ratings, the one that changed the future of television debates. 1968 Now Live transcribes the 11 episodes that made up this virulent debate in the manner of a play script. Punctuated by notebooks in which the flow of images from popular culture mingles with political images, the object gives form to this moment when politics became a television show. By Alexis Gargaloni A Conversation about glacial decoy Edition Through a conversation between Trisha Brown and Yvonne Rainer, this edition presents a visual interpretation of the dance piece Glacial Decoy, created in 1979 by choreographer Trisha Brown. The images are taken from the performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in May 2009 and the excerpt lasts 1 minute and 47 seconds. In the background of the piece, large black and white images are projected, signed Rauschengerg. Four of them are always visible, moving every 30 seconds to the right. These images of heterogeneous objects and landscapes seem to belong to the same fading world. By Correspondance Edition Correspondence is a re-edition of part of the book Correspondence (1944-1959): Albert Camus / Maria Casarès. The edition gathers several letters that Albert Camus and Maria Casarès exchanged during the years 1944 to 1948. Behind each of the letters are parts of the diaries corresponding to the day they were written. The Japanese binding allows a double reading of these letters; that of the love of the two lovers and that of the historical context at that time. By Soup and Sun flowers: the urgent but delicate art of awakening consciences Edition Soup and Sunflowers emerges from the recent actions of climate activists Just stop Oil within museum institutions. It takes the form of a hybrid catalogue, which presents these different actions of civil disobedience, such as happenings, performances, or other pictorial acts of canvas destruction, already curated and presented in the museum. What is art? How can the museum elevate the debate around the climate emergency? By Agathe BourréeThe Chicago Boys Newspaper A newspaper about a group of Chilean economists trained at the University of Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s who were called the Chicago Boys. They applied Milton Friedman s free market theories to Chile after the military coup of 1973. Their neo-liberal economic policies had a significant impact on the Chilean economy and society, but have also been criticised for their social and economic consequences. Their legacy is controversial and continues to be studied today. By Hugo JauffretPrairie s Tale Edition Navigating between different programmes, the digital painting illustrates the tale Prairie s Tale written by the artist Thilda Bourqui. Service Design - 2023 During the service design course, the 3rd year of the Graphic Design, Photography and Media & Interaction Design bachelor s degree programs realized multi-media projects. A collaboration of the Visual Communication department with the theme of SDGs (*Sustainable Development Goals). The theme named "For a good cause, make the SDGS a reality" aims to develop a cause close to the heart of the different student groups. Each project is composed of at least two different supports, one primary and one secondary. The projects could therefore take any form the students deemed relevant, be it a website, editions and posters, a video sequence, or even virtual reality. The SDGs are to be achieved worldwide and by all UN member states by 2030. This means that all states must play an equal role in finding common solutions to the world s pressing challenges. Switzerland is also required to implement the objectives at national level. In addition, incentives must be created to encourage non-governmental players to make an increasingly active contribution to sustainable development. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with their 169 targets, form the core of the Agenda 2030. They reconcile the economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainable development and, for the first time, place the fight against poverty and sustainable development on the same agenda.Sex on the Lake Edition & video Sex On The Lake is a playful, popular science book. In the form of an illustrated story, the book presents all the players involved in the feminization of fish and explains their respective responsibilities. This serious phenomenon is not yet widely publicized. Our case study, the disappearance of river trout from Lake Leman, deals with the subject in a precise way, to reach a wider audience. Today s wastewater treatment plants do not filter chemical waste. This waste, these micropollutants, ends up in the water, threatening the biodiversity of aquatic environments. A short video to poetically raise awareness of the feminization of fish. In contrast to the book, the impact of the various players is dealt with in flashback. The video takes the point of view of the fish, so that the viewer is touched by the problem. The colors, formal aspects and titling are consistent with the book. By , & Pour mieux vivre ensemble Edition & video/teaser Pour mieux vivre ensemble is a project aimed at promoting sustainable neighborhoods. The aim of this edition is to summarize and popularize the concept of eco-neighborhoods, based on concrete examples of structures already established in Switzerland. Its main objective is to promote the emergence, realization and understanding of these living spaces which, in response to the current global crisis, seem to represent a most interesting solution. By Laeticia Jakob , Julien Caulet , Ilaria Citti ile verte Edition & website New housing is being built all the time to meet growing demand. However, the Ile verte project questions the place of plants in urban environments. Its aim is to raise public awareness of the many benefits it brings to the environment around our homes. With sustainability and ecology in mind, we looked at ways of revitalizing existing areas. In a carefully crafted edition, combining individual testimonials, informative texts and photographic images, we present the project from an entertaining angle. In this way, we give readers the opportunity to construct their own images, thanks to a subtle play on transparency. As for our website, which serves as a second medium, it reveals the major themes addressed in our edition. By Tony Altermatt , Jeanne Weber , Romain OederlinOutburst Fanzine & Website Despite recent waves of feminism, ordinary sexism is still trivialized and invisible in privileged circles. It was against this backdrop that OUTBURST n°1 was born, the first in a series of leaflets designed to provide information on discrimination against women in the workplace. In the form of a malleable, playful brochure, this project allows for rapid distribution, while being easily reproducible, in order to make information accessible to the new generation. The brochure is designed to offer several levels of reading, including testimonials, articles and real-life situations, to better grasp the issues at stake in this crucial subject. As a second support, an interactive web experience offers an overview of the brochure s content, enabling direct promotion of the project via an online medium. By , & VIF Website & Instagram It s not uncommon for students to put aside sports or other physical activities in favor of their studies. Unfortunately, this trend has a negative impact on their physical and mental well-being, leading to a loss of motivation. This is where the VIF platform comes into its own. Its aim is to inform the residents of Lausanne about the different places offering a variety of physical activities adapted to each individual. Whether you prefer to practice a sport alone, in a duo, find a team or even join a club for the more determined, VIF guides you towards the best options. What s more, in order to fully convince you, VIF makes it its duty to find the most affordable offers for even the tightest budgets. If you hold a HES student card or are a 3rd year gymnasium student in Switzerland, or if you belong to the HES-UNIL-EPFL community, the CHUV, the SIFO, the CIO, or the BCV, this platform is specially designed for you. By , , Petit manifeste de l information Book, Video & poster Recent events remind us of the importance of having access to reliable, verified, quality infomartion. Censorship, conspiracy theories and the issues raised by new platforms are all challenges for today s journalists. Through this project, we aim to raise awareness of journalistic professions and their importance in our societies. By synthesizing UNESCO s "Manual for Journalism Education and Training", we are making it accessible in a small pocket book for the general public. The project is visually guided by a bubble, a metaphor for the magnifying glass and investigation. The bubble makes the guide fun, gives it a sense of identity and creates a link between digital and printed media. By , & The Legal Clock Journal & teaser The project aims to address the harmful consequences of a lack of free and informed access to sexual, reproductive and family health. We focus here on the obstacles encountered during the abortion process. In some cases, these lead to the use of unsafe methods of termination, which can have serious consequences for both physical and mental health, including death. In "The Legal Clock", we take stock of the different situations in Europe from a geographical point of view, and present the different abortion methods available. With the aim of informing and demystifying the way procedures are carried out, we also present testimonials from people who have had a safe, clandestine abortion, and from those who have not been able to access an abortion. By , & NEO Website & posters The project, in the form of a website, retraces the path of pesticides, whose presence spreads throughout the pollination process. From its first use on plants, to its consumption in the form of honey, the journey takes visual form in a series of photos, somewhere between docu-fiction and archive. It is accompanied by a narrative text, facts and the consequences for the environment and living beings at each stage. By , & ≥92 Edition & video The edition uses contextual elements such as statistics, articles and other documents to provide a context for nuclear energy consumption and its implications and risks. Following this, a final section presents elements of semiotics related to the management of nuclear waste. In this way, the reader acquires the necessary tools to understand the consequences of nuclear consumption. The video serves as a teaser for the edition, taking certain elements and codes present in the book and representing them in a dystopian future, in order to materialize this temporal distance that may seem abstract. By , & CORAL VIRUS Edition & instagram BLUE is a quarterly magazine that aims to raise readers awareness of the threats facing aquatic ecosystems, oceans, rivers and their inhabitants. It is aimed at people who are sensitive to environmental issues, eager to discover and learn about contemporary problems and solutions linked to water preservation. The very first issue of this publication, entitled "Coral Virus", looks at the phenomenon of coral bleaching and the slow disappearance of corals worldwide. The magazine s mission is to inform readers about the causes and consequences of this phenomenon, while presenting current solutions. In addition to raising awareness of our individual responsibilities, this issue aims to challenge and re-evaluate our perception of corals and their preservation. It also features interviews with enthusiasts of the subject, as well as with a renowned researcher from the University of Lausanne. BLUE magazine has an Instagram account, under the name blue.magazine.ch, which aims to be an interactive, dynamic and proactive space in its publications. We regularly share news about the aquatic world and relay the work of organizations committed to protecting water resources. By Arthur Lucchesi , Eloïse Genoud , Yan Miranda

Le livre d artiste - 22-23 As part of the publishing course led by Anouk Schneider and Chi-Long Trieu, 2nd year Visual Communication students had the opportunity to design an artist s book during the first semester. This book project stands out for its contemporary approach aimed at creating an editorial object that harmoniously integrates form and content in the current context of the editorial landscape. Students were encouraged to exploit their artistic freedom at all levels of creation, whether in terms of format, choice of paper, binding, layout, illustrations, text or typography. As part of this course, the artist s book can take shape through various illustration modalities, such as photography, reproduction, contextualization, drawing, 3D, etc. The emphasis is on the author s artistic vision and the means implemented to realize it. Students take on multiple roles as editor, curator and architect, covering the responsibilities of artistic director, designer, photographer, stylist, illustrator, typographer, editor-in-chief, and editorial secretary. This course highlights contemporary editorial design by exploring the narrative potential of a sequence of controlled content.
