So how can we live better Beyond questions of functionality, comfort and individual or collective well-being, the built environment is able to respond in a stimulating way to societal, energy and environmental challenges. The work space, the living space, the public space, the interior space, the street, are carried by real statements of intent that motivate their forms, following certain principles such as climate transition, densification, ecology and energy transition.... The 2nd year Graphic Design students worked on the production of a communication based on one of these principles (or others) and on the architectural realization which refers to it in order to promote it. The hours Edition Time is an elusive element dictated by architectural elements or objects, but this reissue of The hours takes us to a more fundamental and biological vision. By Srumenti per guardare la natura Edition By État des Lieux Edition & Animation There s the dock, the bench and the fish bench. But the most pleasant bench is the public bench. Accessible to all, it offers a supposedly charming view that we all share. Only one person won t see the same thing as the other. So I chose a bench and tied two envelopes to it. The first envelope contains blank pieces of paper measuring nine by six centimetres and a grey pencil. On it is written: "Take a piece of paper and answer the following question: What do you see? Then put your answer in the other envelope. The second envelope is empty and unmarked. État des lieux transcribes the results of this extraordinary experiment. By L atelier Edition Book about the life and work of my grandfather and artist Pierre Noël Bergendi. The content is made up of images and texts from his personal archives found at the Atelier. All the documents are arranged chronologically and are supplemented by transcriptions of notes from his calendars. Links between the images have been added to show the global aspect of his work. By Rome was not build in 5.5 years Edition Waiting is inevitable in daily life, whether it s in store queues or public transportation. This waiting time can significantly influence our perception of time. By becoming aware of the time we spend waiting, which accumulates to 5.5 years over a lifetime, we can better understand its value. Comparing this waiting time to the duration required to build famous architectural monuments, we realize how precious it is. This analysis highlights the importance of managing our waiting time productively, using it for meaningful activities, personal reflection, or productivity. In summary, becoming aware of the impact of waiting in our lives encourages us to use these moments more intentionally. By

Ilù Seydoux – Avant l Océan (sound) My graduation work in sound engineering involved recording and sound editing the film Avant l Océan, directed by Ilan Dubi. Having participated in the entire creative process from writing to mixing, this wide-ranging graduation work develops the sound of a film that focuses on a stage in the life of a teenager.

Yann Fankhauser – Étendard du marcheur This project is a print on a PVC tarpaulin (2500 mm x 1200 mm) of 18 silhouettes in boxes forming a black and white checkerboard. The development of the project was done from hand-made sketches, then digitised with Illustrator and arranged in a checkerboard. These sketches of silhouettes were made through various processes: 1) the modification of an initial silhouette to create a new one, 2) the juxtaposition of several silhouettes with each other, and 3) by illustrating a new angle of a silhouette already created. The concept revisits the idea of a motor-racing finish flag, transforming it into an endless journey, playing on the boundary between the figurative and the abstract in the image of pareidolia.

Alexandra Sensi – Self-Reflection Self-Reflection is a social experiment that takes an ironic look at the impact of image within our society. It highlights the importance of self-perception in social norms. The installation overlays the user s reflection onto a digital game through a one-way mirror. This immerses each individual in both the game and a confrontation with their own reflection. Throughout our progress, we encounter situations that reveal how our self-perception influences our behaviour and plays a role in our social constructions. This project is driven by personal reasons and a background in psychology and social sciences, furthering an interest in human mechanisms, psychological analysis and the desire to help.

Jeanne Weber – Dusky Large Blue Dusky Large Blue is a web experience that raises awareness of the impact of human activities on endangered species. This project is part of the context of the Grande Cariçaie reserve with which I have collaborated for its realisation. A fictional walk leads the visitor through five stations, each of which approaches an endangered species. Dusky Large Blue is a prototype that presents a specific case: the life cycle of the Dusky Large Blue, a species of butterfly. The visitor also discovers which problems are linked to its life cycle in the reserve and outside it. This project has allowed me both to develop a subject that is close to my heart and to offer an alternative version of a specific environment by superimposing a personal visual and auditory approach to reality.

Ianka Jean-Marie – HYPER-OBJETS Part art book, part science textbook, this meta-encyclopaedia evokes the risks of global warming. Going beyond the usual paradigms of the Anthropocene era, these phenomena are known as HYPER-OBJECTS. Through the reading of a simplified language, this system of mental maps conceptualises these complex phenomena. In the context of the ecological crisis, the materialisation of this ecological thinking allows us to measure our impact, while reinterpreting the phenomenon of the end of the world in a more tangible way. Through this visual archaeology, we search for traces of our contemporary civilisation, questioning our relationship with the future. In truth, doesn t this object bear witness to the destructive movement of the end of the world?

Marjolaine Rey – Ici prochainement votre appartement Ici Prochainement Votre Appartement is the transition from private property to public space. On the eve of moving out of the family home, but especially in view of its imminent demolition, I have placed La Maison (The House) in a brand-new space, i.e. a book. This book, more than a personal monologue, is an invitation to enter through text and image. From the gate to the garden to the door, all the way to the attic, where the library lies. Iconography drawn from this library has an impact on the layout of the entire volume. The space of the book is my playground. The quarto format conceals half of the content between the pages. It is up to the readers to decide whether or not they want to enter each room of La Maison when they visit. Welcome to my home, soon to be yours…

Eloïse Genoud – INSIDE “INSIDE is a project that focuses on contemporary dance, movement and the human body. It stems from my deep passion for dance and aims to capture the essence of this art form from a personal perspective. Drawing from my 18 years of experience as a dancer, I strive to bring forth the energy, collective spirit and love for the stage that is inherent in this art form. INSIDE alludes to that special moment of stepping into the spotlight, where bodies and light come together in a profound connection. This work is not a documentary on dance, but rather an experimental journey where individuals merge into a common entity. A major part of the project was staged, requiring choreography and active participation in the dances designed exclusively for this production.“

Amandine Kuhlmann – Cash Me Online Cash Me Online is a video project where I stage myself, combining performance with found footage. With the goal of achieving viral fame, I embrace delusion and despair in this exploration, which delves into the impact of cameras in the era of social media. Through a hyper-feminine digital alter ego based on my own algorithm, I perform in virtual and physical realms, fulfilling desires and aspirations. The project questions self-representation and the female gaze in the presence of empowered women on screen. The project examines tensions between toxic feminine tropes and how women reclaim them for empowerment. Found footage combined with a deepfake of my own face serves as a visual album, revealing content diversity and standardisation, introducing ambiguity in notions of dysmorphia.

Ambre Tuttle – A(r)table Eating used to be a basic need, but today aesthetics have never been so important at the table. As cooking evolves into art, let us turn our food into unique creations, ephemeral experiences and vectors of identity. A(r)table is a collection of objects that result from a search focused on visual impact and how we present our dishes. This project assumes that pleasure resides as much in the tasting as in the confection. The plate becomes an empty canvas for drawing, tracing and composing, calling for creativity. Paying attention to the appearance of our dishes may seem pointless, but it is the very origin of our desire to eat. The pleasure of tasting starts with our imagination, and sublimating our plates is also sublimating a moment.

Quirk85 Quirk 85 started with the discovery by Kim Minjong of a fascinating Branding Manual from Korea dating from the late 70s and early 80s. Sharing a mutual fascination for logotypes and corporate items, he paired with Juan Jun Feng to embark on a journey that transcends cultural boundaries. Both born in the 90s, they unearthed striking similarities in their childhood experience, at a time when both China and Korea went through distinctive paths toward economic development, resulting in indelible impressions from brainwashing advertisement, the rapid transformation of cities, and the overwhelming wave of technological innovation. A time of iconic design, that the two type designers explored through cultural narratives and historical context. Quirk 85 is a fusion of those elements: impact of commercialisation, the intricate web of education, production, daily life, healthcare and more. By bridging their two distinct nations, they aspire to evoke a sense of shared identity and collective memory, inviting viewers to embark on a visual and intellectual journey.

Tant qu il n y a pas de frottement, le mouvement sera continu,01.06–24.09.2023,Espace Mercerie, Lausanne An exhibition presented by second-year Bachelor of Visual Arts students at the ECAL, as part of the "faits et gestes" course taught by Philippe Decrauzat, in collaboration with VU.CH, art in hospital. "Rue Mercerie" has always been a hotbed of artistic activity. Between 1970 and 1996, the Rivolta gallery exhibited a large number of modern and contemporary artists. In this cobbled street, which has been linked to Lausanne s art history for many years, a common reflection was born: how can an exhibition space be shaped and questioned? A connection is made between the outside and the inside of the art space. The main feature of the street, its severe slope, is transposed into the space in the form of an oblique platform. Various works are presented on this platform, blending the collective with the individual. By modifying the floor, the behaviour usually adopted in an exhibition space is disturbed. The traditional point of view is disrupted, allowing a different approach to the space and the works. Audiences are invited to descend into this space and experience what this layout can offer. The impact not only of the space but also of the history of the place on the experience of an art installation is reminiscent of a principle that underpins the VU.CH programme at the CHUV - Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois. Art in the hospital context is much the same as in a museum or gallery, but it is experienced differently, not least because of the configuration of the spaces.DATES AND SCHEDULEFrom 1 June to 24 September 2023 Open every Saturday, 11am-2pm Free entryADDRESSEspace Mercerie Rue Mercerie 22 1003 LausanneWEBSITEvu.chuv.chOPENINGThursday 1st June, 6pmSTUDENTS, , , , , , , , , , , Seline Symons, dans le cadre du cours faits et gestes donné par .

PROJECTION ECAL - LEVIATHAN,25.05.2023, 18:00,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL Filmed on a fishing boat off the coast of Boston, Leviathan pushes the boundaries of what can be filmed. The projection of this documentary that warns of the threats of intensive fishing as much as it reveals the stunning beauty of the ocean s entrails, will be followed by a meeting with its co-director, Verena Paravel. Born on April 21, 1971 in Neuchâtel (CH), Verena Paravel is a French director, artist and anthropologist. She works at the Sensory Ethnography Lab, a research center at Harvard University. Her work is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and has been screened in numerous festivals such as Berlin, Locarno, New York and Toronto. She has notably directed with Lucien Castaing-Taylor, in 2012 Leviathan, an experimental film about industrial fishing in North America, in 2017 Caniba, about and with Issei Sagawa, a Japanese man accused of killing and eating a Dutch student in Paris in 1981, and in 2022 De Humani Corporis Fabrica, a journey to the heart of the body mixing their images with those recorded by doctors. Verena Paravel is a lecturer in the ECAL/HEAD Master of Film Studies. Leviathan Documentary Directed by Lucien Castaing-Taylor, Verena Paravel Written by Lucien Castaing-Taylor, Verena Paravel United States, United Kingdom, France - 2012 - 87 minutes Filmed on an industrial fishing boat, using a dozen small digital cameras, Leviathan is a documentary of incredible formal innovation and a harrowing plunge into the ship s labyrinthine bowels. Almost entirely without dialogue, the film exposes the brutality and bloodiness of the human-nature-machine encounter. Between anthropological observation and abstract cinematic experience, Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Verena Paravel have created a monstrous and sublime audio-visual opus, whose carnage and shadowy setting add up to nothing less than a seaborne nightmare.

Unpacking Tschichold s Library,27.04–26.05.2023,Gallery l elac, ECAL From April 27 to May 26, ECAL presents Unpacking Tschichold s Library at gallery l elac. An exhibition in the form of a library presenting the books mentinoned in Jan Tschichold s seminal publication The New Typography (1928). Opening on Wednesday, April 26. Jan Tschichold s “The New Typography” is a critical essay and an operative handbook that paved the way to modern graphic design. It is a game-changing book that still attracts the interest and curiosity of design historians and practitioners after almost a century since its publication in 1928. Yet, it is simultaneously a victim of its own success, and it has to deal with the consequences associated with canonisation. Having reached an almost mythical status, the publication is often taken for granted and rarely questioned or closely scrutinized. This paradox was the starting point of the research project “The Sources of Jan Tschichold s ‘The New Typography ”. Conducted at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne and supported by the Strategic fund of HES-SO, the project reconstructed, collected and contextualized the body of bibliographical sources included in “The New Typography”. On the occasion of the opening on Wednesday, April 26, the conference "Jan Tschichold s "The New Typography": Its Roots and Impact on National Scenes" will be held at ECAL from 9:15 to 18:00. Jan Tschichold s The New Typography: Its Roots and Impact on National Scenes,26.04.2023,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, ECAL welcomes scholars from the fields of art and design history and print culture for an international conference aiming to provide a better understanding of the cultural context of Jan Tschichold s book and the typographic movement that emerged from it. Jan Tschichold s essay Die neue Typographie (The New Typography, 1928) is a game-changing book, acclaimed as the curtain raiser of modern graphic design. While it takes the form of a critical essay and an operative manual, its sources have been understudied because of their difficult identification. Yet, The New Typography is simultaneously a victim of its own success and it has to deal with the consequences associated with canonisation. Having reached an almost mythical status, The New Typography is often taken for granted and rarely questioned or closely scrutinized. This paradox was the starting point of the research project “The Sources of Jan Tschichold s The New Typography”. Conducted at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (HES-SO) and supported by the Strategic fund of HES-SO, the project reconstructed, collected and contextualized the body of bibliographical sources included in The New Typography. This international conference invites scholars in the field of art and design history and print culture to present their research. The conference aims to provide a better understanding of the larger cultural context of Tschichold s book and the typographic movement that stemmed from it. The results of the project will be presented at the conference along with keynote lectures by Dr Paul Stirton, Professor emeritus at Bard Graduate Center, New York, Dr Christopher Burke, Principal Research Fellow at University of Reading, and Dr Julia Meer, Curator of the poster and graphics collection, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. ECAL MILANO 2023: The Salone Pick-Up,18–23.04.2023,Salone Satellite On the occasion of the Milan Design Week (17-23 April 2023), ECAL presents The Salone Pick-Up by the designer Silvio Rebholz, Master Product Design graduate: a series of interviews streamed live on Instagram and hosted between Salone Satellite and Salone del Mobile, with key players at the fair. For his diploma project On the way to work with presented in 2021, Silvio Rebholz accompanied designers, artists or other creative professionals on their way to work – a daily commute from private to professional life. To do so, he designed a camera device adapted to the guests and their means of transport. These tailor-made objects created a surprising interview setting and highlighted the guests personalities and their passion for their profession. As a follow-up, The Salone Pick-Up is a series of interviews hosted at Milan Furniture Fair and streamed live on Instagram. Designers and curators will be picked-up at Salone del Mobile by Silvio Rebholz to start the travelling interview on their way to Salone Satellite, where a booth awaits them. Once there, predefined questions challenge the guests by asking for their views on how the future generation of designers can meet today s big challenges. ECAL Milano 2023: U.F.O.G.O.,18–23.04.2023,Spazio Orso 16, Milano On the occasion of the Milan Design Week (17-23 April 2023), ECAL presents U.F.O.G.O., an exhibition that provides a solution for a better integration of wind turbines in our landscapes. In 2023, the significant role of renewable energies in tackling the energy crisis is blatant. In this context, wind turbines are once again seen as a promising idea. However, concerns about their environmental and social impact represent a significant obstacle to their deployment: how can we respond to the problem of their visual intrusion in the landscape? ECAL addresses this issue by emphasising the importance of design in the creative process. Convinced that, should design be placed at the heart of the thought process, wind turbines could fit into our landscapes not only sensitively, but beautifully, Master Product Design students present eight innovative projects. In October 2022, sixteen Master students travelled to Fogo Island (Newfoundland, Canada), a particularly windy region whose climate makes it an ideal location for the deployment of environmentally friendly electricity generation devices. In collaboration with the Shorefast Foundation of Fogo Island, the young designers immersed themselves in the landscape and explored ways to meet the needs of the inhabitants, while taking into account logistical imperatives and environmental constraints. Produced in consultation with engineers from HEIG-VD/School of Management and Engineering Vaud, the models integrate the technical, technological and legal principles necessary for their implementation. Through their subtle design, they bring innovative, reality-based solutions, favouring their acceptance by local populations. Depending on the project, the wind turbines respond to existing problems or current needs. EVIND is designed to enable the charging of electric cars. PNEUM, whose structure is actually a greenhouse, supports food production and self-sufficiency. PYRE offers an alternative to expensive imported building materials through 3D printing. WINDSEED is an offshore wind turbine with a structure that supports seaweed farming – a booming economy on the island. Others tell the story of Fogo Island, its long history of fishing industry and its unique architecture. The island is home to old fish processing factories that could become the foundation of RR REUSE, a model that enhances cultural and historical heritage. CLIFFHANGER seeks to approximate the architecture of the island s traditional stilt houses. FOGO FLAGS, decorated with flags and located on the edge of the coastline, positions itself as the symbol of Fogo, providing a first impression for visitors upon their arrival. For air safety reasons, wind turbines can only be white, but FLO bypasses this restriction with a relief texture that features a palette of colours when viewed from the ground, becoming a landmark in the landscape. U.F.O.G.O. is the presentation of these eight prospective but realistic projects, which open new paths and push boundaries. As a media partner of the exhibition, design journal Disegno has presented the research and its results in a publication. In collaboration with the Shorefast Foundation of Fogo Island (Newfoundland, Canada) et la HEIG-VD/School of Engineering and Management. As a media partner of the exhibition, design journal Disegno has presented the research and its results in a publication available at the exhibition site.

ECAL MILANO 2023: ECAL for Schätti,18–23.04.2023,Assab One On the occasion of the Milan Design Week (17-23 April 2023), ECAL and the Swiss lighting brand Schätti present five playful and innovative portable lamps. A significant research and development effort is devoted to this technology. Light is being redefined.” A premise that ECAL students followed to create portable, battery powered LED lamps. The result is a multifunctional collection featuring the potential of this technology. Collapsible or foldable, wall or desk lamp, portable and rechargeable, indoor or outdoor: the selection translates Schätti expertise and ECAL students creative minds.

Lecture ECAL - Alain Guiraudie,18.04.2023,Auditorium Leenaards, ECAL Invited by ECAL Cinema and Fine Arts departments, the French director and artist Alain Guiraudie will give a lecture on Tuesday April 18, 2023 at 6pm. Born in 1964, Alain Guiraudie grew up in Bournazel, a village in Aveyron where his parents were farmers. After high school, he studied History in Montpellier, but stopped to work and write novels that were not published. Having above all the desire to make films, he directed a first short film, Les héros sont immortels, in 1990, followed by a second and a third. This led him to make longer films, including Du soleil pour les gueux in 2000 and Ce vieux rêve qui bouge in 2001. Dialogue As part of the publishing course taught by Gilles Gavillet and Jonathan Hares, the 3rd year students worked on the layout of dialogue. They began by selecting a dialogue that had potential for visual creation. After identifying the graphic challenges of their subject, they defined an editorial solution. 1968 Now Live, When Politic Became TV Show Edition In the summer of 1968, the American network ABC invited two great intellectual and political figures, William Buckley and Gore Vidal, to debate the presidential election of that year. Without knowing it, it would become the channel with the lowest ratings, the one that changed the future of television debates. 1968 Now Live transcribes the 11 episodes that made up this virulent debate in the manner of a play script. Punctuated by notebooks in which the flow of images from popular culture mingles with political images, the object gives form to this moment when politics became a television show. By Alexis Gargaloni A Conversation about glacial decoy Edition Through a conversation between Trisha Brown and Yvonne Rainer, this edition presents a visual interpretation of the dance piece Glacial Decoy, created in 1979 by choreographer Trisha Brown. The images are taken from the performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in May 2009 and the excerpt lasts 1 minute and 47 seconds. In the background of the piece, large black and white images are projected, signed Rauschengerg. Four of them are always visible, moving every 30 seconds to the right. These images of heterogeneous objects and landscapes seem to belong to the same fading world. By Correspondance Edition Correspondence is a re-edition of part of the book Correspondence (1944-1959): Albert Camus / Maria Casarès. The edition gathers several letters that Albert Camus and Maria Casarès exchanged during the years 1944 to 1948. Behind each of the letters are parts of the diaries corresponding to the day they were written. The Japanese binding allows a double reading of these letters; that of the love of the two lovers and that of the historical context at that time. By Soup and Sun flowers: the urgent but delicate art of awakening consciences Edition Soup and Sunflowers emerges from the recent actions of climate activists Just stop Oil within museum institutions. It takes the form of a hybrid catalogue, which presents these different actions of civil disobedience, such as happenings, performances, or other pictorial acts of canvas destruction, already curated and presented in the museum. What is art? How can the museum elevate the debate around the climate emergency? By Agathe BourréeThe Chicago Boys Newspaper A newspaper about a group of Chilean economists trained at the University of Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s who were called the Chicago Boys. They applied Milton Friedman s free market theories to Chile after the military coup of 1973. Their neo-liberal economic policies had a significant impact on the Chilean economy and society, but have also been criticised for their social and economic consequences. Their legacy is controversial and continues to be studied today. By Hugo JauffretPrairie s Tale Edition Navigating between different programmes, the digital painting illustrates the tale Prairie s Tale written by the artist Thilda Bourqui. In it we follow the adventure of the princess Prairie who, in disagreement with the patriarchal values of the castle, will find a new way of life in the forest and in the more-than-human world. ECAL Lecture - Christian Marclay,08.03.2023, 18:00,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL Invited by ECAL Bachelor Photography, the Californian visual artist Christian Marclay will lead a conference on Wednesday March 8, 2023, moderated by Nathalie Herschdorfer, Director of Photo Elysée. Born in 1955 in California, Christian Marclay spent his youth in Switzerland and studied in Geneva at the Ecole supérieure d art visuel, then moved to Boston where he continued his training at the Massachusetts College of Art. A visual artist, but also a composer and musician, Marclay creates polymorphous works that navigate between acoustic performances, videos, audiovisual installations, photographs and collages. In 2009, he received the Meret Oppenheim Award for lifetime achievement. In 2011, he won the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the Venice Biennale with The Clock, a twenty-four hour video work in which the artist juxtaposes thousands of excerpts of clock shots taken from the cinema and reports on the passage of time. He has exhibited at the Kunsthaus Aarau, the MAMCO in Geneva, the Paula Cooper Gallery and the Whitney Museum in New York, and more recently at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Moderation by Nathalie Herschdorfer, Director of Photo Elysée.

Service Design - 2023 During the service design course, the 3rd year of the Graphic Design, Photography and Media & Interaction Design bachelor s degree programs realized multi-media projects. A collaboration of the Visual Communication department with the theme of SDGs (*Sustainable Development Goals). The theme named "For a good cause, make the SDGS a reality" aims to develop a cause close to the heart of the different student groups. Each project is composed of at least two different supports, one primary and one secondary. The projects could therefore take any form the students deemed relevant, be it a website, editions and posters, a video sequence, or even virtual reality. The SDGs are to be achieved worldwide and by all UN member states by 2030. This means that all states must play an equal role in finding common solutions to the world s pressing challenges. Switzerland is also required to implement the objectives at national level. In addition, incentives must be created to encourage non-governmental players to make an increasingly active contribution to sustainable development. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with their 169 targets, form the core of the Agenda 2030. They reconcile the economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainable development and, for the first time, place the fight against poverty and sustainable development on the same agenda.Sex on the Lake Edition & video Sex On The Lake is a playful, popular science book. In the form of an illustrated story, the book presents all the players involved in the feminization of fish and explains their respective responsibilities. This serious phenomenon is not yet widely publicized. Our case study, the disappearance of river trout from Lake Leman, deals with the subject in a precise way, to reach a wider audience. Today s wastewater treatment plants do not filter chemical waste. This waste, these micropollutants, ends up in the water, threatening the biodiversity of aquatic environments. A short video to poetically raise awareness of the feminization of fish. In contrast to the book, the impact of the various players is dealt with in flashback. The video takes the point of view of the fish, so that the viewer is touched by the problem. The colors, formal aspects and titling are consistent with the book. By , & Pour mieux vivre ensemble Edition & video/teaser Pour mieux vivre ensemble is a project aimed at promoting sustainable neighborhoods. The aim of this edition is to summarize and popularize the concept of eco-neighborhoods, based on concrete examples of structures already established in Switzerland. Its main objective is to promote the emergence, realization and understanding of these living spaces which, in response to the current global crisis, seem to represent a most interesting solution. By Laeticia Jakob , Julien Caulet , Ilaria Citti ile verte Edition & website New housing is being built all the time to meet growing demand. However, the Ile verte project questions the place of plants in urban environments. Its aim is to raise public awareness of the many benefits it brings to the environment around our homes. With sustainability and ecology in mind, we looked at ways of revitalizing existing areas. In a carefully crafted edition, combining individual testimonials, informative texts and photographic images, we present the project from an entertaining angle. In this way, we give readers the opportunity to construct their own images, thanks to a subtle play on transparency. As for our website, which serves as a second medium, it reveals the major themes addressed in our edition. By Tony Altermatt , Jeanne Weber , Romain OederlinOutburst Fanzine & Website Despite recent waves of feminism, ordinary sexism is still trivialized and invisible in privileged circles. It was against this backdrop that OUTBURST n°1 was born, the first in a series of leaflets designed to provide information on discrimination against women in the workplace. In the form of a malleable, playful brochure, this project allows for rapid distribution, while being easily reproducible, in order to make information accessible to the new generation. The brochure is designed to offer several levels of reading, including testimonials, articles and real-life situations, to better grasp the issues at stake in this crucial subject. As a second support, an interactive web experience offers an overview of the brochure s content, enabling direct promotion of the project via an online medium. By , & VIF Website & Instagram It s not uncommon for students to put aside sports or other physical activities in favor of their studies. Unfortunately, this trend has a negative impact on their physical and mental well-being, leading to a loss of motivation. This is where the VIF platform comes into its own. Its aim is to inform the residents of Lausanne about the different places offering a variety of physical activities adapted to each individual. Whether you prefer to practice a sport alone, in a duo, find a team or even join a club for the more determined, VIF guides you towards the best options. What s more, in order to fully convince you, VIF makes it its duty to find the most affordable offers for even the tightest budgets. If you hold a HES student card or are a 3rd year gymnasium student in Switzerland, or if you belong to the HES-UNIL-EPFL community, the CHUV, the SIFO, the CIO, or the BCV, this platform is specially designed for you. By , , Petit manifeste de l information Book, Video & poster Recent events remind us of the importance of having access to reliable, verified, quality infomartion. Censorship, conspiracy theories and the issues raised by new platforms are all challenges for today s journalists. Through this project, we aim to raise awareness of journalistic professions and their importance in our societies. By synthesizing UNESCO s "Manual for Journalism Education and Training", we are making it accessible in a small pocket book for the general public. The project is visually guided by a bubble, a metaphor for the magnifying glass and investigation. The bubble makes the guide fun, gives it a sense of identity and creates a link between digital and printed media. By , & The Legal Clock Journal & teaser The project aims to address the harmful consequences of a lack of free and informed access to sexual, reproductive and family health. We focus here on the obstacles encountered during the abortion process. In some cases, these lead to the use of unsafe methods of termination, which can have serious consequences for both physical and mental health, including death. In "The Legal Clock", we take stock of the different situations in Europe from a geographical point of view, and present the different abortion methods available. With the aim of informing and demystifying the way procedures are carried out, we also present testimonials from people who have had a safe, clandestine abortion, and from those who have not been able to access an abortion. By , & NEO Website & posters The project, in the form of a website, retraces the path of pesticides, whose presence spreads throughout the pollination process. From its first use on plants, to its consumption in the form of honey, the journey takes visual form in a series of photos, somewhere between docu-fiction and archive. It is accompanied by a narrative text, facts and the consequences for the environment and living beings at each stage. By , & ≥92 Edition & video The edition uses contextual elements such as statistics, articles and other documents to provide a context for nuclear energy consumption and its implications and risks. Following this, a final section presents elements of semiotics related to the management of nuclear waste. In this way, the reader acquires the necessary tools to understand the consequences of nuclear consumption. The video serves as a teaser for the edition, taking certain elements and codes present in the book and representing them in a dystopian future, in order to materialize this temporal distance that may seem abstract. By , & CORAL VIRUS Edition & instagram BLUE is a quarterly magazine that aims to raise readers awareness of the threats facing aquatic ecosystems, oceans, rivers and their inhabitants. It is aimed at people who are sensitive to environmental issues, eager to discover and learn about contemporary problems and solutions linked to water preservation. The very first issue of this publication, entitled "Coral Virus", looks at the phenomenon of coral bleaching and the slow disappearance of corals worldwide. The magazine s mission is to inform readers about the causes and consequences of this phenomenon, while presenting current solutions. In addition to raising awareness of our individual responsibilities, this issue aims to challenge and re-evaluate our perception of corals and their preservation. It also features interviews with enthusiasts of the subject, as well as with a renowned researcher from the University of Lausanne. BLUE magazine has an Instagram account, under the name blue.magazine.ch, which aims to be an interactive, dynamic and proactive space in its publications. We regularly share news about the aquatic world and relay the work of organizations committed to protecting water resources. By Arthur Lucchesi , Eloïse Genoud , Yan Miranda

Soft Power Under the direction of Christophe Guberan, the students used their design talents to rethink an everyday object that consumes more energy than it should, using their powers of observation to choose a type of contemporary object that consumes energy and reduce its dependence on energy during use. Design as a discipline of innovation, can play a key role in improving the energy impact of a product. The intensive use of energy resources that were thought to be unlimited, such as electricity, is now being called into question. The current situation is all the more alarming: governments are preparing for possible energy shortages (fossil fuels, electricity, etc.). It is in this worrying context that design has a duty to provide a concrete response to future needs while respecting the use of our resources.

Much Faster, Much Slower Second year Interaction Design students developped a messaging app centered around the theme of “Much Faster / Much Slower”. The goal is to create a unique mobile messaging app that offers a distinctive experience compared to existing instant messaging apps. The project explores the impact of technology on our relationship with speed and communication. It focuses on how advancements in technologies have shaped our experiences and preferences for speed. The project also looks at the role of instant messaging apps in changing the way we communicate and interact, taking up a significant amount of our daily engagement time. The goal is to translate this fascination with speed and slowness into innovative interaction design concepts related to communication. NOMAD NOMAD aims to elevate conversations with loved ones, creating a sense of special and unique moments where both parties feel truly connected. This is achieved through key features such as appointment management, live streaming during chats, and a typewriter tool that adds a natural flow to the conversation. By combining space and time into one platform, NOMAD elevates the essence of meaningful conversations. By Viktor GagnéBOUNCY BOUNCY is a messaging app that uses simple shapes to chat with your friends. The use of these shapes quickly gives the appearance of an abstract and funny conversation. The messages in the system come to life through interaction, allowing the user to personalize their messages with shape, color, and emotion. The elasticity and physical properties of the messages add a dynamic quality as they bounce off one another. As a result, the conversation becomes an abstract representation of shape and color, showcasing the messages history. By Julie TurinSOUNDS LIKE YOU SOUNDS LIKE YOU is a unique app that connects people through their shared love of music. Documentary film workshop with Guillaume Brac The 2022 documentary workshop was lead by Guillaume Brac. In partnership with the Lausanne Sport! ECAL film department proposed that I accompany ten second-year students on a documentary mandate financed by Lausanne Sport, the city s historic soccer club. Although I am interested in this sport, I was very clear from the start: it was not a question of making a film about soccer or the functioning of the club, but a film in which soccer would be the starting point, the spark, allowing me to go on to much more personal, intimate, singular elements. I insisted on the liberating power of the commission, at least when it is accompanied by a real freedom, which was the case here. I encouraged each student to find, if necessary to invent, the form, the device, the staging, that best corresponded to his or her sensitivity and subject. Documentary films offer to curious and adventurous filmmakers infinitely more possibilities in terms of film writing than fiction. And I believe that the films of this workshop, of an extreme diversity of forms, tones, and motifs, are a brilliant demonstration of this. Marine Maye – Mountain Flesh (Sound) The summer idyll is disturbed by recurring noises while a mountain village loses its foundations. Documentary / 18 min Synopsis Hikers pass by, while the village fountain gently sputters and the church bells ring out across the valley. But the idyll of summer is disturbed by recurring noises. Will the mountain come or not? As a mountain village loses its foundations, the crumbling becomes louder and louder. Student s comment Mountain Flesh is a short documentary by Valentina Sashivari that tells the story of a village in Graubünden threatened by the mountain that overlooks it. I carried out the entire sound production process for the short film. The main task was to work on the sounds taken during the shooting to create the sound identity of the film and particularly the specific sounds which translate the point of view of the rock. One of the challenges was to convey a world that is running to ruin without falling into tragedy – a very subtle threat that I worked on thanks to sound design and sound mixing. Marine Maye

Documentary / 18 min Synopsis Hikers pass by, while the village fountain gently sputters and the church bells ring out across the valley. But the idyll of summer is disturbed by recurring noises. Mathilde Rietsch – Glacier Memories Glacier Memories is a publication that deals with the impact of melting glaciers on the Swiss landscape. It is based on the premise that the perception of our environment is the result of a subjective construction mixing experience, memory and narration. The book is based on the model of the four poles of landscape perception developed by Swiss professor Norman Backhaus and brings together a plurality of views on glaciers. It addresses in particular questions of memory, loss and mourning in relation to the landscape. Making visible what cannot be physically observed, it leads readers to question their relationship with the environment, as well as the legacy of past societies and the one bequeathed to future generations.

Agnes Murmann – NOE – Silent Table The acoustics in a room have a large impact on our well-being. Restaurants often have to take measures to improve the acoustics. Noe is a table for restaurants that takes on this task. It absorbs sound through its structure. It is constructed similar to a boat to create a cavity in the table top. The Helmholtz effect comes into play during absorption – sound penetrates through the openings, resonates in the cavity and is converted into heat. This means that no porous materials need to be added and the table remains hygienic. The table is made entirely of wood, with a plywood table top and fine lamellas on the underside of the table. Workshops ECAL x Ferme des Tilleuls - Cinema and Photography,06–15.07.2022,Ferme des Tilleuls, Rue de Lausanne 52 1020 Renens ECAL x Ferme des Tilleuls: Workshop cinema « One shot » by Patrick Muroni & workshop Photography "Dialogue en images" by Margot Sparkes Workshop cinema « One shot » by Patrick Muroni Wednesday 6 July, Thursday 7 July and Friday 8 July from 1pm to 5.30pm Participants will be asked to think about a short film scene that tells the story of a character in less than a minute, and in a single sequence shot. After viewing a few scenes from different films and becoming familiar with the use of a camera, participants will be divided into small groups and will write a very short sequence, which they will direct and act out. Patrick Muroni is a Swiss film director who graduated from the Ba in Film Studies at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne. He won the artistic encouragement prize of the city of Renens during his studies. After his training, he directed "Un matin d été", his first self-produced short fiction film, which was selected in several festivals around the world. He then directed his second short film, "Les Sentinelles", which was also selected in several countries. "Ardente-x-s" is his first feature-length documentary film, scheduled for release in 2022. After an introduction to photography and some technical advice, participants will do a short research to define the "story" of their set of images, and make them. The photographs will then be printed and shown to the other participants, with a short explanation by each of them on their approach. Margot Sparkes (born in 1993 in Paris) is an independent artist, photographer and video maker who graduated from the ECAL/Ecole cantonale d art de Lausanne (2020). She lives and works in Lausanne. Her practice explores the way our environment shapes our behaviour and our feelings. Through video, photography and sculpture, she seeks to generate representations and perceptions that question our relationship to what surrounds us, deploying new imaginaries that interweave several forms of reality, existence and narratives. Recently, her diploma work At Night There is No Sun has been included in the collection of the FRAC Poitou-Charentes (France). Audience: 13 to 18 years old (max. 10 participants) What to bring: smartphone with working camera (compulsory!)
