A(r)table Project
A(r)table

Ambre Tuttle – A(r)table Eating used to be a basic need, but today aesthetics have never been so important at the table. As cooking evolves into art, let us turn our food into unique creations, ephemeral experiences and vectors of identity. A(r)table is a collection of objects that result from a search focused on visual impact and how we present our dishes. This project assumes that pleasure resides as much in the tasting as in the confection. The plate becomes an empty canvas for drawing, tracing and composing, calling for creativity. Paying attention to the appearance of our dishes may seem pointless, but it is the very origin of our desire to eat. The pleasure of tasting starts with our imagination, and sublimating our plates is also sublimating a moment.

The Images Vevey x ECAL Prize was created in 2021 and strengthens the collaboration between the two institutions. Its aim is to offer a first exhibition experience to a student graduating from the ECAL s Bachelor s or Master s degree in photography. The winning work is presented in the form of a monographic exhibition by Images Vevey on the occasion of its biennial or in its permanent space. In the Cinema of L Appartement, Augustin Lignier, graduated of ECAL s Master of Photography programme, presents Container, his graduation project, which won the Prix Images Vevey x ECAL 2022. The artist built a pristine white cube inside his bedroom and, every day for almost two months, he locked himself inside it. As he repetitively and obsessively triggered the shutter release, he put his body s limits to the test to experiment with the apparatus. This performative and conceptual approach resulted in Container, a project that questions the alienating relationship between a photographer and their camera.DATES AND SCHEDULE06.28–11.05.2023 2pm-6pm Wednesday-Sunday Free entryADDRESSL Appartement – Espace Images Vevey Gare CFF de Vevey Main hall (2nd floor)ARTISTOPENINGTuesday, June 28, 6pm

LA POSTE × ECAL Project
LA POSTE × ECAL

LA POSTE × ECAL For the Swiss Post Office, students from ECAL s Bachelor Graphic Design and Bachelor Media & Interaction Design are creating a postage stamp based on artificial intelligence. Thanks to augmented reality, Metascape transports Swiss Post users into an imaginary and poetic universe on the way to a destination that remains elusive. Strange, but not really foreign: that s the unsettling impression given by the design of this special stamp called "Metascape". Using augmented reality technology, this creation, made up of elements that are both familiar and surreal, immerses us in a fantastic world shaped by artificial intelligence. An Instagram filter lets you access the virtual journey simply by scanning the QR code on this exclusive postage stamp. With "Destination" as its theme, this collaboration between ECAL students and Swiss Post initially gave rise to fourteen concepts created through group work. After a pre-selection of five works by a jury made up of members of ECAL, Swiss Post and the Stamp Commission, the "Metascape" project was chosen to move from imagination to reality. Discover below the other pre-selected projects. What s next ?A destination is basically a journey from point A to point B. But what happens during this elapsed time? The idea is to illustrate an epic with a board that would be a pawn s playground. We follow this character as he discovers an unsuspected universe through each environment he crosses, with the aim of satisfying his thirst for discovery of the world. Through the accumulation of collected memories, the character blossoms, constantly searching for his next destination. The filter allows you to move around a deconstructed game board. From one square to the next, we discover a different world in which fictional elements interact and transform. Par , , L envolThe stamp s illustrative visual identity symbolizes the notion of travel, exchange and sharing. Both the stamp and the animation poetically illustrate the notion of travel. The bird takes us into a naïve narrative world. As it travels, it transforms to symbolize the notion of connection and exchange. Par , , Métamorphose“Métamorphose” is an augmented reality project that provides both an artistic and scientific perspective, guiding you from the lowest point to the highest point in Switzerland. Frontiere di Sabbia - DRONE WORKSHOP Project
Frontiere di Sabbia - DRONE WORKSHOP

Frontiere di Sabbia - DRONE WORKSHOP "Frontiere di Sabbia" is an exhibition of the students of the Master of Photography at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne, in collaboration with the Biennale dell Immagine di Chiasso. The collection of projects you will see has been created with drones: aircraft originally developed for warfare that have been transformed into civilian and popular forms. In just a few years, these devices have undergone a dizzying technological evolution and achieved considerable commercial success. Used for a variety of purposes - recreational and professional, political and subversive - these “unmanned aerial vehi- cles” can be easily purchased and controlled remotely, like in a video game. The opportunities offered by civilian drones combine with multiple negative con- sequences: the confusion between reality and simu- lation, privacy violations, and the use for illegal and violent actions. From a photographic perspective, drones offer infinite viewpoints for exceptional, vertical, and total vision. Equipped with all-round sensors, they fly autonomou- sly on programmed routes and are able to monitor the territory and its inhabitants. The “Frontiere di Sabbia” exhibition, presented in the Ex Saceba building, a ce- ment factory located a few kilometers from the bor- der, recalls the past of these places where materials were produced to build houses, bridges, and highways, but also walls and barriers. By diverting from prede- termined and automated paths, a new generation of image creators questions us about our perception of our limits: human, political, and technological.

Unpacking Tschichold’s Library Event
Unpacking Tschichold’s Library

Unpacking Tschichold s Library,27.04–26.05.2023,Gallery l elac, ECAL From April 27 to May 26, ECAL presents Unpacking Tschichold s Library at gallery l elac. An exhibition in the form of a library presenting the books mentinoned in Jan Tschichold s seminal publication The New Typography (1928). Opening on Wednesday, April 26. Jan Tschichold s “The New Typography” is a critical essay and an operative handbook that paved the way to modern graphic design. It is a game-changing book that still attracts the interest and curiosity of design historians and practitioners after almost a century since its publication in 1928. Yet, it is simultaneously a victim of its own success, and it has to deal with the consequences associated with canonisation. Having reached an almost mythical status, the publication is often taken for granted and rarely questioned or closely scrutinized. This paradox was the starting point of the research project “The Sources of Jan Tschichold s ‘The New Typography ”. Conducted at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne and supported by the Strategic fund of HES-SO, the project reconstructed, collected and contextualized the body of bibliographical sources included in “The New Typography”. On the occasion of the opening on Wednesday, April 26, the conference "Jan Tschichold s "The New Typography": Its Roots and Impact on National Scenes" will be held at ECAL from 9:15 to 18:00. Jan Tschichold’s The New Typography: Its Roots and Impact on National Scenes

Jan Tschichold s The New Typography: Its Roots and Impact on National Scenes,26.04.2023,IKEA Auditorium, ECAL On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, ECAL welcomes scholars from the fields of art and design history and print culture for an international conference aiming to provide a better understanding of the cultural context of Jan Tschichold s book and the typographic movement that emerged from it. Jan Tschichold s essay Die neue Typographie (The New Typography, 1928) is a game-changing book, acclaimed as the curtain raiser of modern graphic design. While it takes the form of a critical essay and an operative manual, its sources have been understudied because of their difficult identification. Yet, The New Typography is simultaneously a victim of its own success and it has to deal with the consequences associated with canonisation. Having reached an almost mythical status, The New Typography is often taken for granted and rarely questioned or closely scrutinized. This paradox was the starting point of the research project “The Sources of Jan Tschichold s The New Typography”. Conducted at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (HES-SO) and supported by the Strategic fund of HES-SO, the project reconstructed, collected and contextualized the body of bibliographical sources included in The New Typography. This international conference invites scholars in the field of art and design history and print culture to present their research. The conference aims to provide a better understanding of the larger cultural context of Tschichold s book and the typographic movement that stemmed from it. The results of the project will be presented at the conference along with keynote lectures by Dr Paul Stirton, Professor emeritus at Bard Graduate Center, New York, Dr Christopher Burke, Principal Research Fellow at University of Reading, and Dr Julia Meer, Curator of the poster and graphics collection, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. The New Final Form Project
The New Final Form

The New Final Form The New Final Form is the result of a cross-disciplinary workshop run by the 1st year students in the Product Design Master s programme. Working with Ceramaret, a company based in Bôle that specialises in new ceramic manufacturing processes, the students imagined today s electrical sockets and switches. Our daily habits and our relationship with these devices have changed considerably over the last few decades, particularly with the battery-powered appliances that surround us. Thanks to the development of new technologies and new manufacturing processes, and to the properties of ceramics: good resistance to heat and pressure, and very good electrical insulation, the students came up with a series of original proposals rethinking the Feller electrical socket of today, an icon of Swiss design established by Max Bill in 1946.

ECAL AT VISIONS DU REEL: Masterclass and films Event
ECAL AT VISIONS DU REEL: Masterclass and films

ECAL AT VISIONS DU REEL: Masterclass and films,21–30.04.2023,Théâtre de Marens, Nyon As part of the film festival Visions du Réel (April 21 to 30) in Nyon, Lucrecia Martel will give a masterclass on Tuesday, April 25, organized in partnership with La Cinémathèque suisse. Four films from ECAL Cinema Department students and alumni will also be part of the programmation. MASTERCLASS: LUCRECIA MARTEL Filmmaker and screenwriter Salta, Argentina Tuesday, April 25, 2pm Usine à Gaz 2, Nyon Visions du Réel s guest of honour Lucrecia Martel will give a masterclass, which will explore her body of work and her relationship with reality. A retrospective of her films will also be presented during the edition. Lucrecia Martel gained international fame with her first feature length film La ciénaga (2001), shot in her home region, and has since embodied the resurgence of Argentinian film, both nationally and internationally. The director s filmography, which consists of 4 feature length films and 25 titles in total (including different kinds of projects), has constantly made a mark on her country in a post-dictatorial context, as well as at the most prestigious festivals. Lucrecia Martel s films use a highly sensual cinematographical grammar to examine the existential crisis of the Argentinian middle classes, the inner workings of society and the country s suffocating social mechanism, as well as post-colonial issues. She achieves all this while relentlessly evoking, implicitly, the history of her country and the ghosts that inhabit it. Her attention to detail – particularly to sound, noise and dialogues – and the kaleidoscopic approach of her work are in keeping with a dual tradition that is both oral and adventurous in cinematographical terms, steeped in a joyous cinephilia. Rooted in the filmmaker s very familiar territories and experiences, Lucrecia Martel s body of work borrows from a multitude of genres and offers a rich and fascinating hybridisation of fiction and reality. After Terminal Norte in 2021, she is currently working on new non-fiction feature length film that should be released in 2023. Moderated by Emilie Bujès, artistic director of Visions du Réel and Paolo Moretti, head of ECAL Cinema Department. ECAL Lecture - Brian Roettinger

ECAL Lecture - Brian Roettinger,05.04.2023,Cinema Studio, ECAL Present during the spring semester as part of his ECAL residency at La Becque, designer Brian Roettinger will discuss his practice and his many projects of international scope through an audiovisual and immersive approach on Wednesday, April 5 at 6pm. As a partners at Perron–Roettinger, designer Brian Roettinger has worked on creative projects with some of the world s biggest brands and musicians. Roettinger s work is an uncanny union of punk ideology with a conceptually driven mode of modernist design. He frequently employs architectural strategies such as repetition and structure, while subverting this sense of order by manipulating the production process in unexpected or “wrong” ways (think pulling the sheet out of the printer before it is done). He continues to work with a wide variety of artists and brands (Jay-Z, Florence + The Machine, Mark Ronson, SKKN by Kim, Cartier, ...) taking an holistic approach to the design process from idea to completion. His work is diverse spanning album packaging, publications, branding, campaigns, and product design. He has been nominated for numerous awards included three Art Direction Grammy s for album packaging.

Dialogue

Dialogue As part of the publishing course taught by Gilles Gavillet and Jonathan Hares, the 3rd year students worked on the layout of dialogue. They began by selecting a dialogue that had potential for visual creation. After identifying the graphic challenges of their subject, they defined an editorial solution. Justiciable.net Edition This project highlights a case of corruption and harassment suffered by Franck Blanchard, a police major, within his police station in Aubenas, Ardèche. The newspaper recounts the victim s story, as well as the stages of the investigation and presents various damning evidence against several of his superiors. By Romain Oederlin A way to be reunited A way to be reunited is an editorial project putting in dialogue the universe and the musical, scientific and geographical references of two djs (Marcel Dettmann and Dj Stingray). By Benoît Rochat7-10 Figo Newspaper 7-10 Figo traces the biggest football transfer of the 2000s. This event takes the form of a newspaper with a double print. With a contemporary look, this project graphically materializes the snake s knot that governed this transfer, composed of political and financial stakes... as well as the violence of the fans of the clubs involved. By Antonin MaudryThe Pathmark Shooting of Old Bridge Edition This book recounts the events of the August 31, 2012 shooting at the Pathmark supermarket in Old Bridge, New Jersey. Through the numerous calls made to 911, the edition questions the trivialization of gun violence in the United States by confronting the reader with the panic of the witnesses, staged as a play. by Tessa Roy

Dialogue Project

1968 Now Live, When Politic Became TV Show Edition In the summer of 1968, the American network ABC invited two great intellectual and political figures, William Buckley and Gore Vidal, to debate the presidential election of that year. Without knowing it, it would become the channel with the lowest ratings, the one that changed the future of television debates. 1968 Now Live transcribes the 11 episodes that made up this virulent debate in the manner of a play script. Punctuated by notebooks in which the flow of images from popular culture mingles with political images, the object gives form to this moment when politics became a television show. By Alexis Gargaloni A Conversation about glacial decoy Edition Through a conversation between Trisha Brown and Yvonne Rainer, this edition presents a visual interpretation of the dance piece Glacial Decoy, created in 1979 by choreographer Trisha Brown. The images are taken from the performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in May 2009 and the excerpt lasts 1 minute and 47 seconds. In the background of the piece, large black and white images are projected, signed Rauschengerg. Four of them are always visible, moving every 30 seconds to the right. These images of heterogeneous objects and landscapes seem to belong to the same fading world. By Correspondance Edition Correspondence is a re-edition of part of the book Correspondence (1944-1959): Albert Camus / Maria Casarès. The edition gathers several letters that Albert Camus and Maria Casarès exchanged during the years 1944 to 1948. Behind each of the letters are parts of the diaries corresponding to the day they were written. The Japanese binding allows a double reading of these letters; that of the love of the two lovers and that of the historical context at that time. By Soup and Sun flowers: the urgent but delicate art of awakening consciences Edition Soup and Sunflowers emerges from the recent actions of climate activists Just stop Oil within museum institutions. It takes the form of a hybrid catalogue, which presents these different actions of civil disobedience, such as happenings, performances, or other pictorial acts of canvas destruction, already curated and presented in the museum. What is art? How can the museum elevate the debate around the climate emergency? By Agathe BourréeThe Chicago Boys Newspaper A newspaper about a group of Chilean economists trained at the University of Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s who were called the Chicago Boys. They applied Milton Friedman s free market theories to Chile after the military coup of 1973. Their neo-liberal economic policies had a significant impact on the Chilean economy and society, but have also been criticised for their social and economic consequences. Their legacy is controversial and continues to be studied today. By Hugo JauffretPrairie s Tale Edition Navigating between different programmes, the digital painting illustrates the tale Prairie s Tale written by the artist Thilda Bourqui. In it we follow the adventure of the princess Prairie who, in disagreement with the patriarchal values of the castle, will find a new way of life in the forest and in the more-than-human world. Service Design - 2023 Project
Service Design - 2023

Service Design - 2023 During the service design course, the 3rd year of the Graphic Design, Photography and Media & Interaction Design bachelor s degree programs realized multi-media projects. A collaboration of the Visual Communication department with the theme of SDGs (*Sustainable Development Goals). The theme named "For a good cause, make the SDGS a reality" aims to develop a cause close to the heart of the different student groups. Each project is composed of at least two different supports, one primary and one secondary. The projects could therefore take any form the students deemed relevant, be it a website, editions and posters, a video sequence, or even virtual reality. The SDGs are to be achieved worldwide and by all UN member states by 2030. This means that all states must play an equal role in finding common solutions to the world s pressing challenges. Switzerland is also required to implement the objectives at national level. In addition, incentives must be created to encourage non-governmental players to make an increasingly active contribution to sustainable development. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with their 169 targets, form the core of the Agenda 2030. They reconcile the economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainable development and, for the first time, place the fight against poverty and sustainable development on the same agenda.Sex on the Lake Edition & video Sex On The Lake is a playful, popular science book. In the form of an illustrated story, the book presents all the players involved in the feminization of fish and explains their respective responsibilities. This serious phenomenon is not yet widely publicized. Our case study, the disappearance of river trout from Lake Leman, deals with the subject in a precise way, to reach a wider audience. Today s wastewater treatment plants do not filter chemical waste. This waste, these micropollutants, ends up in the water, threatening the biodiversity of aquatic environments. A short video to poetically raise awareness of the feminization of fish. In contrast to the book, the impact of the various players is dealt with in flashback. The video takes the point of view of the fish, so that the viewer is touched by the problem. The colors, formal aspects and titling are consistent with the book. By , & Pour mieux vivre ensemble Edition & video/teaser Pour mieux vivre ensemble is a project aimed at promoting sustainable neighborhoods. The aim of this edition is to summarize and popularize the concept of eco-neighborhoods, based on concrete examples of structures already established in Switzerland. Its main objective is to promote the emergence, realization and understanding of these living spaces which, in response to the current global crisis, seem to represent a most interesting solution. By Laeticia Jakob , Julien Caulet , Ilaria Citti ile verte Edition & website New housing is being built all the time to meet growing demand. However, the Ile verte project questions the place of plants in urban environments. Its aim is to raise public awareness of the many benefits it brings to the environment around our homes. With sustainability and ecology in mind, we looked at ways of revitalizing existing areas. In a carefully crafted edition, combining individual testimonials, informative texts and photographic images, we present the project from an entertaining angle. In this way, we give readers the opportunity to construct their own images, thanks to a subtle play on transparency. As for our website, which serves as a second medium, it reveals the major themes addressed in our edition. By Tony Altermatt , Jeanne Weber , Romain OederlinOutburst Fanzine & Website Despite recent waves of feminism, ordinary sexism is still trivialized and invisible in privileged circles. It was against this backdrop that OUTBURST n°1 was born, the first in a series of leaflets designed to provide information on discrimination against women in the workplace. In the form of a malleable, playful brochure, this project allows for rapid distribution, while being easily reproducible, in order to make information accessible to the new generation. The brochure is designed to offer several levels of reading, including testimonials, articles and real-life situations, to better grasp the issues at stake in this crucial subject. As a second support, an interactive web experience offers an overview of the brochure s content, enabling direct promotion of the project via an online medium. By ,  & VIF Website & Instagram It s not uncommon for students to put aside sports or other physical activities in favor of their studies. Unfortunately, this trend has a negative impact on their physical and mental well-being, leading to a loss of motivation. This is where the VIF platform comes into its own. Its aim is to inform the residents of Lausanne about the different places offering a variety of physical activities adapted to each individual. Whether you prefer to practice a sport alone, in a duo, find a team or even join a club for the more determined, VIF guides you towards the best options. What s more, in order to fully convince you, VIF makes it its duty to find the most affordable offers for even the tightest budgets. If you hold a HES student card or are a 3rd year gymnasium student in Switzerland, or if you belong to the HES-UNIL-EPFL community, the CHUV, the SIFO, the CIO, or the BCV, this platform is specially designed for you. By , , Petit manifeste de l information Book, Video & poster Recent events remind us of the importance of having access to reliable, verified, quality infomartion. Censorship, conspiracy theories and the issues raised by new platforms are all challenges for today s journalists. Through this project, we aim to raise awareness of journalistic professions and their importance in our societies. By synthesizing UNESCO s "Manual for Journalism Education and Training", we are making it accessible in a small pocket book for the general public. The project is visually guided by a bubble, a metaphor for the magnifying glass and investigation. The bubble makes the guide fun, gives it a sense of identity and creates a link between digital and printed media. By ,  & The Legal Clock Journal & teaser The project aims to address the harmful consequences of a lack of free and informed access to sexual, reproductive and family health. We focus here on the obstacles encountered during the abortion process. In some cases, these lead to the use of unsafe methods of termination, which can have serious consequences for both physical and mental health, including death. In "The Legal Clock", we take stock of the different situations in Europe from a geographical point of view, and present the different abortion methods available. With the aim of informing and demystifying the way procedures are carried out, we also present testimonials from people who have had a safe, clandestine abortion, and from those who have not been able to access an abortion. By , & NEO Website & posters The project, in the form of a website, retraces the path of pesticides, whose presence spreads throughout the pollination process. From its first use on plants, to its consumption in the form of honey, the journey takes visual form in a series of photos, somewhere between docu-fiction and archive. It is accompanied by a narrative text, facts and the consequences for the environment and living beings at each stage. By , & ≥92 Edition & video The edition uses contextual elements such as statistics, articles and other documents to provide a context for nuclear energy consumption and its implications and risks. Following this, a final section presents elements of semiotics related to the management of nuclear waste. In this way, the reader acquires the necessary tools to understand the consequences of nuclear consumption. The video serves as a teaser for the edition, taking certain elements and codes present in the book and representing them in a dystopian future, in order to materialize this temporal distance that may seem abstract. By ,  & CORAL VIRUS Edition & instagram BLUE is a quarterly magazine that aims to raise readers awareness of the threats facing aquatic ecosystems, oceans, rivers and their inhabitants. It is aimed at people who are sensitive to environmental issues, eager to discover and learn about contemporary problems and solutions linked to water preservation. The very first issue of this publication, entitled "Coral Virus", looks at the phenomenon of coral bleaching and the slow disappearance of corals worldwide. The magazine s mission is to inform readers about the causes and consequences of this phenomenon, while presenting current solutions. In addition to raising awareness of our individual responsibilities, this issue aims to challenge and re-evaluate our perception of corals and their preservation. It also features interviews with enthusiasts of the subject, as well as with a renowned researcher from the University of Lausanne. BLUE magazine has an Instagram account, under the name blue.magazine.ch, which aims to be an interactive, dynamic and proactive space in its publications. We regularly share news about the aquatic world and relay the work of organizations committed to protecting water resources. By Arthur Lucchesi , Eloïse Genoud , Yan Miranda

Le livre d’artiste - 22-23 Project
Le livre d’artiste - 22-23

Le livre d artiste - 22-23 As part of the publishing course led by Anouk Schneider and Chi-Long Trieu, 2nd year Visual Communication students had the opportunity to design an artist s book during the first semester. This book project stands out for its contemporary approach aimed at creating an editorial object that harmoniously integrates form and content in the current context of the editorial landscape. Students were encouraged to exploit their artistic freedom at all levels of creation, whether in terms of format, choice of paper, binding, layout, illustrations, text or typography. As part of this course, the artist s book can take shape through various illustration modalities, such as photography, reproduction, contextualization, drawing, 3D, etc. The emphasis is on the author s artistic vision and the means implemented to realize it. Students take on multiple roles as editor, curator and architect, covering the responsibilities of artistic director, designer, photographer, stylist, illustrator, typographer, editor-in-chief, and editorial secretary. This course highlights contemporary editorial design by exploring the narrative potential of a sequence of controlled content. Wonderbread Project
Wonderbread

Wonderbread Within the Wonderbread workshop led by Francesca Sarti, food designer and founder of Arabeschi di Latte, BA Industrial Design students explored history, traditions, rituals, and recipes related to bread, in order to imagine new unique signature bread. Bread tells our story, the leavening cycle of our life. Bread is certainly not a novelty about humanity, but it is the basic and primary testimony of the relationship that humankind has with the earth and with what he eats (through the agricultural evolution). The first form of bread dates back to prehistoric times, it was a flat cracker made with cattail rhizome. A 2000-year-old loaf of bread, black as lava, was found in Pompeii ruins. White or black, holy or devil, leavened and unleavened, flat or puff, fresh or dry….Each bread is a unique story. This involves either the way it is prepared, shaped, colored, made from unexpected ingredients, transformed or recycled, filled or combined with other raw materials. During the workshop, original dishes with bread as a central element were developed and finally served and shared at a common meal. We would like to thank Le pain des frouzes  and Jonathan Vallin aka Baolin, Chef Antonio de Luca and the Eldora team.

Feed Filler - artgenève 2023,26–29.01.2023,Palexpo, Geneva From January 26 to 29, as part of artgenève 2023, Bachelor Fine Arts graduates will present Feed Filler, an installation by the artist Miriam Laura Leonardi. As for music, Bachelor Fine Arts students will be part of the artgenève/musique program. FEED FILLER An in-situ installation where the art market economy becomes the backdrop for works freshly created by Bachelor Fine Arts graduates. A project proposed by Miriam Laura Leonardi. The enlarged manual of a modern art gallery serves as a backdrop for videos, works on paper and sculptural contributions by seven emerging and established artists. While their works are united by the way they step away from reality to conceptualize the illusory worlds that are foreign to us, the gallery-goers "du jour" wear tracksuits that convey a comforting message to the overwhelming crowd of visitors in search of meaning. Graduates: Charly Mirambeau, Gina Proenza, Christian Schulz, Virginie Sistek, Romane de Watteville, Maria Esteves, Kelly Tissot. ARTGENÈVE/MUSIQUE: THE TUNING CEREMONY In the heart of the Music Chamber, a curated space that gathers artworks and sound performances, Bachelor Fine Arts students in collaboration with the Ensemble Contrechamps present an exhibition driven by sound, the pieces positioned around a "tuning ceremony". This game of call and response between the works and the direct, recorded, electronic or analogical sound, extends the exhibition towards a polyphonic quest that unfolds at different moments of the day. Students: Anna Cocimarov, Caroline Bischoff, Camille Dudan, Axel Mattart, Emma Blanc-Germser, Julie Wuhrmann, Romain Rochat, Achille Meier, Tom Grbic, Marsaili Venus Haas.

Much Faster, Much Slower Project
Much Faster, Much Slower

Much Faster, Much Slower Second year Interaction Design students developped a messaging app centered around the theme of “Much Faster / Much Slower”. The goal is to create a unique mobile messaging app that offers a distinctive experience compared to existing instant messaging apps. The project explores the impact of technology on our relationship with speed and communication. It focuses on how advancements in technologies have shaped our experiences and preferences for speed. The project also looks at the role of instant messaging apps in changing the way we communicate and interact, taking up a significant amount of our daily engagement time. The goal is to translate this fascination with speed and slowness into innovative interaction design concepts related to communication. NOMAD NOMAD aims to elevate conversations with loved ones, creating a sense of special and unique moments where both parties feel truly connected. This is achieved through key features such as appointment management, live streaming during chats, and a typewriter tool that adds a natural flow to the conversation. By combining space and time into one platform, NOMAD elevates the essence of meaningful conversations. By Viktor GagnéBOUNCY BOUNCY is a messaging app that uses simple shapes to chat with your friends. The use of these shapes quickly gives the appearance of an abstract and funny conversation. The messages in the system come to life through interaction, allowing the user to personalize their messages with shape, color, and emotion. The elasticity and physical properties of the messages add a dynamic quality as they bounce off one another. As a result, the conversation becomes an abstract representation of shape and color, showcasing the messages history. By Julie TurinSOUNDS LIKE YOU SOUNDS LIKE YOU is a unique app that connects people through their shared love of music. The app assigns a color-coded genre to each user and offers a built-in radio and database to personalize the listening experience. To start a conversation, users answer 10 questions based on their musical data, unlocking the ability to chat freely with others. By Jérémie KursnerSCRABBLES SCRABBLES is a messaging app that adds a fun twist to communication. Users send messages by playing games like Pictionary, Tic Tac Toe, Battleship, and Heads or Tails. In Scrabbles, users can play simultaneous games or send challenges to friends. This creates a playful and entertaining way to communicate, reminiscent of classic paper games. Whether looking for a fun distraction or a unique messaging experience, Scrabble offers a creative and enjoyable way to connect with friends. By Ayten Gönel

THE SECRET LIFE OF OBJECTS Project
THE SECRET LIFE OF OBJECTS

THE SECRET LIFE OF OBJECTS During the 2nd year Bachelor of Graphic Design visual identity course, students had to choose an object allowing them to perform an action and then bypass its basic function. Following this, the students created a fictitious company or a creator behind this object allowing them to develop a visual identity concept as well as define the recurring elements of the identity in order to establish a modular graphic system that can be applied to a multitude of different media, fixed and animated. FUTURE IS BELOW Edition & Poster The exhibition Future Is Below was born from the collaboration of four artists around a single object: the jigsaw blade. Each artist was free to choose how he or she would use it, leaving an almost unlimited space of possibility. The origin of the exhibition embodies a way of thinking about the underlying themes of ecology and the consequences of the mass of waste produced today by human beings through an object of manufacture. Is a future possible thanks to recovery? By Master Laser Edition, Animation & Poster Fictitious visual identity for the company Master. It is a company specialized in the sale of high-end precision lasers. It offers a wide range of products adapted to all levels of use, whether for amateurs or professionals. The identity is symbolized by a variable font, which perfectly represents the extent of Master s skills. The two axes of the typography are also significant: they represent the precision and the robustness of the proposed lasers. By 10 – 4 Edition, Animation & Poster Why work from 9 to 5 when you can work from 10 to 4? That s the mantra of ten to four, a brand of accessories made from office objects that advocates non-productivity at work. The edition is presented as a guide to mastering the art of procrastination and can be read during lunch break or on the subway, before work, as a preamble to the day ahead. By Mineral grinding engineering Edition, Animation & Poster Mineral Grinding Engineering is a fictional company. It manufactures machines to grind the hardest minerals on the planet in order to make objects useful to people s daily lives. With this project, I tell the story of the realization and use of the PM-23 machine by the company s scientists through the creation of a visual identity. The work is oriented towards a scientific visual, with images of the study, archives, data, diagrams and elements that tell the story of the research. By Clay Edition, Animation & Poster Clay is a project based on the concept of DIY and conservation through skin care masks. Clay is a creator of homemade cosmetics that promotes sustainability, authenticity, less is more and independence. By KAOS-3 Poster & Animation The KAOS-3 space is located underground: it is a club for those who want a loud, mathematically confusing, fluid, dirty experience. The identity project wants to look at the main tools for creating the performances offered in the club: the Korg Kaossilators (KO-1), that is, dynamic phrase synthesizers, which produce a different sound or note every time you touch the pad with a finger. The visual identity of the KAOS-3 club explores music, sound, visuals and modularity through a code that recreates random images through the use of synthesizer touch screens combined with sound. By

So how can we live better Project
So how can we live better

So how can we live better Beyond questions of functionality, comfort and individual or collective well-being, the built environment is able to respond in a stimulating way to societal, energy and environmental challenges. The work space, the living space, the public space, the interior space, the street, are carried by real statements of intent that motivate their forms, following certain principles such as climate transition, densification, ecology and energy transition.... The 2nd year Graphic Design students worked on the production of a communication based on one of these principles (or others) and on the architectural realization which refers to it in order to promote it. A ZANG MEYONG Edition Through this object, my mother was able to transmit to me the complexity of memories as an immigrant in a country that is not her own. With the help of archival photos, archival texts, and her actual words translating letters received from my grandfather, I immersed myself in the transmission of memories between my grandfather, my mother, and me, using her memories as a pivot of transmission between the past and the future. By Midi Minuit Edition & Animation The goal of the project is to tell a story through my filmed experiences and my thoughts written on paper, recomposed to tell a personal story of a woman who dares to appropriate the urban space, despite the innate fear she feels within herself. The visual part and the writing complement each other, the filmed part being an immersion in her skin, where the viewer travels the city through her point of view. The editing acts as subtitles to the video. It reflects her thoughts, feelings and interactions, the poetry of moments of solitude, of contemplation through the act of strolling. By DSE Edition DSE is a book about prisons, one of the most controversial environments in our justice system. They are supposed to be places where criminals are punished and rehabilitated, but they are often criticized for their overcrowding, lack of resources, and inhumane conditions of confinement. By VELVET FLOWERS Edition Velvet flowers questions the different feelings that abandoned places can evoke. When reading the work, a nostalgia settles in, then it s the turn of anxiety and uneasiness. We can feel different traces and imprints left by entities, human or not. The experience is transcribed through silver photographs, pages of dense texts and fragments of the place. The feeling of déjà vu submits us to a question of temporality that cannot be defied and questions the fact that we are never in the right traces. By SITTERWERK CATALOGUE Edition Umberto Eco said: "The most important function of a library is to help the reader discover books that he or she did not know existed and that turn out to be of great importance to him or her. In the Sitterwerk library in St. Gallen, books are put down as they please and temporary collections are created. Sometimes unrelated books are placed together on the same shelf. By eliminating all classifications, we leave room for the unexpected. Searching for a particular book is no longer the main objective, it is the experience of the place that takes precedence. This object follows a reflection around the book, taking as subjects of experiment a selection of 100 publications with as criterion of selection their format which must be between an A4 and an A3. The books were taken from the catalog of the Sitterwerk library. By

Summer University Finland — ECAL toys with ARTEK

Summer University Finland — ECAL toys with ARTEK Teaming up with iconic Finnish furniture company Artek, Bachelor Industrial Design students, under the guidance of designer Julie Richoz, present a collection of playful objects for children made from salvaged b-quality, rejected and half- finished materials and offcuts. Staying true to the spirit of Artek and its founders, the products promote conscious manufacturing and seek to highlight the natural materials that have gone into producing these designs. The resulting collection made of up-cycled components features a modernist inspired dolls house, a convenient wagon to move toys and other things around, quirky plush toys in the form of fish and sea creatures, a minimalist sledge to enjoy the snowy Lapland winter, a hanging ladder to reach for the stars, mesmerising marble mazes, a tiny theatre for a spontaneous play with your best friends, and a handy clothes rack to help tidy up your children s room after a busy day – to name just a few.During our journey in Finland, students were able to visit multiple manufacturers, craftsmen, designers and cultural landmarks such as: Fiskars scissors factory, Artek main wooded furniture factory, Iittala glassblowing plant, up and coming Vaarnii founder, and several historical buildings from famous architect and designer Alvar Aalto, including his house and studio, to name only a few. In partnership with the iconic finish design brand Artek and the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale, the students discovered the bountiful nature that inspires and nurtures Finnish industry and craftsmanship, one of the pillars of contemporary Scandinavian design. This project was made possible with the kind support of the Summer University programme of the Board of Higher Education (DGES) – State of Vaud.RELATED EVENTS

Willy Guhl - Thinking with Your Hands,09.12.2022–26.03.2023,Museum für Gestaltung Zürich From December 9, 2022 to March 26, 2023, Bachelor Industrial Design students will take part in the exhibition Willy Guhl - Thinking with Your Hands at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich, which invites the pulbic to rediscover the creations of the famous Swiss designer. A true icon of Swiss design, Willy Guhl and his teaching methods have left their mark on generations of designers. The exhibition Willy Guhl - Thinking with your hands offers a rediscovery of his global creation through a practice-oriented approach. Students in Willy Guhl s class regularly designed toys to be sold at the school s bazaar. Puzzles, figurines or games of skill were made in the school s wood workshops. The future designers thus followed a process that went from concept to design, including the realization and packaging of the product. This approach is also fundamental to Bachelor Industrial Design program at ECAL. In collaboration with the museum and under the direction of the designer Adrien Rovero, the students in their second semester developed wooden games that encourage to think with the hands and to physically experience Guhl s aesthetic thinking.DATE AND SCHEDULEDecember 9, 2022 - March 26, 2023 Tuesday - Sunday: 10am to 5pm Thursday: 10am to 8pmOPENINGThursday, December 8, 2022, 7pmVENUEMuseum für Gestaltung Ausstellungsstrasse 60, 8005 Zürich museum-gestaltung.chSTUDENTS, , , UNDER THE DIRECTION OFHEAD OF PROGRAMMEASSISTANTS,
